Hello GTM and all the users here! I literally just joined the forums about 10 minutes ago, and I guess you'll be calling me Fracture from now on. Here's some stuff about me:
- I got interested in robot combat at about 8 years of age when watching Robot Wars. My favourite bot was Dominator 2, and my least favourite was Pussycat; I think Pussycat just randomly beat Dominator once or something and that's why I didn't like it. Nowadays I don't watch it, and there's really no favourites for me.
- I first got Robot Wars: Extreme Destruction for the PC because it seemed like a good game. Later I found Robot Arena 2, which seems a lot better, and realistic.
- I'm from Canada, so don't start raging at me if I say centre instead of center or colour instead of color. :P
- I've been playing RA2 for about half a year now, probably less. I started about a year ago but obviously I haven't been playing full time since then. At the moment I play about 5-30 minutes of RA2 per day, which I'm not sure would count as just right or lower than average.
- So far I've only built Stock and I'm not bad at it, if I may say so myself. Really, I've been looking at some bots here so I know what level I'm at. I think I'd like DSL very much if I tried it, but I'm weird and won't. Dunno if I'm just lazy, scared, or whatever.
- I'm also weird because I don't use AI parts. Yeah, kinda puts a damper on my building without the Snapper II, but whatever. Same reasons as for why I haven't tried DSL.
- Again, also weird because I'm still staying in my little corner of building LWs and occasionally AWs. No HWs or MWs that I've actually worked hard on so far. Less options means less likely to build a bad robot, right? Also it doesn't take as long. :P
Anyway at this point I'm not sure how dead or alive this forum is, but hopefully I can get some good criticism in my showcase so I can become a better builder. I've been on a few other forums, but holy crap there's a lot of posting features here. I'm talking marquees, smileys, spoilers, insert FLASH?! And a BUNCH of profile customization too; I'm just used to an avatar and a signature. :rage Also I have no idea what reputation is.
Anyway I guess I'll see you guys on the rest of the forums, it seems pretty friendly here! (I kinda want the post verification to go away though T_T)
Hey, the last two aren't too bad!*bows back* not sure if FOTEPX is just pure nonsense or an acronym though. xD
And since I didn't get chance to say it before, Welcome.
May I also add, badass name you got there. *bows*
Well at least you built up to the weight limit on your first bots :PThanks! So would it be a good thing if I'm following in your footsteps? :o
As for you new bot, looks very nice and actually looks like one of my first bots.

Only thing I suggest is maybe get rid of a couple of razors and get a black or something else, but it really is fine as is. Good job and stick around, you've already impressed me.
That actually doesn't look too bad, I reckon. I think if your MW and HW bots are of a similar standard, you might be able to hold your ground in Starcore V1.Just v1? D: That's depressing.
Welcome to forums Fracture! :welcomeWow you guys have a smiley for everything, don't you?
I lol-ed at the first bot. XDSHUT UP IT BEAT EMERGENCY AFTER 8 TRIES >:O (that was my biggest achievement back then, lol)
Welcome to the forums :D
You improvements look good so far. Hope to see more of your bots.
Nice bot there, excellent for a first showcased bot.Yeah, it's like that feeling when you have a buttload of homework to do...sometimes you just keep playing RA2 or something else, because you're either too lazy and/or you're kind of scared of doing all of it, in a way. I'll get to it sooner or later.
You do really need the snapper II at the very least though, in heavier bots they are VERY usefull.
I'd also highly recomend you do get DSL aswell, it's teh boss.
I'm also happy to hear you speak Chinese, is the dialect Mandarin?Yayuhzz.
That popup is awesome, better than any of my Stock popups for sure. Welcome to the forums. Thanks!
I never thought about making the chassis T-Shaped in a LW pop-up. Though it is less powerful than a DDT and regular z-teks are overkill for drive on LW. Use RedBirds or RADs and try to fit a DDT and it would be a pretty good pop-up.Blehh I don't wanna waste 14 extra kg on a black.
:welcome(see reply 6 quotes up)
The first one looks like Omnivore's slightly stupid and overweight cousin. :Plul, though I don't know what Omnivore looks like.
I'm lovin the LW popup though.
DP is double post. TP is triple post, etc.Oh, okay. I thought it meant Don't Panic or something. xD
Type in the Quick reply to avoid that, I also have my posts glitch up if they are too huge in the reply page.I LOVE YOU.
Keep all of 'em! They all look good! If you are going to attach stuff in the "not cool way" still rotate them so they are paralle to the ground instead of perpendicular to it.
That looks seriously good for a newcomer. I can see you becoming a real strong builder pretty soon.Yay I'm a good person. :P
If you go to Plastic and have a razor on the innermost attachment point, that should give you a bit more weaponry than a normal 6-mace HS, and I think they make a roughly straight line between them, so they should all hit the opponent at the same time, dealing more damage. It becomes REALLY unstable then. As in it flies in the air and I can't drive at all. :P
Just one thing I would point out, if you have 8 or 7 maces on a tribar, it will be seriously unbalanced. 6 maces seems good at this stage, but attach them the "not cool" way, to save a bit of weight, and keep the extenders better protected. Thanks, probably the best advice I've received so far.
Someone please link this guy to the place where you download RA2 V1.4 Whilst I find Starcore 3.I'm guessing v1.4 = RA2 with AI parts unlocked?
EDIT: Starcore 3: http://www.starcore.gametechmods.com/download.php?id=StarcoreAIPackV3.rar&url=/ (http://www.starcore.gametechmods.com/download.php?id=StarcoreAIPackV3.rar&url=/)
On the LW Crawler, if you rotated the motors 90 degrees and had them facing away from each other, you could wire it like an SnS and that'd be quite a tough opponent, I reckon.
For the pop-up:
-Use normal Z-Teks.
-Take off the ramplate and castor armor.
-Try to fit in a DDT.
-Use irons, not razors.

Erm...I'd rather not have an armourless popup in a division where about 70% of the bots are HS...

Haven't seen this kind of HS in ages. Great job.Yes, everyone has there own signature robot.
I don't think this is gonna be your signature bot, though. You can find that our signature bots are on the heavier weight classes. Which is which is why Sage doesn't have any LWs nor MWs on his sig. :P

if you stack the cb into the black, you can get that third iron and make it even better
can it all be fit inside of the Supervolt or does it have a side or two sticking out of the battery?

I'm going to make a communism joke. It'll be in a while, because I have school. But I'll make one.
Nobody will stop me.
Awesome bot. How is it against popups though?
Also you should try lowering the top spinner to make it invertible, and see if it's still as good.
In.Thats because you're terrible.
Bloody.
Credible.
I have no idea on how to improve it, absolutely zero.

But yeah, amazing bot dude.
The DDTs don't fire.Yeah, but a nifty barely powers that. It works for two HP-Zteks and one standard or something, and the snapper uses more than a standard Z-teks power drain.
Try a horizontal axle mount facing into the chassis.YES THANK YOU.
Fury's hitting the sides of the chassis, so the casters should really be moved outwards so they're sticking out of the sides as much as possible. Aside from that, it actually looks quite good. Maybe 9 razors it a bit much, would it be able to self right?
Maybe 9 razors it a bit much, would it be able to self right? Not AI'd, but that's not as much because of the 9 razors on the DDT as it is the long shape of the bot. It can self right with the Snapper2 if I'm driving though, or if it self-rights while going forward at the same time. (of course, this would technically be backwards when it's upside down)
NICELY DONE, BRO.
The wedge is oddly low, though.
I hate Snapper Loading.
Is there any way to get around a Snapper II failing to retract and not letting you attach anything more to it while eFFeing?

(that little space to the left of the Nifty is for the CB stack)Then try rotating the CB 90 degrees; it looks like there's plenty of room between the Nifty and Snapper that you can use.
Ugh, this should be a challenge or something..."Build a practical LW HS with DSA, two RADs with 3 maces each, and a snowplow".
axle loading it would do it.I said practical. :P
Building it with the drive attached to the base plate and weapon motors on anchors will allow you to have DSA I think. Not sure...Jack Daniel's Pork Chop Express (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/53490splash.png) didn't look like it had weight left over for a plow...
I'm guessing it is God awful, and I wonder why you even thought it was a good idea to showcase this bot because of it's complete un-usefulness.
Are the RAD's on the baseplate?Yeah.
this for ironbot?Yes...I shall build it now and use a time machine to submit it before everyone else even has a chance.
Try all of them and see which one is best :PBut b is obviously best ;P
this for ironbot?
But Ironbot has a limit of 6 casters, unfortunately.Guys I can't enter Ironbot. :P (though I'd like to)
You will save weight by removing these snappers that hold the plow, and just use a simple anchor.the snapper look like they hold the weapon motors too

those swords are HS baitAnd...bracket wedges wouldn't be?
Put the wheels on again if it veers. It has to do with weight imbalance when the wheels were placed.THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Also, this is honestly the worst bot I have ever seen.
Also, this is honestly the worst bot I have ever seen.Half the time, Sage's red snapper fetish confuses me because only half the robots that use all red snappers he says "are terrible" because of it.
Half the time, Sage's red snapper fetish confuses me because only half the robots that use all red snappers he says "are terrible" because of it.I would like one of these "red snappers". :O
:trollface
Also, not all DDT wedges can get under NWB. Its Snapper2 wedges are just that good. XD
But your wedges are set way too far beneath the chassis as is. A shallower angle will give you better results. After trying every wedge angle possible pixel by pixel, it was the best wedge. Here's a better camera angle for reference; maybe the previous screenshot makes it look steeper than it really is:
First one to guess how many razors it has gets a cookie! :D6?
Incorrect. But you were the first one to guess how many razors it had so here's your cookie! (: :)First one to guess how many razors it has gets a cookie! :D6?
4 Razors. =DNah, same number as a Pysc popup. Don't think one DDT can hold all that. :P (plus, two Snapper IIs weigh 4 kg less than a DDT)
Exostacking casters isn't difficult. You can see Caster Armoured Popups quite often. But not too bad. I'd try to get DSA on either of them, though. Are they invertible?Actually I don't even know if it counts as exostacking since it's placed half outside the chassis normally as if it was a regular component being placed inside the chassis. xD Just trying to have a little fun.
How are you NOT in my top 5 Stock builders!?let's see, there is: Scrap, sage, inf, pwn, and vb/geice/click/nfx/others that im too lazy to remember.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/84349screenshot_156.png)I WANT THAT TO RW:V! 8D
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/87674screenshot_157.png)
TICK WITH A BLACK. FINALLY.I'm not sure if it needs it; without the blade a bit of the 140cm is left exposed, although I suppose the faster drive could act as a pseudo-blade by keeping the opponent from reaching the extender with the faster drive.
Why not ditch the blade for speedier drive, though?
I WANT THAT TO RW:V! 8DI still haven't remade it realistic. xD
Really try to lighten up the extender work on the drive. When you attach the HPZ's, the sides without lumps should be facing up and down, it looks a little bit cleaner, and it helps with ground clearance (HPZ's obscure collision mesh). Space management is very good, though, as is the choice of red extenders. :gawe:Give me a more efficient extender setup and I will give you a reason for why it won't work. :P
Is the first bot a secret ATM? Whatever, it sounds very impressive :thumbupYeah, I guess. Don't want other people building stuff to specifically counter my bot. :P
I absolutely love the second bot though =3Thanks. :o The chassis does look taller than it should be, but I'm 100% sure it's the minimum height. Remember to thank Sage too.
how quickly does the battery drain on the SnS ?It's at half after about 1 minute, after which I'm assuming the motors slow down.
also, you can still fit three maces on extender..I know, but I had 6 kg extra weight, plus with the extra extender they all hit at the same time. (the ones on each piston arm, not all 6 :P)
Looks awesome.new rules (gtm constitution) say that you can't make a post saying just "very nice" or "i like it", sorry
Insides of MLP bot?NO IT'S A PREVIEW >:O
And I don't think Sage noticed the red extenders. :P
I run into that problem with wedges as well when I design bots. In real-world physics you would think that weight distribution like that would positively effect the wedge capabilities of the bot. But, alas, in RA2 physics this does not seem to be the case. I keep falling for it over and over without thinking things through. It seems that traction trumps weight distribution when it comes to wedges, mainly because of the way that wheels react to the driving surface. By my observations, it seems that four wheels spread out has a more positive effect on a wedge then 2 wheels lined-up, or even four wheels lined-up.
Because RA2 physics are unfortunately grossly inaccurate in comparison to Real world physics... You have to think of the bottom of your bot as a suction cup. The traction rating for the wheels determines the amount of pull toward the floor and where you place them determines how much balanced pull to the floor you have.
I think this is, ultimately, why 4 wheel drive bots with shinies (in stock, hypnos in DSL) is incredibly common and also seems to have a good success rate with their wedge.
?? I thought the opposite was true, but maybe I am wrong.
I should test more accurately wedge efficiency.
Agh but what about these guys

Try rotating the Snapper IIs 90 degrees so they rotate on a horizontal axis, and see if that helps the wedges. This conveniently required a chassis rebuild...and didn't help. :FFFUUU
Ballasts? ._.Is that all you can say? They actually help in this occasion.
The hammer looks a bit lacking in weaponry compared to the other two, but other than that it looks excellent.I didn't want to put too much weight on it since gravity pulls it down when it lifts back up after firing, and I couldn't put more weapons because of rule of 7. :P I think I'm gonna get rid of 2 maces from each side hammer to double up the side plows though.
You showcased NightTerror at the start of the showcase :PI didn't expect you to remember a 9-month old bot that got no discussion whatsoever...but I guess you did. :o
I ended up with Bot Clean-Up.Bot Clean-Up is hilarious. Its a good choice O,o
Where's the rest of the Triple-Black-Stack bot by the way?
Oh, that reminds me, I think it has about 6 maces instead of 8 on each side hammer now, so there are 4 plows and longer wedges. The vertical hammer may have been tweaked a tiny bit as well. (it was a long time ago...)Where's the rest of the Triple-Black-Stack bot by the way?
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,6369.msg462423.html#msg462423 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,6369.msg462423.html#msg462423)
This forum section needs more hybrids. Hybrids are cool.
How's the popup against HS?Tempus Fugit-like stuff likes eating the wedge extenders. =( Single, unstable spinners are a-ok.
But tribars are far too thin to be effective, I think.Too...thin?
And stuff can still hit it, even though it seems to sink through the floor.I was hoping the arms would be invincible and the cubes on the ends would spin too fast to get hit easily.
because if stuff just goes through them like they weren't there it would be silly.
Yeah. Look at how spindly the arms are, and the vast amounts of space between them. Shame it doesn't work, but you could take this and make it into a conventional popup with some sort of FS/HS hybrid feature. But tribars are far too thin to be effective, I think.Too...thin?
Excellent chassis work on the top two. I'm not a fan of the pink, though, I'd probably lose it, shrink the chassis up at the back if possible, bring the nifty in, and perhaps add a couple of casters on the front for defense.
Second again looks great, but I'm again worried by the lack of defense and battery. Nice simple and clean build, though. I do very much like your style.I just don't want it to be able to get outweaponed, so the most I can do is get 10 kg by switching to RADs for 2 casters or DSA, but eh.
Why the seemingly pointless red extender on the underside?to piss sage off ?
Almost looks like it has tank treads hahah.I don't know if it's because of the narrowness, but it does drive straight. Funny because I was almost certain it would have AGOD and/or havok issues.
How strait does it drive? I'm guessing pretty strait due to how narrow it is.
Needs some weaponry. Drop to about 12WD, and add a ramplate on the front or something.I could drop to Plastic and add a single razor or something when I'm not feeling lazy. :P Wonder how much damage that razor can do.
VS looks good, but I think the extender work could be lighter. HW Popup could probably be built without the SnapperII at the back. Tribar HS would probably be better if the chassis was pointing the other way.The VS has the best setup I could find. The first extender that sticks out of the non-visible side of the chassis uses its farthest side attachment point for the HPZ so it's centered, so the side that you see needs an extra extender as well, for symmetry. Also, the frontmost extenders to the side are just for protection because of 4 kg of extra weight.
SHALLOW POPUP- nice, wonder if it can hold its own against hs with that shallow of a wedge, which reminds me i still need to make my n00bot-like thing i wanted to doPopup does great against HS, less so against Dizzy Bees obviously. N00bot-ness always helps.
CP4HS- the battery isnt going to last long, especiqally with all rads its essentially going to be a turtle after 1:30
SERVO HS- i dont think its worth it honestly
LW VS- that looks ABAP, wonder if the motor falls off against hs alot though ?
FS- looks a bit like duo, but without the stacked redbirds. wedge looks kinda..... fail-y though
AW CHASSIS'- nice space management, not sure if you really needed that ba+cb stack though, cant you just put the cb on top of the rads ?
(hopes fracture doesnt send a 4 razored rammer for robozone2)
i really like that. my only concerns are weather or not 10WD is really necessary, or is it one of those "GOTTA GO FAST" kind of rammers (not really too experienced with SHWs so if you would let me know how much drive a regular shw rammer has thatd be great). the "low" weapon count (i counted ~4000 HP worth of weaponry, slightly more than your average 36HS has) is kind of worrying toolol I don't know SHWs that well either, I don't think anyone does. Looking at the ratio of HPZs to weight, 6WD for a HW is the midpoint between 8WD and 10WD for a SHW. 10WD sounded better to me since it gave a better impression of a "mad dog".
EDIT: nice job with the 1 snapper too, gonna take me a while to figure out that setup. think i might know it right now but id have to check
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/64260hourbot.png)Can i see your setup ?
Plastic and one black. If I can find a way to get rid of the havok, it'll be my entry forBox of Nightmares 2Tusslers.
Can i see your setup ?(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/97137screenshot_406.png)
Just rofl'd at the Mad Dog way back there...looks exactly like Scrap's ol' one....That's the point! ian was thinking about adding AWs, BWs, and SHWs to ReStocked, so I thought about what a Steelyard Dog SHW would look like.
Otherwise, everything else looks pretty decent. Definitely improved since I've been around. Thanks, you've also gotten a lot nicer!
like, mutliple t connectors is SO messyand wastes so much weight
May I see the detailed setup for this one :Y U NO SHOW that setup, is it something wrong with that bot?

Yes! I used BFE, AAM, Hax Mode, and the new uberstack glitch to build it!I knew it
The upper extender holds the ramplate. The lower extender coming off the SnapperII holds two more extenders. Those two extenders are used to attach the drive and weapon motors.Yes! I used BFE, AAM, Hax Mode, and the new uberstack glitch to build it!I knew it
I still don't get it. It's 1 burst setup, right? Those are only 2 red extenders?
Show "what-attached-where" pic please.
pretty nice! invertable? No; but it slides around upside down enough to not be counted out.
honestly, i like the first version better. There's a reason that one didn't have any battleshots!
The next one will be special-made for you, Sage.(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/70788screenshot_425.png)
Angle those secondary maces somehow. Completely downwards = mehI've done AI testing and the downward maces work incredibly well.
Very nice. Love it.;)
damn that is sexy
Of course it could be better but I like the 2007-era look.Decided to give this a try; the arms had to be widened to fit the anchors so the bot did have to be made a bit narrower. I get the symmetrical wedges which is nice, so not sure which version I'll keep.
That said, you could make the chassis just a tad taller so you can mount the Snappers vertically and make the wedges symmetrical. Then get rid of that center baseplate anchor and put two baseplate anchors on the sides instead, in front of the Snappers, and put the Redbirds directly on the anchors. The discs will be further apart and protect the chassis more.
I was thinking you would rotate the anchors so the Redbirds are on the outside, rather than in the center gap. Bot is no longer narrow. :mrgreen:Ah...
Might as well do the same for the snappers so that it's more stable. Can't without snapper loading since the Redbirds are in the way. Will probably build an actual Stock version of it at some point.
how's the wedge on the aw? it looks kinda steep
No Trov chassis, but I might use it for another bot on the team. And here is that bot! Decided to build the MW first because why not enter it into RedAce's tournament?
Speaking of Trov chassises, is there even a way to make angled shapes ? (Like a Y shaped not that has trovved upper body)
did you try differnt lengths of pistons. i noticed it happens a lot with the longer ones.ehh, that could be it but it seems shortening the firing range doesn't let me eFFe the razors properly anymore. my motivation has left the building anyway
please tell me whem you say effe you are using pause/break aswellyeah i am, it looks like this with my weapon setup and just barely fits by some meme magic. could do it differently but it'd be pretty bad with a wide razor rack
Entry for Thrackerzod - why do shinies have to be so unaestheticisn't 3 wedges overkill

that's pretty ****in neat, how does it fare against HS?It's alright, seems to still take a bunch of damage vs. the ones that use irons, maybe because the spinners don't bounce off of that chassis shape as much (guess that's everyone's cue to enter their iron HS into the tourney)
I just wanted to build it with 3 wedges, it looks rad and probably has some obscure advantageIt doesn't get sniped by single wedges I guess???
You got far, far worse things to worry about....that's pretty ****in neat, how does it fare against HS?It's alright, seems to still take a bunch of damage vs. the ones that use irons, maybe because the spinners don't bounce off of that chassis shape as much (guess that's everyone's cue to enter their iron HS into the tourney)
nice stuff. the iron racks are really dense though, so do you think the bot would benefit from having them wider? also, why not use shinies? It can be invertible with shinies or rubbers, but I like to have smaller targets considering it's only got two to work with. A wider rack would probably help against HS, but not really wedged bots since it needs to be able to turn around easily while it's getting knocked around, I also just like the way it looks
is the turnspeed high enough with that wheelbase? It's not a HS, so the snapper HPZs work well. And I think the game physics are pretty good about rotational inertia; the distance from the drive to the weapons is short so less force is needed to turn.
Since I found out I wasn't eligible for the Challenge Belt, I took the time to make a cleaner version of my initial entry. Wanted to see how many irons I could fit on a heavyweight

DSA and invertible, the setup was really complicated to keep within rule of 7 but not inefficient (basically used a bunch of red extenders as further T-connectors) with 48 irons, 4 pickaxes, and 2 maces in total. Same irons as One Way Ticket and less than Dark July but I traded for casters and a snapper setup. Thank god I had component freedom for attaching the weapons, and even still had to add snapper loading to keep track of where all the extenders were
