Building Rules:
-Stock MW-ish (450 kg, you had no idea what a weightclass was back then)
-No BFE/AAM/Hax
-All in game glitches allowed.
-All robots must show controlled movement.
-No Cheap Norris style robots (Venko get out of my head you still haunt my dreams)
-No clusterbots.
-I can AI, but I reserve the right to ask you to AI if needed. All robots must be ai'd to drive towards to enemy robot.
-No cheatbot2 parts allowed.
-Smartzones will not count towards weight, please don't use them as ballast.

Additional Rules:
-Your robot must be something awful you made when you first started playing the game, ideally before you joined the forums.
-If you don't have the original around anymore, then you are welcome to make a replica of the old bot. Please make this replica as close to the old bot as possible, if it spammed pinks, or had backwards normals, then please recreate that.
-Robots that are too good will be rejected. Remember, you didn't know anything, you thought a bracket wedge would get under things. If it has any regard for DSA, or it spams weapons, then it will probably get rejected.
-It's supposed to be a bit of fun, remember that.

Tournament Format:
-32 Entrants
-First round is a 4 way rumble, with the top two robots from each bout advancing to a randomly drawn single elimination bracket, Bo1.
-The 16 robots that lose in the first round will be thrown into a randomly drawn single elimination Bo1 reverse bracket, where the loser advances, in order to find the worst robot.
-Each robot gets one free havok restart, after that any more havoks will result in disqualification.
-The arenas used will be the Metal Skull arena for the initial rumbles, The Octagon for the next rounds and finally Epic Showdown for the grand final.

BY THE WAY EVERYONE WHO IS MAKING A NEW ROBOT FOR THIS: in previous n00b warz it was illegal to submit bots that were not either the actual bot file of your old bot or an (attempted) exact replica you made of said bot. people that sent in just "lol random n00by bot i just made!!!" were rejected.
obviously ~~conraa~~Conraaa can do what he wants but those were the goals I had when i made the others. if this is your intention also ~~conraa~~Conraaa i'd make it explicitly clear to everyone to avoid confusion.

For reference, these were the entries for previous n00b warz - it does not contain the ones I rejected for being too good, you can extrapolate those based on the quality of these.

@~~conraa~~Conraaa i'm telling you this from experience that many many people do not get the point of this tournament and try to send in things with the intention to slaughter the opposition. it can get very tiring to reject submissions and it's definitely subjective, and i know that everyone was on a different level when they made said bot. I tried my best and I know some of the submissions I accepted were better than others, but keep in mind its all in the name of fun. nobody cares if you win n00b warz or if you get annihilated in the first 3 seconds.

have fun, go easy on ~~conraa~~Conraaa and just send in like the crappiest bot you have.

Remember that the whole point is you're supposed to send robots in from when you were young and n00by. So we can look back and laugh. If you're trying to push the envelope and send in something with the sole intention of winning then that really isn't cricket.

it's a VS variation bot type-y sorta thing that Venko made that had it's stabilizers in such a way that you could easily hit it and it'd just spikeball everywhere

it was clever until the controlled movement rule showed up

I doubt a cheap norris will have been someone's first built bot.

It doesn't have to be your very first bot, just one of your early ones.

I've got plenty of those lying around; might submit something. Unfortunately I might be at a 50 kg disadvantage because I knew what a weight class was right from the start and made sure to stay under the limit...

50kg is not much at all, especially when it's not being used efficiently. I upped the weight limit to get all the anorexic heavyweights people may have made. I sure know I made a few and i'm the embodiment of perfection so other people must have done the same.

First we're in stock, so components are heavy, second chassises are necessarily big and DSA is banned so titanium/steel is another weight to add, and third, we have to waste weight to make bots particularly bad, so weight constraints are hard. I mean, to make something cringe-inducing you have to waste lots of weight on tons of batteries, random airtanks or sh**ty extender work.

I say since most n00b bots are underweight HW's, make it CW. Or if you want to make a lighter weightclass make it MW or even LW.

But this 450 kg weightclass is annoying me.

Don't think of it as 450 kg weightclass. Think of it as a generous MW. I think it's fine, honestly, since it's not even a serious tournament anyway. Plus, the oldest bot I still have happens to be a MW so that's oddly convenient.

Either have someone who's never played the game before build your entry, or have someone else on here make it for you. That way, it removes the problem of people making entries that are semi-competent.

Also with regard to the tournament. It will start very early February. Once i've bought a webcam I can point at my CRT screen. Pits in the Metal Skull and Octagon arenas will active slightly later than usual. And each robot will get one free havok restart per match before being disqualified.

But it actually turns which is better than I thought it'd do so i'll allow it. The one Ecolusian posted in his Ironforge showcase should be fine too. God forbid they get drawn against each other though.

obviously conraa can do what he wants but those were the goals I had when i made the others. if this is your intention also conraa i'd make it explicitly clear to everyone to avoid confusion.

For reference, these were the entries for previous n00b warz - it does not contain the ones I rejected for being too good, you can extrapolate those based on the quality of these.

@conraa i'm telling you this from experience that many many people do not get the point of this tournament and try to send in things with the intention to slaughter the opposition. it can get very tiring to reject submissions and it's definitely subjective, and i know that everyone was on a different level when they made said bot. I tried my best and I know some of the submissions I accepted were better than others, but keep in mind its all in the name of fun. nobody cares if you win n00b warz or if you get annihilated in the first 3 seconds.

have fun, go easy on conraa and just send in like the crappiest bot you have.

We're submitting robots we made long ago when we didn't know how to build and laughing at them. Trying to make a new robot that's bad enough to be accepted, but good enough to do well really goes against the spirit of the thing. If I catch anyone doing this, I will have you executed by the fun police.

IIRC Reier mixed my bot up with Jonzu's, then I ended up in an arena which my bot couldn't even move in.

Did you use one of the beam smartzones? The original release of Madiaba's smartzones didn't include the beam zones so if there's any mysterious crashing, it's usually because the host doesn't have those and hasn't updated.

Signups are officially closed now. I've gone through every robot I've received now and will be chasing up any builders whose robots are too good or broken. If I can't contact them within a week, then i'll kick them from the tournament or replace the offending pieces with bracket wedges.

But, in all seriousness, I entered within the sign-up period. This is a... Little bit irritating. You could've closed the sign-ups when all the places were filled.
