Ok, I had an idea for a tournament a few hours ago, but I couldn't post it since we (me and Badnik) are over our grandma's house and Badnik's been hogging the computer >=(
Rules are:
1. weight class is DSL HW.
2. Custom Components are allowed, but only if they are balanced. You must send the components with the bot.
3. Arena is undecided yet, there is a poll for you to vote what arena you want to have. That arena will then be reskinned.
4. No BFE, AAM or any glitches.
5. Cheatbot2 parts are not allowed.
6. No "unrealistic" bot types (Crawlers, Popups and Jugglers, for example)
7. No projectile weapons (this includes flame throwers)
8. 'Balanced' Components should go by 123SaveTheWhales' Formulas. (thanks BTW)
Have fun guys!

Define balanced.
-
Like for most DSL parts, the more powerful a part is or more HP it has, the heavier it is. And no making up 'futuristic metals' that weigh 1 kg and have like 9000 hp.
-
Yeah, me and 027 made this up a few hours ago. I think it sounds pretty cool.
edit: add 6000 posts to my current post count.

there is no actual way to guarantee that unless you either do it yourself or give a set formula for each component type and check the end product
(I guess 123's formulas could help out here)
-
The idea seems interesting, but this could get out of hand quickly if some n00b gets pissed that his laser rifles are not balanced.
-
How do I balance the 50 cal machine guns on my AH-64 Apache?
-
^^ Make them 300 kg each ^^

Yeah, I think I typed out the whole concussion/piercing/hitpoints/weight formula into Google and used it like that. Useful while I was working on that mod.
Doesn't seem to be in my bookmarks.. I'd have to type it out again.
Ofcourse, it wouldn't factor in fracture. Fracture could be a problem for this tourney.
-
I agree on using 123's fromulas for balancing to 60000 effiency or alittle more if the component has normals.
-
So do NAR AI v2.2 components qualify ?
-
I can still see some holes in this... you would need to check each one carfully and determine weather its balanced
-
For somebody that has not been around long (only 34 posts) I think your ambitions are way over your head. Do a simple tournament. Stock LW or something. Prove that you can record matches and AI bots. I think your tourney idea opens up a big can of worms and you are not a big enough bird to handle them.

Don't forget I am helping him with the AI'ing and stuff (being his big brother) and he has FRAPS. See his Youtube channel.

If I had the technical knowhow, I'd definitely have made a replica of the Heavy Weapons Guy's "Sasha" Minigun from Team Fortress 2.
She weighs One hundred-fifty kilograms and fires $200 custom-tooled cartridges at 1,000 rounds per minute. It costs $400,000 to fire that weapon for 12 seconds.
As Heavy once said, People think they can outsmart me. But I've yet to meet one that can outsmart bullet.

Oh, I forgot that you were his big bro. That is wicked nice of you to help. Still seems like a bit of an undertaking. But, I wish you both luck in making it happen. :D

edited post 1 with a few things. And Badnik will help me with the AI.

what about sandvich?

just a thought...
you say balanced that would exclude people making super-fast motors and super powerful bursts, among other things
its really only new GMF's for robots... since stats must follow a set formula
-
hmm OK JoeBlo.

Even that must be regulated. Example: I could make a huge box that totally encompasses my bot so the chassis can't be touched, and also does damage. Or I could make a reeeeeaaaallllllly long blade that covers the whole arena.
I think the best way to ensure balance is to make a list of allowed custom components, instead of letting people make their own. Like you could take a subset of Firebeetle's components, Dummy's components, and Lu-tze's components and say "you can only use these". Then, even if some of said components are unbalanced, it's fair because everyone has access to them.

Anything goes.....may the best cheater win!

That's what it sounds like to me too. It is a good idea i don't know if it will work out in the end, but best of luck.
