Title: Centripetal Force - SIGNUPS CLOSED

SIGNUPS CLOSE 1st MAY!

This tournament is all about the destruction - as much as possible, please!
To ensure this, there are bot type restrictions.

Rules
-The bot must be a DSL 2.1 Heavyweight built under the 'Standard' ruleset. Minimum weight is 700kg.
-Please do not enter an IRL bot, I will decline it. Also, if the bot you enter is obviously lower than your creative/technical ability, I may decline it.
-The bot must have at least 75% of it's weapon weight in one of the permitted bot types. If you wish, the rest may be used in a rammer/wedged rammer rack.
-The permitted bot types are as follows
-For weapon motors, you may freely use all types of Perm including Dual, the E-tek, the 2/4/6Mag gearboxes and the Geared Beta (for hammers only). Anything below the Perm 80 in power (Piglets, Mags etc) can be used at a limit of 2 for a specific bot type - for example, you can only have 2 Face Spinning weapons using any motor below a Perm 80. This means you can use more than 2 of these motors provided the bot is a hybrid, and only has a maximum of 2 on each weapon system.
-No flailing weapons
-No BFE for an unrealistic cause, no Custom Components, no AAM/Cheatbot2/ZeroG etc. Trov Glitch is allowed.
-No Clusterbots
-19 entrants (the last 4 accepted entries will be in a Wildcard match)
-Fights will be conducted in the Combat Arena with hazards off for 3 minutes.
-There will be a Loser's Bracket
-All fights aside from the Grand Final (between Winner's Bracket winner and Loser's Bracket winner) will be 4-way.
-1 Havok restart, then your bot will be removed from the battle.
-No upgrades when you send your bot, apart from AI lines.
-I can AI but PLEASE try, it saves so much time.
-If you enter a bot that breaks the rules, you will be notified. Your spot can be taken by someone else if you are holding a spot with an illegal bot and the entry list is full.
-Entries received before signups open will need to be resubmitted after signups open to be valid.
-I will be entering with Pyrexia 2.0
-Any empty spaces in the entry list after 1st May will provide 'bye' spots, first filling the Wildcard, and then if the Wildcard is empty too, they will be shuffled into the first round via randomizer.

Me too. Thing is I actually kinda enjoyed filming the last few fights of RW2005 - the fact is, that tournament wasn't really what I wanted to run, it was an experiment into if I could get people to build 'more' IRL, with the vote.
Besides, I figured I should make up for how long that one took by running something right. What better way to make me run it right than to make it something I personally want to see?
This may well be the last one. It might not. No promises anymore.

That, man is an COOOOOL idea, i bet that this tourney is gonna be a total robotic savagery

i tend to hate DSL-S nowadays but this tourney should be funny and full of frightful carnage

May enter, may try to get 2 dual perms on...

Total Carnage. ;)

I am not entirely sure how you categorize a bot type though.

Say if I build a juggler with a WRAM, it's still a juggler, but how would that work under these rules.
Title: Re: CentRIPetal Force
Post by: martymidget on April 13, 2014, 02:33:58 PM
I'd say that 75% of the weapon weight has to be spinning. Or something along those lines. And half or so of the bot's weight must be part of the weapon system.
Title: Re: CentRIPetal Force

123stw: If i know what you meant my WRAM i could probably give an answer

Marty:

full of frightful carnage

Total Carnage. ;)

Wasn't Total Carnage a tourney Scorpion made with popups banned, i remember Click entered a DSL Drumblebee with a PA top on it
Title: Re: CentRIPetal Force
Post by: cephalopod on April 13, 2014, 03:06:47 PM
Yeah, I think we'd go for the 75% weapon weight on the spinning weapon rule.
Also, Mystic, yes - I pretty much copied it because it never got finished and it seemed like fun.
Natster - try. You've done a lot of IRL builds where people can't give you a lot of advice to improve. You actually have to work a little to get something good in standard, so just try something and showcase it then people can help you improve it :)
Also, ty, yes. It is. :3

anyways for sure i'm gonna enter that, i already made a prototype that you
can check in mah showcase, well maybe i'll make a vs with two 6mag powered discs

You should allow Drums, unless you class them as Vertical Spinners

Thinking about implementing a minimum weapon motor so as to restrict back jugglers and wall-of-weapon FS, I imagine the minimum will be a Perm 45, so I'd be allowing only perms, dual perms, eteks and 2/4/6 mags as weapon motors. Geared Betas are of course allowed on hammers.

i personally disagree with this, what if someone enters a crazy 6 spinner hs that uses mags or piglets or something
Title: Re: Centripetal Force
Post by: martymidget on April 16, 2014, 04:23:34 PM
and a 6 piglet HS is going to be oh so destructive.

I think I'll keep those guidelines for now - they're in the rules now :)

The problem with having a certain heavier weapon motor for jugglers is that it's rarely ever effective, I don't think restricting the minimum motor options is a good idea.

Jugglers aren't going to be effective in this. Period.

Well don't enter a juggler? :P My point of view, and this issue was raised to me by Marty, is that if it's not done, somebody will enter an FS which essentially is a rammer or something because slow motors, and win everything by, very boringly, deweaponing everything else.
In my opinion it's either the restriction or remove Jugglers and Face Spinners, unless I can be convinced otherwise :P
Title: Re: Centripetal Force
Post by: madman3 on April 17, 2014, 06:16:28 AM
Ah well, I've managed to get a juggler that fits these rules now XD
Title: Re: Centripetal Force
Post by: playzooki on April 17, 2014, 03:31:07 PM
i had an idea that may be slightly original for this, but the new rule ruins it.
it wasnt a fs or juggler.

definitely entering, seems good. Good to see FSS are out of this as well.

also lol @ frenzy hammer, more like a walking target.

Though now I need an intredasting idea.... ohwait HS/VS or VS/FS hybrid :O

Actually I never clarified flails. I might disallow them just to make things... less flaily.

Would people rather the bracket be 16 with a loser's bracket or 32 with no loser's bracket?
Thinking of expanding to 32, but still using 4 way melee's, so the first round would be qualifiers and the top 2 in each battle go through to the main 16-spot tournament

I would prefer a loser's bracket, personally.
I'd get to see my robot in action at least twice, as well as any other cool competitors.

*storms into thread*

CRAAIG-CHAN ? MAY I ASK WHY DID YOU BAN PIGLETS WHEN THESE ARE A PERFECTLY VALID MANNER TO BUILD SPINNERS ?
Title: Re: Centripetal Force
Post by: cephalopod on April 20, 2014, 03:04:55 PM
Because people will just make wall-of-weapon FS.

I think I will allow anything below Perm 80 as long as there is no more than 2 used on 1 spinner type. This makes more sense and will allow for cool hybrids.
Title: Re: Centripetal Force
Post by: Naryar on April 20, 2014, 03:10:57 PM
So ? Wall of weapon FS can be beaten by a VS quite easily. Or a solid enough HS.

But thanks for changing the rule. I knew my bot was awesome enough to sway you :D
