Witching Hour : Eh. I not comvinced

Honestly, thank you for finally showing a lack of confidence. I hope to be the favorite that loses early, to fulfill the RW prophecy. Too much pressure, tbh. :)
Don't give up! A wise man once said: "Never lose hope, be persistent and stubborn and never give up. There are many instances in history where apparent losers suddenly turn out to be winners unexpectedly, so you should never conclude all hope is lost."

Ay, but I've been the apparent winner that hopes he's a loser to spite everyone with too much faith.  :gunz:

Bullet Bob :  :SFTW

So my robot will become the most famous of GTM Robot Wars, as much as the godlike SFTW? Great!

No...
Ah, but you have simply labelled my robot with an image of SFTW. That means that you predict Bullet Bot will have exactly the same fate as SFTW, as in it will lose spectacularly, but also somehow become a famous robot in RA2 history. I have henceforth converted your label into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

On a serious note though, could you explain, in technical detail, why you think that Bullet Bot is the SFTW in GTM Robot Wars? After all, it actually has a strength (speed). :P

hmm. the newbies are sure being cheeky today.

answer to both of you is : your weapon setup. It's random, ineffective, and not especially cool looking either.

as a general rule, your weapons are supposed to work together. in Bullet Bob's case, the weapons are not the same lengths so will not work. Plus pole spikes are only meh on rammers. in Witching Hour's case, the hammer isn't exposed but the extender (as in the DSL bar) is, and a single beater isn't cutting it either,  hence unless the enemy bot gets under yours, you will probably lose your beater bar AND DSL bar way before your hammer.

i hope i am clear.

This is not against you but why are people talk like this redditbots thing was something special?
I'm sure you will improve your building the more time you spend in the botlab
I think you underestimate the importance of reddibots. It brought a lot of people to competition ra2. It was my first competition and my first competitive win and brought me here
The Robot Wars mod is totally fair ok!!!

Redditbots is the reason this tournament exists.
I was very frustrated with their irl rule which allowed a lot of very very dubious stuff in. So I figured I'd show how we do it round here.

Oh certainly, no argument here! I definitely am aware of the drawbacks, which is why I was dead serious when I mentioned I was glad that someone finally said it's underwhelming. A few folks earlier in the thread were predicting it as a heat winner & I was getting worried about hyping people up too much, haha.

I could have worked on a more optimized design, but I rather enjoyed the look of the "arms" and their hammers in it's clock-shape. Definitely going to observe it's strengths and weaknesses, how it performs in the tournament, & make tweaks in the future. However, I probably won't work to counter 1 specific weakness since, as in RL combat robotics, doing so could open up several new weaknesses.

Plus, all I ever wanted from it was an invertible clock-bot that could Mauler-dance like a ballerina on shrooms, so I'm content no matter what.

I'm quite thankful you made the transition into the deeper waters as easy as possible by posting over there & putting work into making this tournament very accessible!

My two cents: The best thing about RB is how hosting a tourney on our Subreddit has exposed a wider audience to the game in general. People who wouldn't have otherwise known about RA2 or GTM are loving the game and I think for a lot of them, it makes them feel a step more involved in the community there too, which is awesome.

That being said, there are pros and cons to watching a tournament containing so many newcomers, where the field is not polished enough to have found the "meta" yet. Personally, it's kind of exciting to me. But I can see how it would put many more experienced builders off.

If it just an uninspiring weapon setup, that is actually quite good for a build of mine. My theory into the design of Bullet Bot/Bob is not for attack power, but instead for its raw pushing power. The idea is that once Bullet Bot gets underneath at the front, the weapons ruin the underside of the robots, or at the very least allows Bullet Bot to shove it into a corner or pit. Test conducted on several DSL and Robot Wars Mod (note, the mod version had subtle changes, but the DSL version here was a complete rebuild still) robots proved that these theories could work, especially due to the fact that Bullet Bot, although not as fast as say a Bullet Train, is still very quick. It may need a miracle against some of the lowest wedges I have seen, however.

Theoretically, it could be a match to a select few in GTM Robot Wars. I would have loved to see Bullet Bot face Hurt Sandwich, as although the latter has great damage potential, it is quite high up, meaning Bullet Bot could use its speed and aggression to create an evenly matched fight. Maybe the same theory could work against Hammertime and even Metrocide, two robots that are also great against other opponents, but again have high weapons, allowing the plucky Bullet Bot to make a stand. Meanwhile, maybe it could face Duck Fury- oh wait, this is no doubt the best robot here, Bullet Bot won't stand a chance against it.

As for the spikes, I will take that advice on board, replacing them either with iron spikes, or even converting the entire front to a disc. The only reason the pole spikes existed was due to the fact that I ran out of weight to use.

Unrelated to the quoted post meanwhile, Craaig, are you planning to do any side events? I read that you are doing a reserve rumble, amongst other battles.
