Use  round extenders, instead of 90o angle connecters.

Did you know your bot Spinner from the west is a meme at the moment? Anyway, This thing thing needs to use Maces 'n' Irons.

I can't do that because in the editor the disks are spinning REALLY SLOOOOWLY so I can't select anything. When I can get it to work, I will.

Righty-ho, looks good for a first bot.

To stop the spinning, switch tabs, that stops it.

Try to resize the chassis to make it as small as possible, but so the components can fit in.

MW is up to 398.9 (I think), so I'm afraid you'll need to trim down a bit on the weight, but making the chassis smaller will give you that weight.

I'll leave you in the hands of more experienced members, who will most likely tell you how to improve the weapons system and drive.

And is the armour DSA?

1: It didn't. I continued spinning even AFTER I reloaded the bot. I had to reboot the game EVERY TIME
2: Dammit, it was hard enough to fit my stuff in here first
3: Thanks to a suggestion earlier in the thread, it's middleweight now.
4: Steel.

OK.

You know the stuff at the top, i.e Components, Wiring ect, those are tabs. Switch between them, don't close the program. ;) And remov the wheels, that sometimes works for me, put them back on at the end.

When you rebuild the chassis, forget the armour tab. Look Here (https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=DSA)

stop tabbing out of ra2 and it will stop the spinning.

pause button also works if you really need to get out of ra2 for a second without exiting

Why are both Z-Teks spinning the same way?
Make them spin outward in separate directions.

And use shiny wheels for weight (get rid of the front 2 if necessary)

You put the first extender on, so the APs are on the bottom, then put another extender below, and put a razor on that. If using Irons/Maces, you'll need to eFFe them on, but you don't need to worry about that.

Use the end attachment point of a round extender to attach it to the tribar, then use the side connection point of another round extender and attach it to the side attachment point of the first one.

Simples.

It's what's known as the eFFe glitch. If you hover a component over another component that's attached to a motor, spin/fire the motor and THEN attach the component, the component will be floating in space, allowing you to build without other components getting in the way.
Title: Re: The Wakkydude Showcase - FROM THE CREATOR OF SFTW COMES SFTW
Post by: Badger on August 01, 2011, 02:43:55 PM
So here's you're tribar:
We add an extender, but the attachment points (APs) are in the wrong direction...
So we rotate it so the APs are pointing downward:
Now we attach another extender to the bottom and attach a razor to the top:
Now, we rotate the razor on the bottom so that it lets us attach it, and voila! Done!

Razors don't have normals. This means that it doesn't matter what part of the razor hits them, it still does the same damage. In fact, this style is more effective, because you get longer reach and a better ability to knock away opponents.

Title: Re: The Wakkydude Showcase - FROM THE CREATOR OF SFTW COMES SFTW
Post by: NFX on August 01, 2011, 02:59:03 PM
It gives you a greater reach at less weight. Plus Razor Tips have no normals, so they cause damage with whatever part they hit the opponent with. Same for Maces and Iron Spikes.

EDIT: Ninja'd.
Title: Re: The Wakkydude Showcase - FROM THE CREATOR OF SFTW COMES SFTW
Post by: Scorpion on August 01, 2011, 02:59:57 PM
The point of arranging them like that in the first place is so they all hit at the same time, which maximizes damage.

Try to minimise empty space

ONLY USE DSA!!!!!!!!!

You should be able to do it, you can stack irons/maces like that as well and keep it MW.

Try Snapper Loading, it really cuts down on space.

Minimise chassis space, then I think you'll have DSA after changing the chassis.

Otherwise, it'll be a new robot. :(

The only ways I know of minimising it are to
1: Make it smaller which results in redoing the whole bot.
2: Filling in the gaps which adds MORE weight (NO anti-ballasts)

Also, DSA is apparently the same weight as aluminium. He's still heavyweight when he's PLASTIC.

Reducing chassis space, by making the insides as efficient as possible then shrinking the chassis to fit snugly around it.

Congrats on beating Emergency, but put the Z Tek's in the shell and stack. You probably have a lot more weight avalible.
And if those front wheels aren't on axle mounts, there pointless. HS's don't need too much speed.
Title: Re: The Wakkydude Showcase - NOW WITH VIDEOS
Post by: Badger on August 03, 2011, 01:43:11 PM
Yeah, NEXT STEPS:
Remove front wheels
Move main wheels to middle, use shinies
Shrink chassis
Change Ztecs to HPZtecs
Title: Re: The Wakkydude Showcase - NOW WITH VIDEOS
Post by: wakkydude on August 03, 2011, 01:45:51 PM
I'll be able to do all that, but a little question first: Why do people say "make the chassis fit around the components" when it just erases EVERYTHING first? I'll make a separate version to try and shrink it for now.

Also, so I'll have to use casters now? The wheels are only on axle mounts.
Title: Re: The Wakkydude Showcase - NOW WITH VIDEOS
Post by: Badger on August 03, 2011, 01:47:39 PM
Because a chassis takes up weight.

Make a tiny chassis and the largest chassis you can, don't add any components, see the difference. ;)

And no, no casters or anything. just let the front of the bot drag along the floor. IF you have weight, you can attach a plow and use that.

They generally do for the frontal protection and wedges, but even they benefit from chassis shrinking.

I'll give you an example of what you can come up with if you take the time to shrink the chassis around the components, and learn glitches such as eFFeing and Snapper Loading.

You can really elevate your bots' ability if you're willing to take on good advice, even if it seems counterintuitive.

This.
Starting off with a smaller chassis, IMO, is the best way to go.
Provided, you then build your whole robot off a Snapper or two.

I'm going to post screenshots later, but REVISION 2 has 2 MORE BLACK BATTERIES to utilise all the empty chassis size, casters, and the higher power Z-TECS. I'm making a 2nd version to experiment with just how small a chassis I CAN use for this robot.

HW -> 2 Blacks

But of course, it depends on the build.

1 black could help you survive about 2 1/2 minutes with 4 HPZ's. A nifty could boost this to about 4.

Nifty's are the best give back weight wise.
Pinks = 100
Nifty = 400
Black = 500

I think so.

Finish the MW, HWs are much more difficult.

Badger's right here. My HW popups are awful. Try and make some MW popups maybe. Or a design that uses wedges.

HW HS normally require 2 Blacks. And you should really learn Snapper Loading if you want to build HS effectively, it's one of the most important glitches you can use to make as much weight as possible for weaponry.

NO!!!!

Matches are only 3 mins long, and most last less than 2.

Every MW HS uses either 1 black or, at a stretch, 1 nifty. Preferably 1 black.

Just a question but when I snapper load with Snapper II's, my motors get very flimsy and wobble. Is there a suitable way to fix this.

Not really, that's just as a result of their low torque. If you mount them on a Snapper2 or a Servo, then there's much less vibration involved. But what you can do is try to have the axis of rotation of the SnapperII and the axis of rotation of the weapon motors perpendicular to each other.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

Yeah, I overcompensated a bit. The casters made it UNDRIVEABLE, so I brought back the front wheels, changed them to shinies, and lowered the battery count to 2.

FUN FACT:

The only part of this bot that has never been modified is the snappers.

Remove front wheels, move other wheels to middle

Remove 1 black

Shrink chassis

Put weapons on 1 baseplate anchor, with extenders efficiently connecting them

Add Snowplough on said extenders via another extender

in that order.

The pinks aren't necessary, I'd remove them. And fitting the chassis around your components is a good habit to get into. But if you rotate the Snappers so the HPZ are inside the chassis for added protection.

It can't move, those wheels are on axle mounts. Put them on RADs, and put them so the wheels are in the middle of the bot.

Put the HPzs on baseplate anchors

make the chassis EVEN smaller (Height wise as well)

USE SHINIES!

You should position the battery between the RADs instead of on top of them. Then you can make the chassis lower, and move the BA's back as close to the RADs as you can.

Use 90 Degree Baseplate Anchors, mounted RIGHT at the edge of the chassis. Use the Ctrl button to raise them off the ground, and have them pointing out of the chassis edge. You should then be able to attach the HPZ's directly to them if you get the position right.

There's only one way for me to get better - and that's by getting constructive criticism and using it to help improve my bot creation. This has been happening for 9 pages, with helpful people pointing out my flaws and helping me fix them. Stop it. Not everyone has been in the amount of tournaments you have.

These are two abandoned bot ideas, the first one was a lightweight flipper - the firestorm kind (flips from the inside), that used razor tips instead of a wedge. Scrapped because it's only JUST above stock level. Carousel of doom is the 2nd one, and it's problem is that once you start it spinning, all control of the bot is lost. It is quite deadly though. If any of you think they are worthy of being proper bots and not just scrapped concepts, just tell me.

Hmm, seemed like that to me. It just seemed like something that couldn't take down anything form any advanced AI packs, say starcore. Now I think about it, it's not THAT awful. When fighting EMERGENCY he gets tossed around like CRAZY, the only reason I removed his flippers was pretty much luck, as I didn't attack them, I attacked the sides and back (when I could GET to them)

They're great until you try to steer. Then you overcompensate, try to turn back to where you were, overcompensate and it JUST KEEPS HAPPENING
AI the bots then :P

I play RA2 to fight bots, not just make them. When I play the "Team HQ" mode, I often use the built-in bots because I just want to PLAY, not faff around with the (VERY FIDDLY) bot lab.

New bot coming either TODAY, or AFTER 15th August. Definitely NOT between those times. It's a new version of WoD, with MOAR SPIKES and an actual theme.

A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES:

DON'T ask me to make it smaller, THE SIZE IS STILL MY NO 1 PRIORITY (but DO tell me if it doesn't need shrinking)
It's lightweight, hoping to stay like that
It's only just above stock level.
It's not that good in my opinion, but it passed the EMERGENCY test I guess and it's better than WoD.

It's not too bad, but I think you would be better with just a snapper 2 and 3 20cm's for extender work. Then you can get faster drive.

Also it would benefit from having a smaller chassis. :trollface

z-tecs don't fit currently (I've tried, might be wrong), they probably WOULDN'T fit if it was smaller. I am working on that though.

No, seriously... i'm just mocking you because after the argument with Inf you seem so oversensitive about drama in your own thread that you set up posting rules in your thread. Thinking everyone will follow them.

This practice tends to end in drama. I already remember Venko doing it, and it's showcase was a master place of drama and trolling, Smashy did it recently and it failed. Plus, your showcase title doesn't help at all on the pointless drama bait.

I will stop mocking you now, but you need to be a bit less overreactive. Your job is to keep a clean showcase and delete spam if it is posted, not create more even if it is not wanted.

A more constructive attitude is removing the pointless posts.

Edit: And now there is even more flaming in your showcase, and heck you even feed it by overreacting.

Needs a nifty as has been said before and if you want, you can get a blue snapper in there and attach everything onto it with t-connectors or preferably, extenders for that little bit of extra speed (debatable)

If you have the weight, add a snowplow and/or upgrade to irons (or maces).

btw, raise the motor up so the wheels are higher.
And re-designing the chassis is very important, mould the chassis around the components, not the other way.

If you made it higher, the nifty would fit. Trust me, it really helps. Also, you kinda need a HPz there. And if you raise the RADs you may be able to get it invertible.

And nice quick update, there. ;)

Nifty replacing the black or there with the black? I cannot find the space to fit one currently UNLESS you mean replacing or you can correct me on this.

Again, I would like to add snowplows, but it seems a little... spaceless. Again, if you can find the space, please correct me.

UNLESS I add a slot for it on the front of the chassis... maybe.

Oh, and in the wise words of the engineer, "Gotta move that gear up!" I'll be right on that one.

It gives me no indication that my new chassis is actually bigger, then it refuses to fit stuff that CLEARLY HAS SPACE AROUND IT, and then after ages of toiling around with the batteries, the BASEPLATE ANCHOR FOR THE SNOWPLOW WON'T FIT

The minimum chassis height you need for this bot is three "clicks" tall, which is when the slider moves up from the lowest level by three pixels. You need a keen eye to do this properly, but then the Nifty will just fit in. What you can also do is stack the Control Board into the Nifty, but this does take quite a bit of trial and error. Because of the Snowplow's collision mesh, though, if you try to attach it to a Baseplate anchor pointing directly out of the chassis, it won't work. You'd need a 20cm extender to make it work.

Keep in mind you can only do this if you mount the HP Z-tek on a baseplate or on a SnapperII. The SnapperII option is a bit better because you can also mount the snowplow on the Snapper. If you'd like to keep the HP Z-tek as it is, the chassis does need to be 5 clicks up.

For invertibility, 4 clicks up for the RADs should be good. Normally I use 3 clicks, but one higher works just as well and helps compensate for the bit of tribar sticking up through the top of the chassis. You can stack the CB inside the HP Z-tek (has to be raised 7 clicks; it should look like it's just under the mini-hexagon holding the axle), Nifty, or the SnapperII (possibly just on top of or under the Snapper, though you may have to snapper load).

I have the feeling I wouldn't be able to do this on my own. Anyone up for some skype guiding for this?

Huh? You mean *ss blasphemy, the one who not only lamely jacked the name of the great and marvelous ArisenBlasphemy, but also signed up with a name against the no-swearing rules and completely ignored my PM about it?

Typical
I'm not sure how you ended up here

Try and shrink the chassis. Please don't kill me, it's a pain but it helps a lot.

I may be wrong on this, but would 4WD and less weapons be better?

get rid of those middle extenders, any VS will take those weapons off in 3 seconds.
