Title: Around the World
Post by: Mr. AS on February 21, 2013, 09:21:42 PM
(http://i.imgur.com/UdvEJbv.png)

now that i have a shiny new computer that can record more than 3 frames per second [only half-joking here], thought i might give the tourney section another run.

Stock LW (you should know what stock means)
-No BFE, AAM, Hax Mode, cheatbot2, Thyrus Glitch, Text Editing
-Any and every non-cheatbot2 stock component is 100% legal, this includes the 140cm extenders, all AI parts, and the snapper II
-Your bot must have 2 powered wheels and show some sort of controlled movement (i will be testing for this)
-Failing the controlled movement test will result in your current entry being rejected, you must replace your entry after with something more stable/controlled.
-Occasional havok is counted as controlled movement as long as it is not constant (i.e. you cannot turn without going airborne)
-Bots must be between 245.0 and 249.0 (while still displaying LW) kg
-Once accepted, you are allowed to update/change your entry ONCE and only ONCE.
-Any obvious attempts to counteract or otherwise exploit a loophole in the rules will be automatically DQ'd and mocked on sight.
-All of the bots entered will become a part in ASAI. As such, I will be preforming quality c on each of the robots to make sure no horribly subpar bots become part of the AI pack. I will allow some leeway, but no blatant SFTW entries please.

-There will be a maximum of 24 entries. (4 AI teams of 6)
-My entry will be Micro:
-I will only enter if there are leftover spaces after signups have closed.
-If there are still empty spots after I enter the rest of the spots will be filled with a bye of some sort.

-The arena will be RANDOMLY SELECTED EVERY MATCH (with hazards on). Some arenas will be excluded (such as the ant late-night rumble, the race course ring arena, etc), but some that are included will require more mobility to traverse them than others (such as the bridge of doom or the black hole space arena), this means that you will have to balance the weight put into weapons and weight into mobility.
-The list of arenas is:
(note: Epic Showdown will be used in the finals)
-Each match will last a maximum of 2 minutes.

--The brackets will go something like this:
-Round 1 will have 8 heats of 3 bots (single matches), the winner of each match will go to a winners bracket, the runner up to a losers bracket, and last place eliminated immediately.
-In round 2, bots in the winners bracket will face bots in the winners bracket (same with losers) in 4 battles of 2, and it will operate like a basic double elimination tourney (with single matches) from there until the finals. Finals will be 1 v 1, best 3 out of 5

Should you do well in this tourney, they will receive:
The final 4 will get an (optional) automatic entry into the next Around the World
The runner up will get all of the robots AI'd to use and mess around with before the release of ASAI in addition to the previous prize.
The winner will get ONE MILLION DOLLARS 2 entries in the next Around the World (only one spot will be reserved however) in addition to the previous prizes.

tl;dr send me a good stock lw that you have ok

Signups are open until March 31st (3/31/2013) at 8 PM EST

Wow, an actual elitist RA2 tourney. I might enter Astraphobia 2 in this, but I dunno how its ground clearance will hold up.

Wow, an actual elitist RA2 tourney.
IIRC mighty naryars mighty bla bla had quality control too, but it went just fine.

something like astraphobia would be just fine, all that i ask is that nobody sends SFTW mk. 2 or something.

Yay, a stock LW tourney! I may enter a generic LW HS, if I get past quality control.

And every non-cheatbot2 component doesn't count custom components, right?

I wouldn't allow the beta redbird. IIRC the gmf doesn't even exist (or was the it text file).

I don't think the April Fool's arena with the hazards on is such a good idea.

It is too much for me now, I'm officially not entering as an act of protest, even if no one actually enter with a uberstacked bot, sorry...

The heck is a uberstack glitch?

I plan on entering this, as soon as I make a semi decent LW.

It's using the axle loading glitch to get rid of the axle on z-tek which allows you to stack a nifty (and other things I think) on top of it. I might still enter one of my LW's just to see how much of a difference the new stack makes.

the "uberstack glitch" is the fact that if you axle load a ztek you can place a nifty in it. if you make the chassis 8-or-so pixels high you can then put a CB in the nifty.
people are just calling it the uberstack glitch because venkos been freaking out over it

I don't get why people are calling it the uberstack glitch when it isn't even a new glitch  :dumb)

It's a new way of using an old glitch, instead of stacking things on the motor you are stacking over it which reduces chassis space needed. I called it uberstack because it's a superstack.

(ueber , uber or uuber) is a German language word meaning "above", "over" or "across". It is a cognate of both Latin super and Greek ὑπέρ (hyper).

Isn't this basically then regular old stacking then?

No because you need the axle glitch to stack it.

No because you need the axle glitch to stack it.

So, in that case, wouldn't it be easier to just stop axle loading, rather than trying to split axle loading into allowable stuff and 'uberstacked' stuff... in fact, wouldn't it be easier to just call 'uberstacking' by the name of axle loading, since there is no difference bar the application, from what I can tell... and, in that case, I'm pretty sure that quite a few tournaments already disallow axle loading, so I really don't see the problem.

Snapper loading wouldn't be allowed then because it uses axle loading to move the snapper's arm out of place.

perfectly fine.

I don't see any problem with the überstack glitch, if it's just stacking something inside a z-tek by removing the axle.

Not to spam this topic or anything but my opinion is that it's a big space saver, people can't tell the difference between it and AAM, and it's not directly exploiting the glitch by using the axle to place object on it but using it to stack things over the motor the axle is a part of which seems to be a fair bit more like cheating. Whether it is a big enough advantage to be considered illegal or not is yet to be seen.

I have a question :
Why no one (ClickB, StarC and so...) discovered and used this stacking before the "HAX MODE"?
Coincidence?
Title: Re: Around the World
Post by: ianh05 on March 16, 2013, 09:50:41 AM
I think people who discover glitches actually set out to try and find them, people like Click are more concerned with building bots etc. anyway hoping this tournament's signups start to pick up speed.

I used it way back by stacking a control board inside a ztek's axle, or an anchor inside a ztek.

I think it was before hax mode stuff.

I don't see how it is cheating when stacking and overlapping are allowed.

The problem is not the "cheating", the problem is, that it will ruin stock and making it a BFE compactness contest. I can explain You some things, but I will just quit the dispute, I don't want to spam the guys thread.
So whatever...

You know Venko, every single time someone thought a new glitch ruined stock, the future showed them wrong. Every single time.

Not even hax mode who was prophetized as "the end of stock" by fire and brimstone prophets such as sage, and which could indeed ruin the whole stock metagame. But it didn't.

Yet people still build in stock, yet stock tournaments are still being held.
