Title: Micro Mayhem - Brackets and Match Videos

Finally after a week of forcing you to wait, Micro Mayhem\'s event administrators are proud to present the event!

For those of you with weak connections, I will post a rather vague synopsis of each of the matches, so you can get an idea of what happens without spoiling anything. Each match is also rated on a 5 point scale, 0 meaning that you should\'nt even bother watching, 5 being a crowning moment of awesome.

Of course, if you want to skip straight to conclusions, you can just highlight the text right under it.

Enough talk, the eliminator round will start Sunday!

Smart Box may have a decent weapons rack, but is that enough to compensate for the fact that it\'s slower than a dead snail stuck in Gorilla Glue?
Definitely not. Toxin Ant KOs Smart Box with 1:19 left on the clock. This match was so one-sided it isn\'t funny for even a little bit.

A less than stellar way to begin the main bracket, though the one who scores the only KO in this match may come as a surprise to some.

So what exactly happens when you pit a flail spinner, a vertical spinner, a so-called "Longhorn Clone", and a face spinner? Well, it\'s pretty exciting stuff. Nobody gets left out of the carnage and if anyone\'s going down it will be in an absolutely spectactular style. There is no such thing as a "safe spot" or an "actionless time" in this people - you probably should NOT miss out on this.
Dynasty is KO\'d by Manic Thing; Metallic Molecule survives; Manic thing scores TWO KOs; Less than 5 seconds survives for much longer than 5 seconds, but it\'s still KO\'d by Manic thing ANYWAY.

HEAT C
BGM - I Ain\'t Your Savior by Bullets & Octane

What a mouthful of names! You really have to wonder if people were REALLY scraping the barrel with original names for their robots. Bot names aside, this fight is a little slow on the action, what with some bots getting tangled and others having slow spinup times - but at least the match is short for it not to be too boring.
Chemical Warfare is INCAPITATED by Dom the Grizzly Mk. II; Twist and Turn 2 is KO\'d by Micro Launch Platform Plus; Micro Launch Platform Plus scores a KO; Dom the Grizzly INCAPITATES Chemical Warfare.

With a lineup like this you would think things are a bit more spectacular. But it isn\'t quite the knockout-fest you were expecting. Action can seem a bit on the slow side, but thanks to some powerful weaponary, the match is kept below the two minute time limit.
Froggi is COUNTED OUT; Longhorn is INCAPITATED by Enturon; Enturon INCAPITATES Longhorn; Hard Hat survives.

Several underweight bots, a rammer that is hard as heck to drive, and a theoretical facespinner that can\'t seem to move... all a good recipe for a boring, dragged out match. That waiting was all for nothing, I guess.

Sounds like an alright match looking at the lineup, but all the damage is dealt steadily over time instead of in big doses; makes for a looooong two minutes if you ask me. Previous recordings ended exactly the same way.

You would think that Black Box, being InfiniteInertia\'s bot, would surely delivery a one hit kill. Sadly, that\'s not the case. But it does still end in a spectacular fashion, with a nice slow-mo and creepy "Stage complete" music from R-TYPE FINAL to set said nice slow-mo to. BANG!
Toxin Ant gets CRIPPLED by Hard Hat.

What I should have done:
used T and T 3. It uses drive motors and is still stable.

S.T.C. - Less Than 5 Seconds
- Big chassis and an exposed weapon motor will be it's downfall. It probably will last less than 5 seconds.

The Ounce - Hornet Scout
- Looks decent, but it has a small reach, and might not be fast enough to make up for it. It may make it to round two, depending on how it does against the FS's in it's heat.

Ianh05 - That Lil' Something
- Might not be quick enough to get to other bots chassis, especially SnS's. Razor tips are damaging, though.

Gameking3 - Metallic Molecule
- I like it. It should do fairly well, but it's wheels are very exposed and it might not be fast enough for a rammer (if it is one. It could be a FS too).

Doomkiller - Be Drilled
- A bot to watch out for. It's biggest weakness are its exposed wheels.

System 32 - Twist and Turn 2
- Getting to it's chassis is going to be a pain, but from my experience, Overkill blades aren't that good.

Life Robot Arena2 - Smart Box
- Weapons are okay, but the chassis is huge and it's probably slower than a dead snail in super glue.

Urjak - Enturon
- A bot to watch out for. Good weaponry, and less exposed wheels. A possible winner.

Craaig - Froggi
- Weapon can easily be ripped off, it's not that quick, and it has huge wheels. Possible SFTW.

Russian Roulette - Dynasty
- I like the idea, but the weapon won't hit anything up there.

JoeBlo - Chemical Werefare (What's with the spelling?)
- Creative, but damn near useless in battle. Possible SFTW. (And probably my favourite bot)

Hurricane Andrew - Get Hammered
- Big chassis and bad weapons. Props for entering a hammer in a BW tourney though.

NateF - Dom the Grizzly Mk. II
- Very damaging, but it will start mauler dancing as soon as it loses a weapon. depending on the weapon motor, it could do well.

R1885 - Micro Launch Platform +
- I honestly have no idea. Is it a popup? Is it a flipper? Whatever it is, I can't see it beating any of the rammers or HS.

Me - Longhorn
- Extremely damaging, and a powerful weapon, but it's a little unstable and has pretty weak armour. A couple of the rammers scare me.

Doomaster543 - Mini Maniac
- Too fast for a spinner and the wrong weapon for a rammer. Won't do well.

Roboquad - Manic Thing
- OMG I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE (especially not here (https://gametechmods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=786&page=9)...).

MrRoboto75 - Wooden Wonder
- Not fast enough to make the 1-armed SnS thing work well.

ACAMS - Karrot Krammer
- Again, not fast enough to cause decent damage.

Clickbeetle - 86
- Might destroy everything here, or it might be HS fodder. I just wish Click had skinned it...

Pwnator - Hard Hat
- Fastest robot in the tourney, but it has very exposed motors and wheels.

DuckRA2 - Robotic W0rm
- Weapon won't do enough damage to make the bot effective.

WhamettNuht - Little Tim Whammy
- Like Hornet Scout, it might not be fast enough to cause damage as an SnS.

Reier - Toxin Ant
- Weapon is too narrow for a rammer. It should still do well.

InfiniteInertia - Black Box
- I think it's a sideways popup. Well built, but I can't see it winning much.

Takatsukiyayoi - TP-3 Mr. Heli
- Looks pretty good. Stability might be a problem though.

It depends on how fast the drive on those FSs are. Because if HS can easily beat Growth of Exile, then I shouldn't have to worry about them.

yeah I made a spelling mistake and gave it to yayoi as Chemical Warefare (accidentally hit an e) and then it looks like yayoi added the second e on the splash :P so yeah its meant to be Chemical Warfare lol (typo team work ftw)

yeah I thought a Flamer Thrower SnS would be cool....to look at ? and then at the last moment I decided to add a typhoon spike so it can at least kill things... you cant really see it in that picture but it does have 2 flamers and creates a ring of fire :evil:

Heat A

Doomkiller & Ounce - 2 SnS robots and 2 FS robots.. it really depends on how fast the SnS's spin but DK's bot its nice and compact which should suit the arena well.

Heat B

Roboquad & Gameking - although RR's bot might be hard to damage I think Roboquad can dish out more points. and I think the weaponry of Gameking will better other robots

Heat C

S32 & Ribbs - if the match comes down to points then possibly myself (assuming the fuel holds out lol) if not I think ribbs may make quick work of at least one robot if not 2

Heat D

ACAMS & Click - I think Karrot Krammer is suited to take out HA and Doomaster and Click has low ground clearance and fast weaponry

Heat E

Urjak & Pwnator - this will be a fast battle (as in speed not time lol) I fear the rammers will find ROBO's wheels fairly quickly (given Pwn's height) and Craaig may put on a show again lol but I fear the same fate as ROBO.

Heat F

I think I will wait to see who the last competitor is before I make any decisions

It's hard be imagantive at BW level, but guess I should have come up something different, but I was short on time and when I saw that I thought OMG MUST TRY! and just couldn't make any thing better, because I'm not very good at DSL.

I told you my entry was generic, I'm actually slightly surprised that I've got the only Longhorn clone.

It is skinned, a little bit. I added a little "86" decal on the back. I just thought the rest of the bot looked best with the default plastic texture for some reason. And I was in a hurry.

I agree with your other statement though. Good thing there's only one HS in my heat, and it doesn't look too powerful.

Surprised at how original my entry looks now. I thought for sure there would be more VS's than just 3.

Good job on the videos Yayoi. You must have a ridiculously fast computer because there's next to no lag in your videos (of course, filming BW's helps too, but still.) And the fights were better than I thought they would be from your description. SnS vs. SnS could be worse. MUCH worse.

This is how i am thinking it will go or at least this is my understanding of the bracket for the second round. The third round will consist of the two winning bots from the second round. I must say I was impressed with Get Hammered. That bot packs a punch; if only it was more stable it would be a serious threat. In any case, I think it might have been able to beat Karrot Krammer if 86 didn't interfere.

And Longhorn losing in the first round? Inconceivable!

(if you want my TLDR point, just read the bold stuff)

While re-AI'ing Reier's Toxin Ant, I could never figure out how to reduce the spinning the bot does while attempting to ram other bots. I don't think Reier intended for TA to be a thwacker, but no matter what I do - reduced the turn speed, the radius, invertible = true, nothing seems to stop the useless flailing.

I realise that starting Micro Mayhem was a major mistake in my "life" as a GameTechMods forum member; with no prior practice besides AI'ing my own TP/R-series DSL2.1 face spinners, I failed to realise how difficult it truly was to create bindings that make the Micro Mayhem bots drive with reasonable competence.

I don't like seeing bots lose because I ****ed up a little detail I might've missed. The more I try to get Toxin Ant to just ram stuff without spinning like a thwacker afterwards, the more my confidence leaves my mind, and I think to myself, "What the **** is the point?"

It's been two months since I tried to correct my incompetence - I think I just got more stupider, if that's even a freaking word.

I guess I ought to stop trying to be cool, since it is useless. Maybe it's time I pack up my anime schoolgirl backpack and just leave GTM. I guess I'm just not cool enough to belong here.

If someone really cared, perhaps I can carry on with Micro Mayhem, even though TA's AI seems to drives like a dumb bitch. Most of you won't care though, even though I've got all four of the Second Round matches filmed already. Most of them are pretty boring and predictable though; I guess maybe BW rumbles weren't exactly the best idea for a tournament in the first place.

Should I finally pack up my anime schoolgirl backpack and leave?

Or is it really okay to carry on even with such critical issues?

And if I do carry on, will any of you help me to fix the issues?

Just because you made a mistake AIing doesn't mean you should leave. You did this tournament because you wanted to, not because we expected you to do so. So I can see no reason anyone would be angry, let alone want you to leave, for making a minor mistake in something you chose to due for the community.

All in all, do not leave! I want you to stay, and I bet the vast majority of the forums does as well. I would be happy to help fix the issue you are having, and I bet Mad, Click or Starcore wouldn't mind much either.

You started one of the most unique tournaments this year, and we definitely don't want it to go unfinished. Which is why we're in a community - we help each other when one is having trouble. Just post the bot and its bindings and we'll try to see what's wrong with it.

If you think most people don't care, you're definitely wrong. People submitting entries is already a sign of showing support. People commenting on your bots (which are awesome, BTW) also mean they care.

"And why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up". Yep, I just quoted Batman's father. But this is very true. If you can't solve the problem yourself, just tell it to us and most of us will be more than happy to help you. :D

Yayoi it really doesnt matter, the only way you learn these things is but mistakes, AI is seriously a trial and error thing, I messed up at least 3 bots in CC1 but people dont hold grudges over it, its just excepted that it was my first crack at a tournament

dont beat yourself up, everyone just has to keep it in mind that your a first time tournament host and these things happen, the video presentation is fantastic and your handling everything else well,

I've had it before, a fast drive on a small bot means that you have to align everything perfect or it will drift so severly it will spin in circles.

Tell Reier to fix the bot, or resend the same one... it could be a file error as well.

Don't get angry at your self for messing up, even if it is something like a tournament. Everyone seems quite tolerant, even willing to of with, your mistakes. I mess up a lot. Heck, I f*** up at least once a day. Yes, I do get frustrated. But if every one is happy with your mistake, what is the to be mad about?

This was my first tournament. I don't want to see it die.

Eventually, one main idea came out of the carnage: "If you want to participate in an AI tourney, you must either accept the standard of the host's AIing capabilities, or AI your own bot." Because no one wanted to end up screwed because of AI, tons of people learned how to AI to better their chances. Before this, only Starcore and some select builders (Mad, CB, etc.) knew how to AI. After this, I believe that SC wrote a tutorial on the old forums and had it stickied, so the masses learned how to AI. Ian re-did the whole tourney, and Sage and Sorrow won, with ian and myself finishing as the runners-up.

The End.

S32 seems to be okay with the loss, so I think you should proceed with the tourney. It's your first one, so it's a learning experience for you and we expect things like this to happen anyways. AI will never be a substitue for human driving.

The bottom line: don't worry about it; it's only a game. MM is an awesome tourney so far, and I can't wait for more action.

Toxin Ant looked fine in its first battle to me. The AI in any tourney is far from perfect. Look at BBEANS. It's the premier tournament, and there have been bots losing because of AI deficiencies before (HazCon vs Enfilad3, first match).

Also, what S32 said seems correct.

It's fine right now! Quit being so hard on yourself. Don't leave. We all entered for fun (if all of us didn't, we should have), it's not the end of the world. This is a great tourney and you're a great host.

Just because I didn't have time to enter doesn't mean im not following this tourney. Obviously some things are builder's error, such as New Catfish 3, which Clickbeetle mentioned.

ex. New Catfish 3 weighs about 235 kilos, which is enough for grannies. With grannies, it drives as straight as a bullet. These things happen and are no use getting worked up about. You need to hold your chin up and realize that there are people like Inf who are freakishly respected members, and he had NEVER had a tourney (to my knowledge) until just a little while ago.

Realize that:
your life isn't a pithole of despair.
You are not worthless
You are creative
You are a good bot builder
You are a well-known builder
You deserve to give yourself so much more credit than you do for the things you are accomplishing.

Russian Roulette's bot I think was intended to SnS spin

that was 2 mishaps from me in my first tournament and so one really cared, the only ever AI complaint I got was from someone (not naming names lol) whose bot was AI'd correctly but lost :P

not forgetting.... as you can see from the last 3 pages (at least) most regular members on here do care about you :-D

Besides you cant leave it is not fair to just give up and leave when all the builders have put as much time as they have into their bots. 1. The robot not being completely invertible, in which case only one wheel would contact the ground at a time and cause a spin.

or

2. The robot's centre of gravity changing when inverted. This is the toughest part about building a 2WD rammer for me. For a bot like Toxin Ant especially, when it is fllipped and still unstable, a heavier side may touch down first, causing it to spin before it stabilizes.

Neither of these problems would have to do with the AI.

I doubt that Ounce, HA, S32 and Joe have their bots anymore (cuz they were upgraded) so that leaves us with 15 out of 26 bots. Only about half of the entries. Not much of an AI pack, huh?

Unless Yayoi has all the PM's and can make it.
