Title: The Collins Stock Showcase
Post by: Probably Rob on April 15, 2013, 07:53:07 PM
I rarely build with Stock, but since nearly everyone show their tournament entries, I might as well so you can have a lovely, closer look.

All Round Bot Builder entries:

Antweight: Abandoned

The robot was found underneath a snooker table, wrapped up in blankets within a box. Totally not stealing Lister's life story. Luckily, the person that found the robot was a roboteer - coincidence! It was such a mess, and the person had no money, he decided to find random bits of metal in a junkyard and put it back together. Thus, Abandoned was [re]born!

Beetleweight: Mininfamy

Originally a rammer, before being turned into a poker. Despite its size, it's still not the smallest of the Infamy robots. The right wheel, during a match (or in training room) does match the other side of the wheel (silver plate poking out).

Lightweight: Crimson Destiny

Turned out to be an accident, and the start of my ARBB entries. I exported a DSL chassis (which may look familiar when the MPire 2 airs), and imported it into Stock to see what I could do. Tried to copy a bot I previously made on DSL, and changed it up a bit. Luckily, I was able to make this a Lightweight.

Middleweight: Infamy M

The original Infamy M was Infamy S of DSL, with it being a Lightweight and having Pussycat's blade. Again, I imported the chassis and tried to make a slight copy, but gave it steroids and the flywheel increased.

Heavyweight: Orphan

The most trouble I've had when making a robot to make it a Heavyweight, for some reason. I wanted to stick with one chassis (same as above): No changes, and no replacements. Even with Steel, it was still a Middleweight, so I added a flag type decoration, and for some reason, I fell in love with it. It moves - obviously, and I've already done a few other flag type decorations on a couple of other robots.

LW-yeah I'll clone that later in DSL.
MW-best one.

I like them!

Little worried about the damage potential of the heavyweight, but they look good.

Cheers, guys. Wha' you talkin' 'bout, Maz'? Look at the gleam on that, look at it shine! 'course it can do some damage.  ;)

Robot Wars: Extreme 3:

Infamy

Since the tournament is no more, I might as well show my Wild Card/New Blood entry. The flywheel blades went through a couple of changes, before I decided to go with the two fireman axes. This was the first Infamy robot, not to feature a flipper primary weapon.

You stand practically no chance against most bots with these, just saying.

So no fun's allowed, then?

No, I am not attacking you personally. Why riposte when there is no attack ?

You are free to enter a tournament with whatever bots you like, unless the host puts a restriction on stuff. However, the fact remains that most of these are very poor battlers by today's standards. The antweight and the beetleweight are OK, but you are not entering an IRL tourney.

You want to do unique and/or cool-looking bots ? You can do these while having decent fighters as well.

IRL stock just seems like a joke to me now. What has GTM done to me?

Hey, if i ever start a Stock Showcase, it'll be IRL.
I just don't think average DSL and Stock are unappealing to my work. I just like IRL, well, isn't the original stock AI was IRL anyway?

Hey, if i ever start a Stock Showcase...
you did

...it'll be IRL.
it wasnt

i use past tense because you managed to get it deleted

on your bots rob... you shouldnt import dsl irl bots' chassis and make a stock bot out of it. thats just silly and wasteful of weight in most cases.

Yeah, it was kind of an experiment, since I didn't originally intend on joining a/the tournament. I'll most likely do a chassis from scratch from now on, if I find one I'm interested in.

also DSL armor is overpowered at Stock level. Make sure to change armor when you move a chassis from DSL to Stock.

Yeah, I changed all armours while making them.

I like your bots too. They just have some original spirit. Build and enter with whatever you want, they will even have a chance in Normies VS Freaks tournament. Also, they can be used in some AI pack "default stock bots" level or in "noob wars"/"stock IRL" packs/tournaments.

That's actually really cool. Would have had a rather decent chance in RWS8.
