Title: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Ben Purse on December 31, 2010, 06:31:04 PM
I have finally got around to making a stock case after really only playing DSL since I had it.
Here is my first bot Keritgo

Can you please finish adding spikes to your incomplete rack, rather than being uuuuuuuuunnnnnndddddeeeeerrrrrwwwweeeiiiigggghhhhhtttttt ?

Is this better?

I used T connecters because some Iron Spikes went to the back of the extender but T connecters make a complete rack.

Post by: GoldenFox93 on December 31, 2010, 07:13:17 PM
I'd suggest removing the pole spike. It's doing nothing, and keeps opponents away from the Irons- those are what you want to be hitting the opponent with. Also, try using black or red bars. They're lighter, stronger, and you'll be able to fit far more spikes on.
Title: Re: Purse`s Highly Failed Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on December 31, 2010, 07:13:34 PM
No, you use the attachment point at the other end to make the round extenders face the same way. You can get twice the amount of irons on for much less extender weight.

Title: Re: Purse`s Highly Failed Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on December 31, 2010, 07:23:01 PM
Yes, that is better. That's the way most static ramming racks are arranged. If you remove the plow and its attachment from the back, you'd have enough weight for a couple more irons on the front. It's unlikely that you'll be attacked from the back, unless it's a rumble.

Not terribly bad. Swap the SnapperII for a DDT to get a better wedge, though. And 4 razors is a little bit low on a MW, in my opinion. 6 or 8 would be preferable.

uuuuuuuuunnnnnndddddeeeeerrrrrwwwweeeiiiigggghhhhhtttttt AGAIN.

Oh, and I fixed your thread name. This building level is above average for a new showcase, and average in overall, so no need to flagellate yourself.

Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Naryar on December 31, 2010, 08:37:38 PM
Huge amounts of empty space aren't going to help.

9 razors on a single DDT is also too much.
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on December 31, 2010, 08:38:29 PM
9 razors is a bit much for one DDT. Try 2 DDT's, with 4 razors on each arm. And Nar's right on the space front(ier).

Extend the chassis until it does. Also, this needs 2 blacks.

But then it will be a heavyweight and I will have empty space.

You could try your hand at the Psycolone Popup Challenge, it's a good exercise in chassis space management.

Is their any link to that? I would like to try it.

There's not really a link that I know of, but the idea is to make a MW popup with 2 Blacks, 2 HP Z-Teks with rubber wheels, 3 DDT motors, 8 razors and DSA Armour.

This needs to be invertible, and the discs are too large for it to be invertible.

Try to get wedges and use shiny hub wheels.

Also, you might want to learn the 3 basics: Axle load, snapper load and battery stacking, just in case you might need them in future builds.

use shiny hub wheels.

Judging the size of the chassis, what about N-12's?
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on January 01, 2011, 07:15:12 AM
N-12's look cool, but suck. Always use shinies, they're much lower weight than all other wheels. If you want a low ground clearance/better wedges, then use rubbers. If you're wanting an invertible HS or something similar, use grannies.

6 Razors.
I also have some questions about my bot building.
1) Should I stay at Starcore or go To Inf`s or Pys`s AI Packs for different designs?
2) Who do I build like on this forum?
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on January 01, 2011, 05:11:48 PM
I'm wondering how many batteries it has, and what armour it is as well.

1) Inf and Pys' AI packs are much harder than Starcore, but I think Starcore has more different designs. Not sure, though.
2) I'm not sure who you build like, really, it's a fairly generic rookie building style. If you lurk around and look at the setups of some bots, you should pick up some new ideas.

It has one batt and DSA armour like all bots i make.
Also what does generic mean?
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Scorpion on January 01, 2011, 05:18:11 PM
Generic means dull, boring, sh** basically, it was an incredibly insulting thing for NFX to say and I think you should hate on him for it as it's one of the most horrible things you can say to anbody.

Anyway, that bot's got faaar to much empty space to be any good.
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on January 01, 2011, 06:09:29 PM
I didn't mean anything bad by it, I just meant that it was a fairly newcomer style. He is improving, he's learning, but he's not quite there yet, if you get my drift. If he gets rid of the unnecessary empty space, that might make his bots look a bit better.

Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on January 01, 2011, 06:36:20 PM
That's actually not that bad. First thing you'd want to do is rotate the first round extenders 90 degrees, so the other one attaches directly below it. And eFFe them on (hover them over the attachment point, spin the motor, then click to attach) so you can get the razors hitting the opponent at the same time. That should considerably increase your damage on this bot.

Use a snapper, and rotate the Razorz.
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase

And it helps when you turn ALL of the extenders 90 degrees, not just one set.

And sparkles is pretty much right.

Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Sparkey98 on January 01, 2011, 07:10:55 PM
In the front, you gotta change the shape of your chassis, shape it how I did (yes I messed up the weight in the splash)
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: NFX on January 01, 2011, 07:16:23 PM
I'm not certain a Snapper would work here without dropping to a Nifty. Which would require a chassis a bit taller than this one, just to point out. And I imagine the weaponry would wobble quite a lot and affect turning somewhat, if Death By Purple 3's anything to go by.

IMO it would do alot better with a snapper because it would make the chassis smaller.

Well, not necessarily.  You could go the Dark July route.

Priority #1 here should be getting a Supervolt IMO.  Then you can use the DDT's as flippers in an emergency... I guess... though the wedges will probably be broken by the time all the spikes are gone.  In which case Snapper2's might be better.

This is how you rebuild TE:

It will probably be rebuilt again when we're done with ReStocked.

A general rule for bursted setups: If you have a snapper for burst enhancement, put as much stuff on it as possible (drive, weapons, etc) so as to not waste weight. If your setup's heavier than a regular baseplate setup, then it's not worth bursting.

Poker's looking good, though. :D

small batts are sh**.
grannies are pretty useless here.
you don't need a wedge on a stock LW hammer. (why is there a caster when you have a wedge?????)
needs more razors

Nah Redbird is good on LW hammer, allows you to push around and trap HS.

Upgraded.

Supervolt, thing at the back is a stabiliser.
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Badger on October 13, 2016, 10:24:44 PM
that extender work looks horrendously inefficient. You should be able to get RADs and 2 plots if you downgrade to 2 or 3 razors, which is all you need TBH, especially with a snapper2.

140 cm extender would be good here for the hammer and stabilizer, only weighs 5kg so it should net you some weight.

Decided to scrap Scrabbler since I can't get it to be effective or stable even with 140s.

Here's something unnamed that may be able to work better with a little improvement, thinking of maybe seeing if I can before a nifty-controlboard stack so I can shrink the chassis abit and maybe be able to fit shinies on it.

DSA,1 Nifty

I don't think a Nifty's enough for this. Try a supervolt so you wouldn't be required to stack. The outer razors don't need those extenders. Irons are suitable replacements but the inner razors are probably fine as is.

Cool stuff. Keep it up.

Post by: Badger on October 15, 2016, 11:29:55 AM
crop your screenshots nigga

put shinies on that thing, you need more than 4 razors on a side hammer 100% else you're gonna have a bad time vs HS. I dunno if this kinda design is even viable for LW, sidehammers need too much. They need enough weaponry to deal with HS, wedges so they dont insta-lose to gutrippers/popup, they need 2 bursts, they need enough battery power and really you need at least redbirds for drive.

You only need a nifty for that. And those katanas prevent your weapon from hitting anything.

Widen your stabilizers for sure. Does it have long fights? If you don't see long fights, experiment with a nifty and upgrade the weapon motor.

Put your katanas at an angle so stuff can actually reach the spinner. It might also be a good idea to move the RADs next to the battery, since you have a really narrow wheelbase there. Looking decent overall, though

Do this instead of using angle mounts. Since you're so desperate for weight, you could also try this:
to attach the katanas. I think its worth having the katanas over the extender+razor setup personally. Also, try to make sure your weapons spin as close to the floor as possible, so your VS can deal with popups and other low gutrippers.

Now that you got that down, your next step is to try to find the best extender setup so that your drive is flush against the chassis. Pretty sure you don't need the second 20cm to do that. Then turn your weapon extenders a bit so all razors hit at the same time.

You could probably work on rebuilding the chassis so the wedge is shallower. Try turning the black around so the snapper and the wedge DDT can be pushed further back.

394.3, that other extender is there so that the wheels can touch the ground.

just use the other AP on the blue snapper and put the t extender on it, then you don't have an exposed extender on the top.

Attach the extenders horizontally so that all the razors hit at once. here, like this:

rotate the z-teks so the flat part is touching the ground, then you can change the wheels out for shinies or rubbers

And you want the front of your popup to be as wide and shallow as possible. Right now its super narrow, so its gonna get rekt by HS.

Rammer

Raise the snapper on the rammer so it becomes invertible. You could also attach the second rack to the other AP so that the weapons can be all irons.

As for the FS, it's just a matter of wanting too many things on a LW. Either you give up the wedge, the weapons, or the bursted setup. Too little weight dedicated to a thing just makes it a waste of weight.

i know you don't wna to hear this, but you should start stacking the cb in the battery. saves weight + makes it easier to be invertible
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Badger on December 03, 2016, 06:49:12 AM
Both of those LWs are too thin to be able to do anything, tbh. You should usually favour a wide chassis to a long chassis
Title: Re: Purse`s Stock Showcase
Post by: Meganerdbomb on December 03, 2016, 02:57:37 PM
For the FS. You only need a redbird at max for the weapon motor (weapon speed is less important in a FS), and you should only need razors for the weapon. Make the chassis wide instead of long and place the Rads on the side of the battery instead of in front, Also mount them horizontally instead of vertically so you can center them in the chassis, then stack the weapon motor into the chassis to makenthe bot invertable.

rammer really doesn't need a snapper. just stick two anchors in there and save about 10kg, enough for HPZ's.

FS is far too narrow, and as what what said:
