Helloface's DSL2 Summer 2013 Tournament!
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:22:05 PM »
I am going to be starting an IRL DSL2 tournament using randomly generated arenas from the default DSL2 arenas, with the exception of Mars Arena. The first round will be in rumble format (Only one bot will make it through each rumble), and then there will be two 1v1 semi finals, a 1v1 3rd place playoff, and of course a 1v1 grand final. Brackets are randomly generated. Current deadline is June 17th 22th 25th, but the deadline is highly susceptible to change.

Here are the rules/restrictions:

- Only 16 bots are to be competing in the main competition (NOTE: There may or may not be qualifiers, depending on how many bots are entered. See below).
- This tournament Will still go on, as long as I have at least 1 bot submitted.
- Arena hazards will be on
- Your bot can be modified or changed, as long I receive the upgraded bot before the deadline
- Nobody can be entered until a bot is received and accepted
- Bots can only move by Walker, Shuffler, or Wheeled systems,
- Matches are 3 minutes long
- Must be a heavyweight (399.1-800kg)g
- Must use only default DSL 2.1 parts (No custom components or Cheatbot2 components)
- Can have a maximum of 2 spinning weapons
- Can have a maximum of 3 pneumatic burst pistons
- Can have a maximum of 7 Static weapons
- Can have a maximum of 2 flippers/popups
- Can have a maximum of 2 overhead weapons
- No multibots
- No "Nasty Pickle" type bots
- No flying or hovering bots
- 1st havok, restart; 2nd havok, your bot is eliminated
- Only default DSL2 armour is allowed
- Bots can only be built in botlab

You will have to change your rules quite a bit...

https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11455.0

First of all, no one is going to send  you player controlled bots.

Second of all, better stick to only one weightclass.

Third of all, you will need to clarify your building rules.

and lastly... if it is a DSL tournament, no stock parts are allowed.

You will also have to clarify the random arena rule.

third sentinel rebuild here we go
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Any tournaments that require entries from people need to go through the poll first (you can read about the process here). We've had problems in the past with people starting tournaments when they weren't ready for them so the rules were instated to prevent it.

Edit: The thread that Naryar linked to also talks about the polling process.

You should probably just drop the human controlled aspect; human controlled bots have a huge advantage.

That could be a problem, Shield. My Bot exporter is broken, so I can't AI at the moment. I will try to find someone who will do it for you. Just upload your bot to the bot exchange, and I will find someone to AI it.

You can't start work on a tournament until it get's through to sign-ups because your tournament might not even get voted through.

It's a DSL HW tournament. I will most certainly enter as long as it is properly done, properly ruled and you show enough interest as to not drop this in the middle of the tourney.

Don't see a personal attack in that, but there have been enough abandoned tournaments for me to be wary of entering some tournaments.

Yes, yes, I know, nar ai wars. actually 2 of the bots didn't work because of their size, so I could not continue like I wanted.

No, multibots are not allowed.

Also, did you get the AI problem sorted out or do I still need to find someone?

Your rules haven't been finished yet. You need to finish them before you can accept entries.

Remember the link ? Go read it, or at least go see other tournament's rules and base yourself on this.

Else there will be a lot of mess and loophole abuse and unwanted things, trust me.

a few questions that need to be adressed :

-are cheatbot2 parts allowed ?
-what chassis armors are legal ?
-what about all the DSL2 glitches ?
-any bot types, building methods, or components banned ?
-what is your stance on out-of-botlab building ?

among others.

also HW class is from 399.1 to 800.0, not 400 to 799

When does the game crash? When trying to access botlab? When editing your bot? When exporting?

Yes, that is true. I finished reading the rules for the tournement, so I changed/added a few things.
