Lemonism's stock showcase
« on: July 08, 2013, 06:58:50 AM »
Hey everyone, I'm new here, and I read somewhere that starting a showcase was a good idea for a newbie, so that's what I'm doing. I've no idea how all of this works so forgive me if I get something wrong.
First bot, called Some Kind of Blue.

Insides:

Under the disk is a servo. I really hope that worked, and if it did then thanks for your time.

newbie my ass that thing looks pretty cool

Next step would be replacing that disk with 2 extenders (and 2 more to maintain the position of the plow). That would mean moving the servo slightly off-center, but that means you could place the servo and Snapper2 side by side and save chassis weight.

but seriously that's pretty good for a first bot
Clash Cubes 1 - Grey Matter (Runner-Up)
King of Karnage - Sideshow Freak (Runner-Up, Best Engineered)
Rust In Pieces - Paper Cut 3 (Grand Champion, Most Dangerous Bot)
Wheely Tag Tournament - Ion Thruster (Grand Champion, along with Ounces' DiSemboweLment)
UK vs USA - Dark Striker (Grand Champion)
Rust In Pieces 2 - Claymore (Runner-Up, Favourite Bot)
BBEANS 6 - Infection 4 (Runner-Up)
RA2 Team Championships - Serious Business, Skeksis (Runner-Up, along with Scrappy, S_M, and Badnik)
RA2 Team Championships 2 - The Other Stig (Runner-Up, along with Scrappy, S_M, Badnik, 090901, and R1885)

Robo Zone 2 - Dipper (4th place, Survival Champion, & Best Axle Bot)
ARBBC - The Covenant (3rd place, BW Rumble Winner, Most Feared BW)

Looks incredibly solid for a newbie. Might save weight if you removed the chassis wedge and made it more box-like, so you can swap out your drive motors.

You should have enough weight to upgrade to HP z-teks for drive then.

He needs a larger chassis to fit HP-ZTeks.

Alright, I've been trying to use extenders instead of the disk, like Pwnator said, and haven't been successful yet. Any chance you could describe more what you mean? Also, thanks for the other feedback, I will try these out as well.

I forgot to mention. That setup might require some axle loading (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=7903.0), but here's what it should look like:

[Edit] Turns out you don't need axle loading, but yeah it's still a neat trick.

Axle-Loading probably won't be needed, I believe you can eFFe with servos?

Edit: Ninja'd.

Using a servo and disc in that way is actually really clever. Cool plow skin as well!

One thing to realize about FS (face spinners, what you have built) is that they don't actually grind the front of the opposing robot but rather the undersides. At least, they should for maximum damage potential. So the upside down plow is actually hindering this performance.

Once you get it optimized for underside gut ripping, remember to rotate the razor tips so that one edge is perpendicular to the edge of the disc. This gives more chance of the razor hitting the underside of the opponent.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Newer version. I built this before Sage's post, so none of those things are done yet, but I will try and add these things.

And insides:

I removed the chassis wedge, used Pwnator's extender layout and swapped the normal Z-teks for hp ones. The chassis is not quite perfect but I thought i would show you anyway.
Welcome to the forums, btw :D
Thanks :)

I've angled the spinners upwards to try and help with gut ripping, but I didn't know what to replace the plow with. Any thoughts?

Have you heard about/installed any AI packs?
I have Starcore, v3 i think, but i haven't tried this bot out against them yet.
Edit:
Cool plow skin as well!
I don't remember where I got it but it isn't mine I'm afraid.

Pah, I don't think you're entirely new. You've done well by lurking. Welcome.

Anyway, you could replace it with a ramplate or lawnmower blade, unless you don't have the weight. I could also recommend using maces instead of razors.
I... I think I've quit. Lurking and posting where I feel it's needed from time to time. I was never particularly good, but I tried. Never really succeeding, but trying all the same.

I didn't have the weight for a ramplate I think, but i did try maces

Sorry, i switched to maces before i could read your reply and forgot the weight, I think it was between 360 and 370.
Also, are you lurking? :P
I have been lurking a bit, yes, but not too long really. Mostly I read the beetlebros site.
Edit: weight of the one with maces is 397.7

I tried with razors again but with the plow on right side up this time, so that it wouldn't stop it from gut ripping, as Sage said.

Weight: 391.7
