DarkMatterGaming's (Probably Terrible) Showcase
« on: June 23, 2015, 02:44:38 PM »
Well, gotta start somewhere... Hello and welcome to my (in all likelihood) pretty terrible showcase. I'm only willing to show one bot right now (even though I have 2 screenshotted and everything) mostly to show everyone my... baseline, I suppose.

This... is Daydreamer.

The design is (obviously) based off one of my favorite robots, Nightmare.

The beam extending out into the weapon is one big beam, something I'll have to edit later. Additionally, it has no srimech and runs just as bad as Nightmare upsidedown.

The motors are currently programmed to attempt flipping the opponent.

Overall, things I see that I need to work on:

  • Lower Weapon (possibly)
  • Shrink chassis size down a tad
  • Insert srimech/make running upsidedown not a death sentence

Hope I can get some good advice from you guys! God knows I need it...
If it can have a spinner, put one on there.

hey welcome to the forums :)

For most new members we recommend first checking out this guide made by Clickbeetle, it's basically RA2 101.
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm
It shows a lot of practical building techniques.
And if you haven't yet, I'd check out the DSL or Ironforce mods as well if I were you. You may find those suit your liking more, I for one prefer them.

For this bot, good call using the High power Z-teks (HPZs). They are the most powerful motors in stock RA2 for their weight. I can tell you alot of specific things for this, but I think you'll probably learn more just by reading that great tutorial.

glad to have you around :)
ALERT- Another WS coming up...
voted best bot builder two times and counting babayy. the best ra2 builder who has never won an actual tournament match
ReiAI pack for Ironforge

The problem with competitive IRL in RA2
I'm fine with hugging reier

Actually... all of them are HPZs.

I did actually download Ironforge before I made my account, and I should probably get to DSL too...

Anyway, thank you!

EDIT: Misreading! Yay!

blades are bad in stock. replace them with iron spikes. maybe with a smaller disc ?

you don't need 4WD on this. you don't need unpowered wheels in general. remove the front wheels and use plows/ramplates/weapons as stabilizers.

use the round extenders they are better (lighter) than the square ones for the same strength, they're just a tiny bit harder to use.

you can remove the Nifty, a black battery is enough.

If you plan on making it into a full 800 kg hw 4 wd (all powered of course) is fine and is probably the best option

you can remove the Supervolt, a black battery is enough.
uhhh Nar supervolts and black batteries are the same thing  :dumb)

Oh man, thanks for all the replies! Sorry I wasn't able to get back sooner, my part of NJ kinda sorta got hit like by a huge storm and the power was out for 32 hours.

I'll modify Daydreamer once I get some spare time, thanks everyone!
