Title: NAR AI Wars v1 (Signups closed)
Post by: Naryar on March 18, 2010, 11:21:18 AM
Introducing - the first NAR AI tournament !

Signups started - you might now send NAR AI bots to me

-12 entries plus me
-All entrants will fight each other, like in Battle of the Band (aka 11 or more)
-0 point if you lose, 1 point if you get a WBP/OOTA/immobilization, 2 points if you get a KO. Bots will be classified by points and the bot will more points will be the champion (absolutely not obvious :P)
-Building rules : As in NAR AI (realistic) BFE allowed but under heavy restrictions
-No AAM and cheatbot2 -aka hovercrafts- (apart from smartzones providing)
-Winner gets all tournament entries before all others. Might threw in a few more NAR AI goodies as well
-Bots (or combined weight of multibots) must be 795.0 kg minimum and 800.0 maximum
-No ballasts
-Bots MUST have one Weapon component that deals damage (no loopholing this by having a typhoon spike inside your chassis even if it's a weapon)
-No SFTW's, horrible builds or all around failbots. As they will be in NAR AI, i will ask for decent fighters at least.
-Please AI your bots, if you REALLY can't do it i will but i don't want some BAWWWing because your bot loses AI.
-If the match is clearly influenced by havoks, then the havok-inducing bot loses
-They will be community-voted awards : Most Original Robot, Best Build, Deadliest Robot, Coolest Bot, Most Entertaining Robot.
-All .py's and bindings allowed unless they enhance the stats of the bot in some way.

For the first tournament, here are the special rules:

-NAR AI Mod v2.5 HWs (Multibots allowed, both must weight 800.0 kg or less without smartzones)
-Bots will be in NAR AI v3, 2 teams
-Arena is DSL tournament arena with hazards on
-Signups will start April 20th (NOW) and will end when i will get my entries
-After you send me something legal, i will give you feedback and suggestions to make it better. You might send any number of rebuilds and AI changes, or might ignore my advice - it's up to you really
-Flamethrowers allowed (even on flails)
-NO Mobility components allowed for moving weapons (aka no spinners, flippers, popups, pokers, etc) Static or non-powered flailing weapons ONLY. Only motors allowed are the skirt hinge and metal hinge
-Robots must show controlled movement and must be able to move towards the opponent.
-No crawlers either.
-If two SnS fight each other they will use FBS.py.
-You might use flailing weapons on your robot, but not more than 6 axles used for flails (see the havok rule)
-You can send me skins of existing components for your bots.

Yes, i am being strict, but this is a test of how well can you build with static weapons, and mostly aimed at SnS and rammers as well.

Looks interesting, Nar.
You might expound on the 'BFE' limitations, cause that is a giant 'can of worms'...
If I can somehow help, let me know.

Yes, no fail bots.

And yes LLB, no use of any Mobility component for weapons.

Stag isn't a troll.

Half his posts are trying to provoke other members, mainly sparky (Who hasn't done anything to upset him btw.).

It's equatable to me attacking you personally every 2 posts.

One I know that might easily win this is 123's flail SnS. Unless that is havok-prone, but it doesn't havok when I test with it. D:

Post by: The Ounce on March 18, 2010, 09:14:26 PM
It wouldn't be legal though since the [bullsh**] rules state that a bot cannot have more than six axles for flails.
Title: Re: NAR AI Wars v1
Post by: JoeBlo on March 18, 2010, 09:22:27 PM
the way I see it ... we are building a community NarAI team(s) but they will fight each other and be filmed

hence all the specific restrictions

Title: Re: NAR AI Wars v1
Post by: JoeBlo on March 18, 2010, 09:42:02 PM
I guess so but I dont dare use flail ones since there is no lead-way for havoks

Hmm... flamethrowers huh ? Yes, i think i can accept them, since they generally make for more exciting fights.

Oh, and do you guys think skirt hinge, metal hinge, and axle wedges should be banned as well ?

Nah, too hard to define what a 'wedge' is.  For example, Final Destiny/Biohazard-style skirts--wedge?  Or not a wedge?  What about if they're only on the sides?

You can't just say skirt hinge, metal hinge, and axle wedges are banned--you'll have to make specific criteria for what constitutes a wedge.

OK, i am accepting wedges and flamethrowers.

Instead of holding a pointless tourney, in which basically anyone with a brain will enter an SnS with FBS.py, why not just ask for two teams for Nar v2.3? After all, how is it even a real and competitive tourney if a) there can only be extremely little variation in bot types at absolute most, b) you basically will end up telling us how to mold the bots to fit what you deem to be acceptable, or c) the whole point isn't to even have a tourney but just as a ploy to make us build for you?

You would save a heck of a lot of time and effort on everybody's part if you just said "hey guys, I need a team of rammers, and SnS with static weapons. Build and send your bots!"

And if you're going to host a tourney, at least allow for some variation. It's much more fun for everybody if you have no idea what the competition is going to be like.

I have to agree with R0B0 here... *hide under table* well kinda.. some parts..

im assuming this is a method of promoting NarAI more ? correct ?

a load of restrictions, etc isnt going to send the biggest promo image out to everyone.. you need to think more outside the box then restrictions in a tournament, (all these nice new parts everyone is wanting to make shiny new robots out of and your taking away most designs)

as R0B0 said.. pretty much everyone will make SnS robots, very similar and we will basically have a Bey-Blades tournament. :P

Title: Re: NAR AI Wars v1
Post by: Somebody on March 25, 2010, 06:39:06 AM
I was probably going to make an SnS either way. I cannot seem to build anything else good anymore.

I was thinking whoever have the most kg worth of weapons win.  Spin speed won't matter much unless it is against a refraction type design.  That was why I asked about flamethrower.

If you haven't guessed already, I won't build a SnS.

Oh I wouldn't be so sure... just wait until the BOTM entries are posted, you might see a surge in certain other designs (unless Naryar modifies the rules).

Edit: Oh I guess they are posted now.  In that case, I might as well mention that axle flippers aren't banned with these rules.  And in this arena... quick OOTA's won't be difficult.

Rules changed. I am moving this to NAR AI v2.2.

Signups opened now. You might send me bots now (PM please), signups close 15th May (end of exams) and i will start the tournament then.

I might accept more than 12 bots.

you must make a sign ups thread same as everyone else  ;)

nothing against you personally, just saves yourself from

"I Didnt enterz in time for I didnt seez deadlines"

as there is no excuse if they miss it in a new thread post

and also saves the mod teams from copycats with fail tournaments trying to get sign ups in the discussions thus avoiding the allow/ deny part.

Didn't get the last part... but after all, a signup thread might remind people of this and get me more entries :P

Anyways the thread is done.

person with a unorganized tournament just asks for entries in the discussions becasue they saw you do it  ;)
