Title: IRL Tournament
Post by: R1885 on November 15, 2009, 10:33:36 PM
You know how most bots, even DSL bots, seem to go low on realism? This Tournament fixes that issue! You see, here is how it works:

DSL Middle Weight.
No Custom parts, other than smart zones(Only for AI reasons)
No BFE of any kind.
All pointed weapons MUST be treated as if they have normals.
Jugglers, pop ups, and crawlers are banned.
No snapper, metal, or skirt hinged wedges(But you can have axle wedges)
Real Motors only(Excludes Snappers)
Controlled movement please.

I will accept up to sixteen bots.
Yes I can AI, yes I have FRAPS, and yes, I have the time.
1.Craaig
2.Naryar
3.Jack Daniels
4.Thyrus
5.Pressure
6.Scrap Daddy
7.Badnik96
8.S.T.C.

thank you R1885s :-D I was going to do a tounament like this (mainly the wedge topic) but 1) didn't have the time and 2) didn't know the best way to write out the rules

I would love to jump in and say yes but I will have to weight and see if I get the time to build :-D

So a shark tooth on a disk=ok then I'm in.

Interesting. I don't really get your fourth rule though...

I am certainly going to enter and just had a pretty original idea.

Post by: JoeBlo on November 16, 2009, 01:57:14 AM
I guess it means you cant put spikes on a disc unless you have an extender pointing them in the direction the disc spins
Title: IRL Tournament
Post by: Naryar on November 16, 2009, 02:05:15 AM
So you can't put directly iron spikes on the panels of a normal shell spinner ? Wasted weight :P

Oh and if you could ban flail shell spinners as well... at least the ones with like 20 axles and razors on them.

You need to make it so components can't pass through each other. :P

I'll give this one a go, heh.

I`m going to build one right now!

No snapper/metal/skirt hinge wedge?  That's fine with me.

Can you tell us which arena it's going to be on?

Edit:  In regard to rule #4
Quote
All pointed weapons MUST be treated as if they have normals.

Why not simply ban all weapons without normals?  That will make sure all the weapons are pointing at the right way.

Post by: Reier on November 16, 2009, 10:41:09 AM
Wouldn't a hinge wedge be called an axle wedge IRL...?
Title: IRL Tournament
Post by: Thyrus on November 16, 2009, 11:07:33 AM
@ Nar: thats the most difficult  thing about it. -.- :P
I`m not realy motivated. I hope I will go to the second round of anything someday.

btw: with howmany losses do I get the SFTW award?

Yeah, I've had a lot of free time to build something decent today XD

Yeah, piston flippers are hard... maybe impossible in stock (atleast competently) , but with a Storm pistom, maybe a little doable in DSL...

Anyone notice that it states no where in the rules that the bot must follow the rules of realism?

With the very tournament name acronym translating to "In Real Life", I think that's a given.

Entry Sent.  Hope it is realistic enough. It was actually kinda hard to focus on building something that does not exploit some of the perks that DSL building allows.

But, it should be ok. I even added sponsors.  :P

Double Post... Registration ends at the end of November.

How come people are not interested in this tourney?  It seems like a fun/easy DSL trip.  Some of you guys probably could make really awesome bots that would qualify for this.

Come on! You can do it!

I guess I'll give this one a try. I'm horrible at DSL, but I'm sure I could get something running by the end of November.

Right, a completely new rebuild, uses real motors, No pointed weapons (don't really understand rule 4-I'm using a beater bar instead), no custom parts, if it gets rejected, then I need to know why....

Prbly not gonna make this tourney.  I've had a design for the longest time and it's still in the trial stage.  Doesn't really work that well yet.
Title: Re: IRL Tournament

Registration has ended.
BUT...
You can still enter through the loaner bot program.
Here's how it works:
I made six loaner bots, all built to resemble real bots, that you can support. Those who are interested can put their name in a ballot. They are then chosen at random to see who gets which loaner. Not every ballot entree will get a loaner, and they will not be disclosed until the splash is made.
I find this as a better alternative to having byes, as all brackets can be filled.
You have next Friday to get your ballots in! Act fast!

i think that some components could use more attachment points.  that would make what you were trying to create easier to create.

oh. No I haven't.  How could I have?  Haha
I was talking about the door hinge wedge. I've been playing around with that idea for a while and I thought that extra connection points on axle mounts and hinges could help make that build easier.  If you don't know what I mean, it's okay.  -.-
Title: Re: IRL Tournament
Post by: JoeBlo on December 14, 2009, 06:07:51 AM
oh ok :P

my issue was for some reason every-time my robot self righted the door hinge havoked and through the robot all over the place

were abouts were you thinking for connection points ? (use image if that's easier)
