I JUST got the idea of a DSL HW cheatbot tourny lol.

It would be cool, we have to many DSL HW tournys with no cheatbot.
Title: Re: The Tourney of Awesomeness: New Tourney idea
Post by: GoldenFox93 on June 23, 2010, 02:16:39 PM
But Sparkles, then we'd have flying monstrosities with cannons. It'd be more like Warhammer 40,000 than a RA2 tourney.
Title: Re: The Tourney of Awesomeness: New Tourney idea
Post by: Sparkey98 on June 23, 2010, 02:20:45 PM
Well, what about only DSL cheatbot parts?
Title: Re: The Tourney of Awesomeness: New Tourney idea

I don't like the idea of cheatbot 2 parts either
Title: Re: The Tourney of Awesomeness: New Tourney idea

That makes 17/10 then. Also why is that called "The Tourney of Awesomeness". It seems like a standart DSL HW tourney to me.
Title: Re: The Tourney of Awesomeness: New Tourney idea

IDK. Because it's a cool name? :laughing

yeah its fine and will go under discussions (I wait a few days to see how serious the host is though)

Title: Re: The Tourney of Awesomeness: New Tourney idea
Post by: freeziez on June 23, 2010, 08:00:07 PM
Yeah. The 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th bot to enter will face off in a WildCard Heat, where the last bot standing moves on to the regular tournament.

You might want to clarify the rule on more than 1 active weapon and less than 5 active weapons. Does that outlaws static weapons ? Are you talking about weapon system or number of weapon components ? Etc

And honestly you really could have found a more original name for your tournament... but i am in.

the arena is just the LuTze one is it not ?

pits seem to be one of the most wanting things but are also the most horrible thing to do, adding a hole into an object within notepad is harder then training an army of small white rabbits :P

AI components make 90% of cheatbot2 lol. And if you allow AI components there will be blatant cheating, AKA Judge burst motors, darkpacks or HPZs that are better than Magmotors for the same weight :P

Gotta answer alot of questions.

For judging are you using the RFL Judging guidelines (http://botleague.net/doc/judging-guidelines_V3_1-0.pdf) or something else?

Yes, except for judging will be based on Agression, Damage, and Control, each category 5 points per judge, totaling up to 45 points.

What does it mean by using AAM to extend flippers? Also, do decals have to be visible? Lastly, is the drum in my showcase legal for this?

- I'll just remove that.
- No, but they have to be on the bot's exterior.
- I guess so.

Are replicas of battlebots legal?

No.

_________

Also, you only have 3 hours to vote for your judges!

Doubt this will work

Aggression: AI will always be equally aggressive, (AI never runs away :P)
Control: AI control will always be the same, the better control will be the bot you AI better making it quite unfair

I would suggest using the current style of judging, point given for every attack, e.g.
ramming= 1 point
flipping= 1 point
hitting with spinner= 1 point

etc.

Cause if a bot does get flipped over and it isn't invertible it is pretty much screwed. (Unless facing a wedgy flipper, but this is unlikely because of the enclosed arena)

Whoops wrong words, I meant give them the option to judge and if they wish not to judge they can enter and then you move to the next person with the next highest votes.

I completely agree with you, freeziez, I think GK and SKBT will call the matches as fairly and impartially as possible.

I do have a prototype, but it required quite a lot of axle loading.

Pardon my french but, you plan on filming in an arena that is unbalanced and laggy? Just reskin the combat zone or find some other low lag arena and film it in that arena. Also there is this one line where if a robot passes all components outside the robot turn transparent, would you really want that?

It's just a decal, isn't it? Make a 64x64 .tga file and save it into the decals folder.

I would say a walker is a robot that does not use wheels or weapons as a means of propulsion.

This Tourney is turning out to be a complete joke. Laggy Arena, must have a Sponsor Decal, allowing AI parts, what's next? "You must take a picture of your self standing next to the robot"
Just keep it simple.

Although with the arena business, if lag does become a problem, I'd suggest using the skinned Battlebox from the old BB AI pack. That's not too laggy from what I remember.

Maybe so...it's just this little issue- how are you supposed to make a realistic flipper/lifter/crusher with a bunch of pathetically weak DSL burst motors? With one of the regular ones rigged like an IRL flipper, you'd barely even lift a lightweight.

And that sounds good too- as long as I don't get thrashed too badly like what happened when I came up against Sage (almost like pitting Chaos 2 against Twn Tyrn), I should be fine. But then again, beating Snow Miser might be good too.

Not necessarily- it depends on the validity of certain parts. For instance, you could use the Judge motor for say, a powerful flipper. However, you can't use loads and loads of Judge axe heads for a weapon- that would just be silly.
So it's yes to some parts, and no to others- you just need to check with Freezie if it's alright.
