Bit dissapointed in how some made no effort to make a realistic design and just spammed weapons

No way my bot will stand up to it for 3 mins, TBH that bot should be disqualified as it shows no attempt to make an IRL style appearance

Garvin yes, 027 no. That design could be done like that in real life- look at the Revolutionist for instance.

Garvin's robot is absolutely dreadful. why was that even allowed into the competition? I told you we'd get PO'd at someone who entered a robot with no skin and no attempt to look IRL, and sure enough, we did. I hope Garvin goes straight out in the first round.

I'm actually reasonably confident with my match, in all honesty.

I thought I send in the reskinned version of my bot.

I know it will lose in round 1, clearly it can't fight a HS with dual perm, but it be nice to at least look right.

Predictions:

Conraaaaaaa: Nice looking pusher. I hope there`s a hidden weapon in this otherwise it musst be a bot with a very though armor.
GRW: I guess that`s the Biohazard style flipper. love the Panic Attack look of it. not sure how it will perform
Garvin: SFTW! Not even trying to make a realistic looking bot. could do some damage but I hope it`s going out in the early stages.
NFX: One of my favorites! looks realistic and can do well.
Vertigo: A bit disapointed about the paintshop...no warningstripes :P will do well against an non invertible bot but in this arena the walls are to high to flipp an HW OOTA.
Scrap: my favorite for this. invertible and pushing pover. awesome paintjob and idea behind this. I just want to point out that I didn`t copie the idea for an pusher from your entry. got mine ready before I saw this one.
R1885: not sure what it does (it looks like barbarous to me) but I like it! Good luck against me in round 1 :P
MassimoV: Nice bot. may won`t work when inverted.
027 LB: well. it`a a shellpinner. will do whatever shellpinners do. not the worst in this.
Badnik: I guess this is one of the favorites. powerfull weapon and I like the use of the TD arm. for srimech reasons?
MikeNCR: I must say I dislike it. It`s just an ordinary DSL entry. But cause of this it will do well.
123STW: the bot itself looks great BUT I dislike the hingewedge and the razor spam.
S_M: another favorite of mine. It will do well I guess. chassis is protectet and it`s invertible. just wondering where the sponsor decal is ;)
Thyrus: Best bot of this tourney. It will win this. no question
DSC: I just say: when I reach round 2 I`m fuuuu`ed up
Preytor: well.. an invertible rammer.

A few things.

1) Conraaa. 3 a's. Three. Just fyi.
2) Where's the sponsor decal on GTG's? And how did you let that in Freeziez? Over Gf93 of all things?
3) I love Thyrus' bot
4) My match is going to be interesting. A very fast bot with no weapons vs one which can't be immobilized and is effectively a spinning weapon. I can't see me winning it personally. Unless I do really well on control and agression points.
5) I was going to post predictions for round 1 but mine are pretty identical to freeziez. Bar I think Thyrus < R1885

Edit: I meant Thyrus > R1885 >_>

DSC's Predictions:

Conraaa: Tank, although it doesn't look like it'd actually be damamging. Might have been better with the Killdozer plough, but we'll see. SAXTON HALE MAY OR MAY NOT APPROVE.
GRW: Looks decent, flippy, depends if the skirts are at all effective.
Garvin: SFTW is being polite. I could say many angry things about this, but I just wish this a speedy exit.
NFX: Looks like it's going to be a contender with that weapon setup. Nice skin too.
Vertigo: Skin is slightly meh, but I dont doubt this will be a good flipper. however in this arena it's not an adavntage.
Scrap: Another Tank, and could screw a few people with a well timed push onto the wall. Has to be one of the favourites.
R1885: Barberous in style, dunno how effective it'll be in combat.
MassimoV: A decent-looking bot damagewise, but absolutely no style looks-wise. A robot that dove into the scrap-parts bin magnetised.
027 LB: A shell spinner. I'm doomed.
Badnik: Going to be formidable, although it looks very unprotected around the sides and back. It's a different story if anyone can get around there though
MikeNCR: Bog standard DSL shell spinner, like 027LB, but had the potential to look very Mauler-ish. Will probably do well in combat, but won't be a fan-favourite.
123STW: Looks unique in this field. A better draw and this would have probably gone far, but against Badnik's bot it's going to struggle.
S_M: Another Barberous! But at least this one looks the business. Might surprise.
Thyrus: TAAAANK. Looks like GBH2 in a different paintjob, but may not do too well in combat. Depends on what it does.
DSC: Probably a SFTW. Probably going to get wrecked.
Preytor: Invalid Query? A smashybox, will do well depending on who it fights.

What razor spam?  They are not even placed to hit.  If I want to razor spam I would put them all in the front, and it will not violate the current rule requirement.

Can't people just appreciate that the razors' there to look nice?

I thought 123's razors were intended to look a little bit like wings or spines, rather than weapons. I do think that Cutting Teeth might have been a more aesthetic choice, though. But I've got no beef with him over them.

Yours actually looks like it could be built IRL (Barber-ous, anyone?). Perhaps a logo could have been placed on the hammers outside or something, but you actually TRIED to make an IRL-style robot. Garvin just didn't bother trying at all.

Garvin vs. GF93 for that spot! :D

What?! You give Garvin the spot, and then twist right around and stab him in the back? I know his bot looks terrible, but as the tournament host you gave him the spot, and you accepted his entry. You shouldn't be allowed to just throw in a random Wildcard match just because Garvin's bot is unpopular.

Agree.  Nothing in the rules suggest the bot must look good, and I can't conceive what realism is suppose to mean if a box with 2 wheels and some poles are consider impossible in real life.

I know some of you might feel cheated.  But to me the 2 shell spinners are trying much harder to win than this box with poles.  They are clearly not build for aesthetics, innovations, or simulations.  They are build because shell are known top tier on DSL.

That said, even if the wildcard match did happen, I got a feeling that GF93 will lose anyway.

Wow, some pointers...
1. Quality of the first match was bad, at least take the time for us to get the full match (Sounds cheesy but that is why we like Battlebots over some robot inspired docu-drama)
2. Saw Havoks (Can't really point that out but it should if they are going to end matches badly and you end up publishing those matches)

OK guys, listen, I can't please you all. If I let Garvin continue the tournament, half of you will be upset, and if I disqualify him, the other half of you will be mad.

Honestly, I didn't see anything unrealistic about Garvin's bot, so I won't disqualify him. I'm sorry to anyone who finds this unsportsmanlike.

2. Yes, but I am crunched on time and since none of the havoks actually affected the outcome of the match too much, I let it go,

What Recorder do you use?

Fraps. I know it's laggy, but I can't get anything else (I'm only 13 :P).

As in you cut out 23 seconds in the first video, you should have re-done the match if you pressed the Fraps record key late. Don't be lazy ;)

You really should use the f10 cam, it's easier to see the opponents that way

Also the tail on Hard Drive (my bot) is just a tail. No srimech.

PREDICTIONS

Conraaa- Looks tough, should do well if it can last 3 minutes
GRW- I like Biohazard flippers, too bad this one didn't last 6 more seconds :P
Garvin- Do I have to say it?
NFX- I love this bot. Shame I have to beat it >:P
Vertigo: Another sick realistic bot. Maybe this think can beat Garvin. I HAS FAITH!
Scrap- Nice job getting to Round 2, but IDK if it can beat 123.
R1885- I hardly expected one FBD in this tourney, much less two. I dunno how this one will fare against Thy's rammer.
MassimoV- This bot looks pretty cool. Too bad it lost.
027- It has a chance to win this thing. As long as it doesn't come up against Mike or Preytor.
Me- I have a chance as long as I'm not flipped by anything :P
Mike- Kinda ruins the spirit of this with the tiny chassis, but looks kinda like Mauler on steroids :P Don't like it too much though...
123- THIS LOOKS AWESOME and obviously performs pretty well too.
S_M- I love this bot. It just looks so professional-looking. Rooting for this guy!
Thyrus- Well if looks could kill...
DSC- Sweet bot. Too bad it has to fight 027's spinner D:
Preytor- I like the side teeth. Gives it an IRL feel. Should go pretty far

My main worry is S_M going over my bot and damaging the top of my robot. I'm pretty sure that I will survive the 3 minutes, it's more how much damage affects the judges decision. If it's come to that.

Oh and freeziez you say you're recorded all the round 1 matches, but you arent posting them? Oh you tease.

Well, I don't see why not? And SS's there's tons of those, and even though 123's isn't...conventional...it's still realistic.

It's definitely doable. There's plenty that have two, and there was one Robot Wars Series 2 (or 3) applicant that had three.

S_M, the scores only seem quite harsh because the judges MUST award 15 points in total, so there's always an odd number of points difference: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and so forth. I think it was actually pretty close to what I'd have given.

But now's not the time for judging banter. Let's just keep watching the matches from our vantage point in the crowd. =P

Nope.
Just to confirm. This was judged on number of of attacks made by each bot. Then this was adjusted to a percentage of the 15 points. Damage was much less used than I would have hoped but oh well, it's freeziez's choice.

I still think a 75% warn for one instance of cursing is completely unjustified, when you consider the amount of other stuff that goes on in this place. But I don't want to turn this into a rules debate, let's just wait and see how Round 2 goes.

If that is the case (another word for donkey, perhaps?), then that was incredibly petty of ACAMS.

I'm amazed by the amount of videos you've done. Most tourneys it takes about 2 weeks to a month to get this far.

Figure I'll make a suggestion while we wait for the final:

The only real issue with the tournament was the arena, specifically, the path finding around the hazards. Not sure how much work it would take to fix it, but I think an arena with proper hazard mapping would have drastically changed the results of the tournament. It seemed like almost every fight started with the faster bot racing across the heck raisers and getting launched into the arena wall.

I don't know how hard setting up proper pathfinding would be, but I think either mapping the hazards properly or using a real world style arena with good hazard mapping would make for much better matches.

We could use the Battlebox Arena instead.

If Badnik can give me the information on how to remove the heckraisers, I will use the Battlebox 2.0 with no heckraisers. If not, then the Battlebox.

Removing the heckraisers would leave a hole where the heckraisers were. Your best bet would probably be screwing with the .py so they don't activate.

Whoops, I meant removing the activity of the heckraisers.

Good match and I think the judges nailed the score. I had damage by a good margin, but didn't do enough to really hamper Thyrus, so it's only a minor lead there, and Thyrus was able to stay much more aggressive.

It's a deserved win. :) MikeNCR's bot was damaging, but you can never really see a controlled, aggresive spinner in RA2, much less one thats bouncing around the arena.
