Shield's failcase Stock style
« on: May 01, 2013, 06:00:54 AM »
Alright, so, wasn't quite sure what to make in stock, so made this.

I was trying to build a Nightmare replica but it quickly got out of hand.

Learn from this tutorial at first :
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm

Don't make replicas in stock, and don't build IRL in stock.

As for this bot :
Use only DSA or plastic armour for your bots, stock armours sux anyways, so you will need to attach some components for a more protection of the chassis in stock;
1 black batt is enough to power the whole bot, so get rid of the others;
Don't use ballasts, they just waste weight;
Always make the chassis airtight and the smallest possible;
Always build up to the weight limit (800 for this one);
Protect the wheels more, and you could use a lighter and a smaller wheels;
You need more weapons on this bot, if you want to have a chance;
Get the "Starcore V1" and test your bots vs. the bots from that pack.

But generally, not that bad for a start, listen to the advices, and you will become good in no time, you have some talent.

Yeah, and there you will drop the soap very often.

No one is forcing him, but the original stock game is for an uber stacking/compacting now, we have the DSL for IRL, so your comment is more like a spam.

Instead of being sarcastic maybe you should explain why venko shouldn't give valid advice that is essentially laden with propaganda ? Right now your post isn't helping, and Venko is pretty much right. Next time i will do more than just speaking.

Don't make replicas in stock, and don't build IRL in stock.

Dude, let him choose and build what style he wants. Showcase advice and criticism is not for ordering around people.

And why the heck not? Like Naryar said, let him do what he wants.

OK, the next idiot who does any flaming or insulting in there will be muted as soon as possible.

I don't care if you argue and I already tire of keeping bad posting out of this showcase, so just keep it civil if you want to discuss venko's opinions.

Wow, really?

I was hardly going '**** you dumb *** ur wrong lol'.

It's a nice robot, considering the limitations of stock, Venko tried to turn him off doing stuff like it, and then I'm the one who gets warned?  :ermm:

Your post may not have been very insulting, but all you did was bringing fuel to the fire. How do you think venko and others would have reacted to it ? With more aggression.

You did nothing to add to the conversation, you just attacked another member. We disagree with venko, yes, and he was wrong to post that; hardly a reason to insult him. This kind of posting only stokes emotions and adds agression to arguments, leading to flame wars. THIS is why I do not want posting like this.

Don't play the innocent... because you're not. Now stop posting like that, before I actually ban you.

You still completely disregard context and post more flame bait ? Did you even read what I said and how I explained my mute instead of aggravating other people like you seem to love doing ?

Fine, if you want to play that way... Enjoy your new mute buddy.

At least, I'm the only one with any BUILDING advices here, for now...

P.S. : Stuff that I forgot.
Usually, crop your images only to the bot, and only post for us the armour type and the weight.
When I said "don't build IRL", I just wanted to inform you that 99% of the stock builders around don't build IRL in stock, that was my reason.
If you have serious intentions in stock, the most important thing is to download the "Starcore V1" http://www.starcore.gametechmods.com/download.php?id=SC_AIPackV1.0.zip&url=/ and get owned, only this will lead to a significant improvments of your stock skills.
And one last advice, if a lots of users give you different opinions (even an oposite), to find the truth look for the colourful accounts, don't listen at general to people that registered yestarday and didn't win anything, check who are the last months "Bot Of The Month" winners (the maker of the pic on the front page) for example, who have tournament wins, and other stuff as well...

tl; dr: "90% of the forum knows nothing"

Advice so I don't get muted: I like the bot, but I'm pretty sure you have too many batteries. 1 black and 1 nifty should be enough IIRC, but then again I haven't built anything in stock for almost a year so yeah

actually Venko i'm pretty sure 1 black is borderline for that bot, and that he should get 1 black + 1 nifty.

Shield, you also need some side protection - i suggest ramplates in front of the wheels.

but otherwise all of venk's advice is good. For adding more weapons, add more extenders on your spinner.

This bot will be destroyed, way before it run out of power, so 1 black is OK IMO.

Also, I have a question for Nar :
This showcase - no interest, no one posted;
Venko posted for once a "clean post" - instantly a lots of posts followed (probably seeking for a flame war).

WHY

You are too direct, people aren't ever going to like being told what to do. If you want to avoid flame wars try a different approach.

I asked S.H.I.E.L.D to start this showcase actually cause I seen potential in him from the looks of his AW.

Because overall, we don't like to force newbies into one direction. Posting "no you should not build in this style, but in this other style" is taboo, for a good reason IMO.

I do not know if it was your intention or if your words were to be taken carefully, but it certainly seemed like you were ordering this newb around. So we reacted.

instantly a lots of posts followed (probably seeking for a flame war)

You must be joking... You know how merciless I am on flame wars in showcases. Why would anyone come here to flame people and then promptly get whacked by me ?

Besides, only one of the posters has been flamewar-ish, and he has paid to it.
