Now it's back- and ready for a new generation!

I'm going to be starting the rankings over from scratch because in the past I was inconsistent with whether I filmed 2 or 3 fights per match.
This time it will always be 3, like in BBEANS, to give some proper consistency. The only use of the previous rankings will be on the splash, and it won't have any meaning towards byes or anything.

The tournament will be a STOCK HW tournament. I've not been back long but I feel that Stock's not geting the love it deserves.
Also, in a tournament where creativity is valued, HW gives lots of weight to play with.

Slight idea time here. Since we've done first stock bots before, do we want to give the option to maybe do one of the first 2 or 3 bots, to give some options? Half because it'll be some bots we've seen before (like mine, although mostly new), and half because I'm still kind of pissed at having to build a hammer with face spinners on the hammers for BTTB 3 :P

Cool - are you proposing an open choice of multiple bot or me telling people to do the second/third showcased bots?

Either really, it's not my choice to make haha. Personally I would prefer if we had a choice of the first 2 or 3, but it's up to you.

I am confused why you banned the 140 cm red extender, but it's not like anybody uses it in the first place so I guess it doesn't really matter.

I'd like to encourage creativity with what you build. If you get a popup, don't just enter your best popup - look at the bot you're remaking, see what makes it unique, incorporate that into your designs.

I'm going to run this on a tight schedule. This is because I am going off to Edinburgh at the beginning of August to perform at the Fringe.
Once I'm there I can't film/upload any more fights. If you enter you'll have to be able to commit to building your bot by the first week of July.

If anyone has any rule changes/suggestions I should consider or know I've missed off things that have become standard since 2013, please let me know.

I've also thrown together a stupid and irreverent promotional video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFDIufwRWDA), as you may have seen.

So, if you'd be interested in reviving this old institution, vote in the poll. I'm going to leave thread open for a week to gague interest. Let's get some excitement going!

This is now a signups topic, and the rules cannot change. You have 9 months to complete the tournement.


From a host's POV - I'm going to run with a 16 bot bracket unless we get a deluge of entries. Currently Powerrave has not registered interest but if he returns and does he will get a guaranteed spot along with Ounce and Somebody. I'm aiming to have this part of signups open for a week unless we fill up quicker *dreams*

So, get saying that you're in!

I have a botfile, but it's dead. I should still have the image in it though.

No pictures but those in my head. It was originally 2WD HPZ with N12's. Had four spinners high up on extenders (Or did I servo burst them ? I don't remember), with tribars and irons, an overly large amount of black batteries, and two small wedges on DDT's. And yeah, it was a flipper/VS hybrid.

There was several versions though.

Hahaha make the people use Redbirds or normal Zteks for the spinners then!

My first three robots were a HW poker and then I built some Middleweight versions of the same bot. Do you think that would be two bots or count as one?

Random.org is a tyrant ruler. Looking back at BTTB 2's draw, Gazea, Bubbleman, Ounce and Marty really got the tough end of the stick.

Right then. I present the builders' draw. Remember you are only making one Stock HW. Don't rebuild both.


Remember, be creative. Don't just send in a generic bot, esp if you get a popup or HS. Look at the bot you're rebuilding, see what gives it its identity, and incorporate it into your design.

Otherwise, get building! Deadline for entries is first full week of July.

I do like TBFH buut there's no damn way i can rebuild it and make it good/stable. Also it'll just spikeball gayly all around the arena if it loses it's wedges, and there's no way i am entering a bot like that.

I could just make a stabilizer VS but in stock... with all components having 1000 HP... nope.avi

I think i'm gonna go with the other. Still maces on a stock VS is gonna be painful.

You can just make a HS/rammer hybrid, or HS/hammer or some stuff. No one said you needed to 36hs.

i don't hate stock, the glitches are fun and stuff, its just stacking the friggin batteries and crap that make me want to rip my eyes out

UPDATE:

My laptop has decided to fry itself. I managed to save most of my stuff in time - one of the things that I picked out out as the most major that I've probably lost was the splash for this tournament, which should show far I got into backing up if I'm worried about a half-complete image. I've also backed up my entry, which of course is the only one I can't easily get again.

This means I'm on my old desktop comp at home now, which is where I produced the first 4 BTTB's. However, the computer's got a bit bloated, and it's old, so I don't know how well it could deal with filming. I probably won't want to run BTTB V off this computer, but signups are still going for a few weeks so I should hopefully have a new machine sorted by then. And with RA2 on this machine I should still be able to check entries for their being valid, and probably re-AI everything too.

tl;dr - Tourney Host Curse makes a killer return. Laptop borked, so we might have some bother, but please keep sending for now anyway
