How do you enter tournaments?
Being a huge fan of Robot Arena 2, I just am completely confused by all this tournament stuff.
Could someone please explain?
Thanks
-
Okay, you build a robot that meets all the regulations of a tournament, then you go to the Bot Exchange here, select what weight class and mod your bot is, find it in your Teams folder, upload it, and send the tournament host a PM with the link to it on the Bot Exchange. =P
-
This should be in General Discussion IMO.
And yeah, do what NFX said. Preferrably for Replica Wars 2 :P
-
Or enter Clash of the Titans (my tournament). Build an ultraheavyweight (up to 5000 kgs) using an antiballast that is a downloaded part. Build up to the limit (basically build your idea, then remove the antiballast to see the weight you have filled up). Then replace the antiballast, build to the weight limit, remove it, and test. You cannot have an antiballast still on a robot when you try the test garage or a battle. It will not work. You can also build a multibot (2500kgs robot or 2 seperate 2500kg robots) to enter.
P.S. Do not get your heart set on hosting a tournament either. you need to be around a while just to get the respect built enough to get people to enter. The tournament also needs to be voted in, plus if you bail on it, you are banned from starting tournaments for 180 days.
-
NFX, you mean a link to the bot?
-
Yes he does.
-
Robot Exchange is the easiest way starting out..but it means everyone can see your entry
-----------------------------
build your robot that meets the requirements of the selected tournament (one in the signs ups section with a green logo next to it)
in your game click export in the team section...
in your games folder find the file robot designs...
==== optional =====
go to the Bot Exchange and find the appropriate uploader
upload the robot and tell the host the name of it and the fact its on the robot exchange
====== or =======
put the .bot file into a zip or .rar and use the file uploader on the home page of this site
it will then give you a download link to the file you just uploaded
send that to the host via Personal Message (its a icon below there avatar or a button on there profile page)
--------------------------
Wait for confirmation...

Boy, this is really confusing!
Also, how will you know exactly when to get into a battle you signed up for?

Read the signups thread.
I suggest you lurk in the Tournaments part, and understand all of that by yourself.

Discussion = Upcoming
Sign Ups = Stuff you can join
Brackets & Videos = The Videos of the competitions
--------------------------------
with that in mind, start here..
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/board,94.0.html (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/board,94.0.html)
you can only join tournaments with a (https://gametechmods.com/forums/Themes/default/images/post/splus.gif) symbol, others are closed
---------------------------------
send in your robot, when the competition moves to the Brackets & Videos section, you watch your robot fight...
-
You mean you don't do the fighting yourself?!
-
You mean you don't do the fighting yourself?!
Correct. Much like the computer controlled opponents that you face in the standalone version of RA2, your robot will be given an AI dependent on what type of robot it is.
-
You mean you don't do the fighting yourself?!
Send your robot (and AI bindings when you will have learned how to AI) to the tournament's host, and he does the rest.
-
You mean you don't do the fighting yourself?!
all computer done.. the online is waaay too laggy and this way it really depends on the better built robot, not so much on driving skill
-
this way it really depends on the better built robot
It pretty much depends on luck and the format bracket too :P *thinks of Missile Test*
-
It's mostly down to the better bot, but there is a fair chunk of luck involved with the brackets and such. Valid Query 2 was quite lucky not to have to deal with too many wedges during TA.

There used to be online tournaments but we haven't had a successful one in at least 5 years. The problem with player vs player online play is that the games lose synchronization. You could be literally attacking the wall on your opponent's screen even though you are attacking them on your screen. Online tournaments also required at least 2 people to be available at the same time and to be fair, a third party had to host the online match for them (the host's computer is always synchronized). It also tends to be a problem when you're arranging a battle between opponents that live in completely different time zones.
If you just want to battle harder opponents, look into AI packs.
If you want to battle real people, try to arrange an online match with someone (no need to join a tournament).
If you want to be recognized for your building abilities, start a showcase and/or join an AI tournament (JoeBlo explained how to do this very well IMO).
-
Also see a few other peoples showcases for a good idea or setup for the bot. If you ask them how they did it I imagine they'll explain. Unless they're II :P
Check Naryar, Sage, Roboshark and Reier's showcases.
(It might just help you build a good bot for a tourney)
-
Well, heck!
I don't find it very laggy at all.
How will you be able to see the fight?
Also how do you AI?
-
The match is recorded, also, I can teach you to AI tomorrow maybe.
-
The host will post a video of your fight on the tournament videos thread.
And a link to an AI tutorial is here: https://gametechmods.com/rfshq/pafiledb/index.php?act=view&id=230 (https://gametechmods.com/rfshq/pafiledb/index.php?act=view&id=230)
(That's the one I used to learn how to AI)
-
But it isn't particularly good. SM is much better - he taught me.
-
I managed to AI with Wham's video, a little help from GK, and some trial and error.
-
Erm... This probably sounds stupid, but how did I help?
-
It was kinda passively helping, rather than implicitly telling me what to do, when you AI'd my XTY entry for me.
-
Ah.

That's because you are hosting the match, the host has no lag.
