I'm perfectly fine with the melty brain, it's the one wheel I don't get. Melty brain works by speeding up and slowing down the drive motors, but if there's only one wheel, surely the bot'll just spin round and round in erratically slowing circles.

I honestly don't know much about melty brain drive, all I know is that there are 1 wheel varieties (like the one pictured above). So not only is it realistic, it is found IRL.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

It moves faster when driving "towards" the opponent then slow when driving "away" and effectively pulls itself towards the opponent.
(Bad explanation but yeah...)
Better than GK since 2009.

One wheel melty's are very doable, and even non melty's with a single wheel can move around fairly well.

You can see an example of relatively linear movement with 1wd in this video-

What the melty system does is instead of slower, full reversing, it modulates the throttle resulting in specific portions of the rotation being faster and  slower and uses this to translate across the arena.

They don't have spinning weapons on them, though, everything's static. If you gave a 1WD Melty Brain robot an enormous spinning bar to use, it would have no control whatsoever. I don't think a 1WD Melty Brain Spinner of any type would be an effective or controllable machine IRL. Let's just wait for Joe to post up some more videos, I can't be bothered arguing at the minute.

As long as you have a strong enough drive motor and a weak enough weapon motor it could probably work. It might not be all that effective, but neither are popups IRL.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

DSL is realistic as it "can it be built" not "would it work if it was built". I'm still annoyed about the chassis height thing.

What part of the DSL realistic rule does the "idea of grinding down the top of the chassis to allow the disk to go by" break? There were no components in there and moving objects are allowed to move through static ones, so long as a hole can be cut. And a rather large hole could indeed be cut in the chassis.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

The bit where if it was grinded down, another bit of the bot would not be attachable. And if it still was you are simply adding an unrealistic bit to a chassis for more HP which is unsporting..

Point me to the realistic rule that I broke.

You didn't and I accept that. It's just bending the rules to a level I myself am not comfortable with. That's why I'm a bit annoyed but since JB accepted it, it's fine.

Oh, well as long as you don't think it is truly unrealistic then I'm fine. Believe me I am also annoyed by it, especially when I built a better version without that problem.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

Glad we've cleared this up. I hate it when I enter a bot in a tourney only for it to be outdated by the time it fights.

Personally, once you need a cool AI to drive your robot, it shouldn't be allowed in tournaments any more. The only reason we have AI tournaments (pretty much) is because online is too damn laggy. You shouldn't be able to take advantage of that and make a robot you can't drive.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Sorry, you can't. When a tournament is in Brackets and Videos, signups are closed. But pop on over into the Multi-Entry Signups forum and you can join those.

I recommend starting a showcase first to get better a bot building though. If you don't, you'll get trashed.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

Holy sh** I actually pulled it off...

Now Clickbeetle... *looks at bot* Not good. If he starts spinning directly I just hope I can deflect him and make him pull a Haymaker, but my bot's front isn't really shaped to take on SnS like that.

Am also wondering if I can send a skin for my bot and a BSG that actually shouts "TIGER UPPERCUT" rather than the "tch" sound ?
