Title: BBBE (Brutal Bots, Bloody Brawls)
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on November 25, 2010, 12:32:38 PM
Kind of thinking of hosting a tournament. I know I'm pretty new but my AI skills have improved dramatically.
It's a bit like BBEANS but I intend on making slightly less awesome, but still pretty good.

1: DSL 2.1 Middleweight, like BBEANS 4.
2: No Cheatbot2.
3: No AAM or BFE.
4: Your robot must show controlled movement.
5: Walkers are permitted, at 600KG.
6: Clusterbots are allowed, but their combined weight must be under 400KG.
7: A best 2 out of 3 wins.
8: 32 Entries. But may change under popular demand.
9: No exploits such as stacking.

Please, this is only a discussion. It will be hosted in the DSL Tourney Arena.

I may enter.

You may want to add some kind of unique rule or something, the way things work is that usually the most interesting tourneys get voted through and there are a lot of tourneys being discussed ATM.

Also, kinda off topic, but why are people starting to put a walker weight rule in?
From what I can tell nobody's created a proper working walker.

*scratches chin*

Well, I was readying for a good newbie whacking in this thread (AKA the standard "learn to AI before making tournaments", the overly stupid "NOT ENOUGH POSTS", or other) but you do look determined enough.

So be it ! I will believe you, but you better come up with something good then...

Two entirely valid points. Though the last sentence depends on your definition of a walker.

Well if that's the case, this might be worth a look.

As somebody (not somebody, but somebody else) said, it'sthe maturity that matters the most for tournament hosting.

Still, I have to admit I laughed at TRIAS's post count  :embarr

Also, why's this BBBE, surely it would be BBBB?

I'm thinking of making it a certain weapon only (e.g rammers, spinners, flippers). The name of the tournament may be subject to change.

I've managed to AI Peekaboo and Killertron and they tend to be quite wise and not drive into hazards. Although for some reason, my Peekaboo havoked when it got flipped by Emergency.

not driving into hazards is because it`s in the .py files :P

Kinda ambitious for an early member, in my view, I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt here. Good luck if this does go through, and I might enter this as well.

Limiting weapons? Could be a good idea, but you'd have to make it a decent type, and one that has great variations within it's type (like spinners only as Total Carnage)

And don't worry about the havok, it's emergencys fault most likely  ;)

Ah, I just self advertised slightly in this post! yay for me :)

You might also want to specify the list of what you call "exploits" so that cunning tricksters do not warp, bend, use and misuse the rules as their own whim.

Rules might be subject to change though. I could call it Flipper Frenzy but I need to think of an Arena with high OOTA walls. I could make one but it might go wrong.

I was once thinking of making a tourney without weapons. so all tactics would`ve been in making a good chassisshape. but better do not try this :D :P

*death glare of death*

Nah, but in all seriousness, let's just enjoy the tourney if it goes ahead. =]

Yeah, I don't see a flipper only/no weapon tourney going down too well.

No weapon tourney... bah... most boring thing ever, though as a good point it might make builders think of new designs if we rule out burst motors.

As I posted that I was thinking about what a popup only tournament would be like..
..probably a wedge war unfortunately  :frown:

Nope, but there's a heck of a lot of popups and wedges in there. 2 36HS's and a VS. Noodle has a Juggler. And Ounce has Nuclear Fallout. =D

Or wait for 123STW to build an anti-popup popup that does not rely on wedginess to beat enemies.

On a different matter, I could make one right now.

Yes, I don't think it's that bad an idea because a lot of the more adventurous builders will probably try to build something innovative to avoid simple wedge vs wedge confrontations.

Still, pop ups are quite a dull to watch bot type overall.

Popups are BEST.

Oh yeah they're a powerfull design, I just mean that they're far from the most interesting design out there.

Oh yeah, isn't that the one that had wedges on linear actuators?

Still, generally they're not that interesting, i'd much rather have a septuplet hybrid anyday ;P

Very well, I shall do as you wish...

Also, erm, we're surely VERY offtopic here, and you fueled it Nar!
For shame.

Unles TRIAS made this a hybrid only tournament...

Stock tourneys are kind of a rare breed, it seems, but DSL seems to be doing fine, in my view.
