Title: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on November 20, 2010, 11:42:14 AM
I'm pretty crap when it comes to building robots on this game.
Here's Peekaboo, named after the TF2 Spy. It's a popup bot.
BTW, I aplogise for the wierd colour, the robot is now not working.

Please don't be too harsh because I'm crap at this game compared to you lot.

Hurrow.
robot is now not working.

What do you mean by that.

Crop everything but the part with the bot. We all know what the bot lab looks like.

Welcome to GTM.

I tried to add a picture (decal) of the Spy saying "Gentlemen". I guess it kinda got buggered up.
Anyway, any suggestions on what I should make. Popups are really fun IMO.
Maybe a VS though (challenging idea)

I love your name, but don't like your bot. Anyways, welcome to GTM. Try and make the chassis smaller, and replace the T's with some round extenders or something else.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: NFX on November 20, 2010, 11:57:37 AM
Decals must be 64x64 .tga files. And make sure they're either 16 or 24-bit versions when you save them. Also, the Grannies seem to be darker than normal.

For starters, pink batteries are almost exclusively used in Antweight bots (0-124.9kg), I reckon two Supervolts should be enough here. T and Y-connectors have very low HP for their weight, so we almost always use round extenders instead. You could probably stand to make the chassis a bit smaller as well, and if you're using a chassis wedge, make sure you have a bunch of ballasts at the front, about 100kg would do nicely. Search around for Insult to Injury V to see what I'm talking about.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on November 20, 2010, 11:58:35 AM
They are actually Y Extenders. I have 16 razor tips on the Y's. This is because I can get underneath it.
Originally the chassis was smaller but I was having trouble getting everything into the bot. So I opted for a large bot.
Anyway, I beat Emergency so it proves it's at least below average.
EDIT: Got it to work again. Beat Drumbulbee (though I was driving because my AI skills are sucky)
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: NFX on November 20, 2010, 12:04:34 PM
You could actually have the weapons standing inside the drive motors, that's perfectly legal in Stock. You can get away with almost anything. But well done on beating Emergency, that's kind of a builder's first accomplishment.

If you lose the pink battery, you could actually stand to get 4 extra razor tips on there, if you attach the extenders to the DDT like this:

DDT
|____
vvvvv

You could have five razors on each DDT, for a total of 20. And they would hit the opponent at the same time, dealing more damage overall. If you start them from the horizontal position, kinda inside the drive motors and batteries, they would be travelling faster when they make contact with the opponent, thus dealing even more damage. =D

Okey Doke, will comply those things on my updated bot.
I might even get a decal underneath saying: "OFF TO VISIT YOUR MOTHER"

Sounds good. =] If you want to, you could take a look at the latest two bots in my showcase, Halestorm 7 and Death By Purple 3, just for an example of what is possible in this game. If you check out Sage's Tips and Tricks videos, they can really open up realms of possibilities for your future bots.

Or bitmaps :P

True, you can get .bmp decals. But it must be .tga if you want transparency.

I've made a MW Razor spinner, but it tilts at an angle. Want to see?
Also, armoured in DSA.

Raise the motors, give it shiny wheels, and then it will be invertible.

Don't use Y connector, use 2 round ones mounted one on top of the other so weapons hit at the same time.

Tried to but the wheels won't go high enough otherwise, I can't move.

Get rid of the pink and tigthen up the chassis.
And you must be able to make that invertible, try using bigger wheels and raising the motors up with the ctrl button.

Needs more weapons.
Boxing Gloves at back are pointless
Armour?

With the SnS, you should have all your weapons pointing in the same direction your bot's wired to spin when attacking. Hafl those razors are going to do nothing. Sledgehammers are also pretty bad, I'd try Iron Spikes or Maces instead.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on July 30, 2011, 04:38:19 PM
Yeah, I learned recently that hammers are only good for OOTA's in mind.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: NFX on July 30, 2011, 04:42:10 PM
Iron Spikes work just as well. Look at Heaven's Sawmill in BBEANS5. A Sledgehammer and Iron Spike have the same HP, but the Sledgehammer weighs three times as much as the Iron spike.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on July 30, 2011, 04:46:36 PM
All I tend to use are Razors, sometimes Irons, and Hammers on design's that OOTA now. And Maces when I use the EFFE glitch.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: NFX on July 30, 2011, 04:48:57 PM
Hammers are terrible weapons in general, 2 Iron Spikes are much better than one hammer. You can still OOTA with the right design, though.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!

Popup
Don't ever use mini wheels
Don't use 4WD unless it's 4WD HPZ

AW
Don't leave empty chassis space
Use more weapons, you should be able to get 4 razors on it
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy Showcase!
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on July 31, 2011, 10:08:38 AM
Yeah, the mini wheels suck. I might update it, but as a result, it can have DSA.
4 Redbirds < 2 HPZ. Defiantely. But I couldn't fit them.

For some reason, ever since I got Starcore, the baseplate components have been really fussy on where there placed, even if they aren't touching.
I doubt it, I could manage 3 perhaps.

It's weaknesses lie in its terrible pushing power and weak armour.

It's not OP, because the champion can defeat it.
How is it not IRL, that's like saying any horizontal spinner is not IRL. It's really not that devastating.
Here's a full list of weaknesses:

And if you think my weaponry is as bad as it is, look at Last Rites. Do they say Last Rites is not IRL? Ofc, it exists. Sewer Snake can still push the bot about, as can others. It's not unbeatable, as is my bot.

You wouldn't build it IRL because if you did it would be extremely fragile because of how the extenders are attached and how the Irons are attached to the extenders, one decent hit on those irons IRL and they would snap off.

just have 4 irons on the disc (or have 2 spinners with saws (component balance)/2 weapons/w.e) and maybe two ramming weapons, and make the chassis look more clean as if you didnt make a random chassis with snap to grid or something

At least I'm slightly better.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/12179a decent popup.jpg)

2 Stacked Supervolts, 4WD with Shinies, 18 Irons, Snapper2 Wedges, some random caster armour and a plow to trap stuff.

9 irons is far too much for each ddt to handle... the absolute maximum you can put on a popup's ddt is 8 razors per burst motor, even then it starts to get iffy at 6.

rear casters are also useless. move them to the front.

yeah why would you put rear casters in that position, they're not protecting the exposed parts at all

pretty sure your front caster armor doesn't protect the front correctly

He's banned, and you scared me by thinking he was back.

You can ask that elsewhere... by PM or in the chatbox by exemple, this isn't the thread to ask.
