Title: International League Idea
Post by: Sage on December 17, 2009, 11:36:35 PM
Class: Stock

Weights: LW, MW, HW

Teams: 4 Teams of 3

Format: Each person on a team builds either a LW, MW or HW so each team has 1 of each

3 separate brackets for each weight class,

4 points for the Team that comes first, 3 for second, etc

after all 3 tournaments a winner is decided,

Extra: teams with more then 3 people wanting in will hold some type of play off between yourselfs to who gets to represent the team

as said before to make this easy to run, 3 hosts for AI and matches (one for each bracket) and anyone else wanting to contribute some how

it would be perfect if we can get the 3 hosts each from a different team,

So it is basically the olympics of bot builders?

Personally, I've been toying with an idea like this for a while now.

My plan was to have Team USA against Team World, with members being selected by a designated "captain" that the host would choose for each side. The captains would then invite four other builders to be on the team. Every person would build a bot of the same weight class, and the robots would face off in a round-robin style format, with each bot from one team fighting each bot on the other team once in a best of 3 match. Robots would be awarded points as a result of these battles, 0 for a loss, 1 for a WBP, 2 for a TKO, and 3 for a KO. The robots with the most points on each team would then face off in a best of 5 grand final.

I would host it if I had the time, but sadly, I do not. I would love to see a kind of "All-Star" tourney like this though, and I would jump at the chance to participate.

A bit of a copy of my idea for a tourney, but....

Poland's robots: None

Ireland's robots: Diotoir, Topbot, Wel-Dor

Australian robots: Terror Australis

And of course, there's the English robots...

Terror Australis would be fun to make.

I think he means just the USA. Afterall, It would be kinda unfair if it was Pys, Kill, sage and acams against the rest of us.

Does it need to be like that, I have a good idea for the teams:
It could be seperated like such:

Team 1: Europe and Aisa
Team 2: North USA and Canada
Team 3: South USA and everywhere else

So, for a possible lineup as an example:
Team 1: Pwn, Nary, Sonny.
Team 2: Scrap, R0B0, Kill.
Team 3: Joe, ACAMS, Inf(?).

Aisa could be added to team 3.

Checklist:

1 - Host
1 - Thread Writer
4 - Teams of 3 (Minimum)
1 - Format Idea

I would love to do this one for people but I don't want to overload myself since over the last week I have been running 2 tournaments

Could it even be done with like a battle of the continents?

we just need somebody (I may even do it) make an opening to the videos and pass it out to the people who choose to host a part of the tournament

then we sort out a bracket and the entries are passed out to those who have them of there section of the bracket (say cut it into even numbers like 4 or 8 depending on how many teams we have)

then we get a nice tournament without a huge burden of work on one person

we could always use the DVD Region Codes

use the map plus those teams I provided to work out which team you compete for  ;)

they are the codes they use for DVD's so they are able to restrict sales to particular areas (kinda the same with buying RA2)

Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: cephalopod on December 21, 2009, 09:42:12 AM
I just had an idea. Shoot it down if you wish

So we have these teams. There can be UP TO 6 representatives from each team - and hence 6 mini-tourneys
Stock LW
Stock MW
Stock HW
DSL LW
DSL MW
DSL HW

And then obviously the team with the most points in all the tourneys wins.
You could even have a DSL/Stock SHW tourney, and/or Stock/DSL AW/BW too
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on December 21, 2009, 09:44:20 AM
Does that mean we need 6 entrants per team?
Title: Re: International League Idea

Title: Re: International League Idea

DSL Blade Arena?
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: cephalopod on December 21, 2009, 11:12:02 AM
Well personally I'd like an arena with low walls - makes it easier for ALL bot types. Something like the RW arena, but maybe without the hazards that everyone seems to hate.
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: Reier on December 21, 2009, 11:12:43 AM
Blade: Cam stinks even with F10. But IDK.

Title: Re: International League Idea

Maybe we could ask Wham to share his [reskinned] WRR arena with us?
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: G.K. on December 21, 2009, 11:16:54 AM
The RW arena is big, so it can be hard to film four robots in.

I agree with Craaig, we must have an arena with low walls. I'd quite like to use the BBEANS 5 arena with hazards turned off, but let's see what the others have to say.
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on December 21, 2009, 11:39:02 AM
BBEANS sounds alright
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: trumpetguy on December 21, 2009, 12:12:06 PM
Expanding on Craaig's idea, if we include the subclasses then all of team 2 can join
Stock AW
Stock BW
Stock SHW
DSL AW
DSL BW
DSL SHW
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: 40757 on December 21, 2009, 03:27:09 PM
Definitely not BBEANS arena.
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: G.K. on December 21, 2009, 03:29:54 PM
Which one do you suggest?
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: Sage on December 21, 2009, 03:35:58 PM
RAW 1 arena, with the walls lowered a bit more?

Also I don't want the subclasses, that just gets to be too much.

I think, because I hate LW tournaments (GUmba UGHSEYGIEVRILYVWEOUYVSDFIUSEFjksefIUfv) it should be the top 4 (chosen from either playoffs or popular vote) and the categories are DSL HW, DSL MW, Stock HW, Stock MW. Each person of the 4 gets to build 1. If there are not 4 people representing a team, a person can build more than one bot to represent his country.

Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: G.K. on December 21, 2009, 03:42:24 PM
1) I like it
2) Agreed
3) Just because you don't like LW's doesn't mean we should all miss out on battles for them. However, if many people don't want to use them, I won't kick up a fuss.
Title: Re: International League Idea

um on poll there no UK
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: Sage on December 21, 2009, 03:45:37 PM
Have you seen GUMBA LW division? I agree this was in part because of the overly large arena, but that is exactly what will happen when we use an arena that we are also using HWs for (because we agreed to have a standardized arena for all battles).

UK (United Kingdom) is in the category of Europe.
Title: Re: International League Idea
Post by: G.K. on December 21, 2009, 03:49:49 PM
Ah. Maybe we should have a seperate arena for each weightclass then.
Title: Re: International League Idea

You could use the Small Arena for LWs, and another arena for MWs and HWs.
Title: Re: International League Idea

UK team should be... i dunno... XD

Sys, Wham and me? or someone? XD
[Also addressed to other UK-based posts]

Well, I'm UK... probably even pure UK. *Shrug*

Well you Sys and Wham?
(Sorry was unaware that you're from the UK too :P)

How about a qualifier? There's you, Red, Sys, Wham, Zog, Ashman, LDL and me who are all interested. (If there's going to be a Scandinavian team I'll be in that instead)

One of us could do a Series 7-style heat or something similar. I could host it if no-one else wanted to.

UK-based team, eh?

You've just got yourself another member!

Like a round robin! Each category has three dueling nations with a delegate from each. In the end we see which nation (or everyone else) is superior.

Post by: JoeBlo on December 21, 2009, 07:21:33 PM
for arenas...

I can make a low wallcombat zone without hazards or lower the walls of the raw arena

I own a low wall small arena that I made for lower class robots

for teams...

I think the current system I posted works pretty well, mixes everything around.

I was originally thinking teams of 3 with a LW, MW and HW. 3 brackets. the winner gets 4 points, 2nd - 3, 3rd - 2 and last 1 point. after the 3 tournaments a winner is decided
