FM's Showcase
« on: January 15, 2012, 10:02:41 PM »
Weell, I actually made one decent Middleweight Spinner bot and I thought I could improve it by getting advice on the forums. I think it's lacking, but it does eliminate most middleweight bots with ease. With the exception of rammers. I have tried DSL, but I'm not too good at it.

Sooo here it is!

2 Supervolts
DSA Armor
2 Z-Tek

Why the Samurai Swords?
Also, your chassis is a little too tall.

Yeah I messed up on the height. And the samurai swords are to keep it's distance away and i thought it would be useful since I could put 2 on each extender. Also, It helps to fight robots with low height. Also, when I fire up the motor for the spinner, the robot tends to flick itself to the left a little.

*way too tall

you should lower the chassis to minimum height (slide the height slider all the way to the bottom, then move it up 5 notches, if you can put a hpz in there, but not a green snapper2 vertically, then you have achieved optimum height)

round chastises tend to suck also, just adjust the chassis so it fits only the components it needs to (i.e. don't have a chassis so large it can fit a 40 dinosaurs in)

weapons with normals aren't very good on spinners, use iron spikes, razors or maces, be warned that razors have low hp, but are very light if you need to save weight, so instead of 6 samurai swords, you can have 12 razors, or about 10 irons/maces

(you might also want to stack those batteries, which is covered in the url links above  ;) )
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

I tried stacking the supervolts, but it was too frustrating. And yeah, I'll do a redo. And also, the samurai swords are very prone to being damaged, so I don't really know about razors.

normally people try to stay away from fragile and light weapons on spinners because they can be destroyed easily by other bots and cause imbalance, making for mauler dances, but razors do a bit more damage than irons / maces and are vary light so you can attach more of them than the 10 kg weapons

if you decide not to use razors you can use

maces, protect the extenders holding the weapons on better but are harder to attach, and have only 0.5 piercing and concussion, not as much as the other weapons, and have 1000 hp, just like all the weapons except razors

or

irons, a balance between razors and irons, the extenders are easier to be attacked, have 1000 hp, and do more damage than maces but not as much as razors

Well I was going to use the irons but then I was like, I'm making a new one, so I did. Thing is, what about axes? Because I think I'm going to replace them.

2 Red Birds
5 Niftys
1 HP Z Tek
DSA Armor

Basically a redo of the Ying Yang. But it's top is very vulnerable. Especially in Hexagon. In 2 or more hits from the hammer in the arena, it's completely disarmed.

Axes are really only good if used on rammers and pokers.  For this, I would recommend maces.  Also, it doesn't need that much battery power; 1 Supervolt will power this fine.

And Trinity SnS.

Protip:  The tribar collides with a much smaller area than it appears... it will only break if you hit the exact center or the far tips.  This makes it extremely difficult to knock off until all the weapons on it are gone.  That, combined with its light weight and large size makes it superior to discs in almost every way.  Discs are really only used on vertical spinners where you usually need a smaller diameter weapon.

Long story short, the weapon won't break as quickly in the Octagon (you meant Octagon right, not Hexagon?) if you use a tribar.

Build to weight limit, and get lighter extender work. Round extenders are your friends.

Thanks for the tips guys, also, how would I know where the connectors on the round extenders are? Because when I put them on, they usually are on a different side. So I have to guess how much I have to rotate it.

Each rotation of the extender corresponds to 10 degrees- so 9 rotations for 90 etc. In some situations using the opposite attachment point on the other end of the extender can rotate it 180 degrees, if you get what I mean. If not, someone better at explaining can do it :P

If you go search for Nightcracker's move pixel then you can rotate (and even stack) a lot easier.

You need a good eye to rotate round extenders, but if you look closely, the components don't rotate smoothly. They turn in "jumps" of 10 degrees each time, so 9 "jumps" would be 90 degrees, and thus perpendicular. 18 "jumps" would point it facing the other way. I find it helps if you do it in groups of three "jumps" each time, there's less chance of losing count that way. But round extenders will save you a lot of weight, and allow you to use it on more useful things, such as weapons or battery power.

Yeah I just figured out you can just use a different attach point. But I'm having a major problem with the bot I'm working on. Turns out I cant place parts at a certain distance ? Or am I doing it wrong? Because I need to protect the extenders and since I can't I end up losing 1/3 or more of my weapon in most matches.

You need to be a bit more specific, do you mean you can't attach a component at a certain angle, or you can't attach any component there at all? If it's the first, that's just because of the collision mesh, something you can't get around, without hax mode, which is not approved of in regular Stock building.

If it's the second, then it'll be the Rule of 7, an aspect of the game mechanics that doesn't allow you to attach more than 7 components in a row. The only way around it is BFE, which is also not approved of.

Why can't it let you attach 7 in a row? I might have to redo it again.

I think it was to prevent it from lagging, I'm not too sure. It's just a part of the game mechanics, that we can't do anything about unless we either learn BFE, or how to dismantle the .exe, which nobody has managed to do yet.

Ok thanks. Anyways, I need ideas for parts I can put on my bot so I can reach the weight limit. I tried spikes, but they're useless on spinners.

EDIT - Ok, done with my new bot.
