Title: Tougher people on the boards.
Post by: CrazyClown on June 21, 2013, 11:09:31 AM
A lot of people on the forum have been quite nasty and rude. I logged in and in the shout i see an argument about people liking a kids show. Other times people have been swearing away but gotten away with it. I'm just saying that admins NEED to be tougher. Bullying has gotten higher and its more hostile since i joined. PLEASE REVIEW IT. :gunz: :gunz: :gunz:

Rudeness happens, people aren't just going to coincide peacefully, that just will never happen. Arguments will always happen as well because not everyone will agree on everything so they are inevitable.

Plaz hit the nail on the head. You'll get it wherever you go on the internet because it's the internet.

I agree with CC, This place has gotten way more bullies ever since ACAMS left.
There also wasn't uncensored swearing when ACAMS was here. (at least outside the playground)

Really? I was thinking that it is about even. I also wouldn't say that my taking over was the turning point but I'm obviously biased and possibly delusional.

Please hit the "Report to moderator" button when you see questionable posts. You are not penalized for any misjudgments and it only takes a few seconds. ATM, there are zero reports being made and the staff is working unnecessarily hard to compensate for it.

God forbid your feelings are hurt by a stranger who lives miles away from you that you'll never talk to or see in person.

That would just be awful.  :frown:

I know this is supposed to be a friendly forum but we have more mature members than not and it's also the internet. Just remember, if you can't handle the heat here then you would've been shredded to pieces anywhere else (not counting the sludge factories aka twitter, facebook, instagram, kik and whatever)

Whatever happened to "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me?" Learn to grow some iron skin. This isn't kindergarden, this is GTM.

I honestly think that when it comes to language, we should take an example from film ratings (I'll use MPAA Ratings here because I understand the majority here are American, and PG-13 basically equates to 12A in the UK anyway). Even PG films can get away with 'mild language', while PG-13 films can contain 'Brief Strong Language', which pretty much sums up what you find here - and if people under 13 are using this website and others without parents at least slightly monitoring what they're doing then I weep for society.

Look people, it's the internet for gods sake. This isn't math class, you can't just go and whine to some higher authority every time someone used language or says something you don't like. No one is "bulling" anyone here. The only people who are getting bullied here are the people allowing themselves to get their feelings destroyed over completely meaningless words posted on an internet forum. Grow up, like Kossokei said, you all need to mature and get some thicker skin for gods sake. You can't just go and throw a temper tantrum whenever someone doesn't like your sh**ty cartoon.

On the other hand, I do agree that the admins here need to be stricter as far as punishment goes. This place needs a solid set of rules as far as offenses and bans go, instead of this attitude of just muting people repeatedly and bandaging the problem instead of removing it.

Also delete the junkyard.

I'm not saying im being a whiny bugger about it im just saying that some people take a mile. I would prefer it whenever i logged in i didnt see a single person hating on a fandom that isnt even related to the forum. Other times i see someone being hated on for there view. but generally yes its a nice place. but at the best of times i see someone hating on someone for a silly on the side out the way thing you know?

I must say though, if there is a post (not counting the chatbox) that is of concern to you, Trovaner won't actively search for it and punish that person, you have to report them.

Trov isn't ACAMS. He won't go and actively search for every single cuss word if he doesn't hear any sightings of one. We're not used to that, maybe, but it's time to get used to it.

You saw one individual acting out, so what?  Don't blow it out of proportion.  On this forum you give what you get in terms of respectfulness, and Kid Krusher is no exception to that.  If you want admins who are that devoted to stamping out meanness, there are plenty of Christian faith forums to look into.

a general rule of thumb to not getting "cyberbullied" or whatever is to not act like a total retard.

i mean notice how someone like kidkrusher is flamed all the time, and is arguably one of the most idiotic members on the site. then you have people like scrap clickbeetle who noone even DARES to insult.

There are certainly some days that I've considering doing this. Personally, I don't think it helps the rest of the forum but it is one of the more popular sections at GTM.

I just did a search for the f-word and it was everywhere.
I used to search regularly, but stopped when I retired.

That's actually pretty resourceful of you. I did a quick little automated clean up but I'll probably do it your way in the future. Kossokei is right that I'm not into doing tedious things unless I see it but I'll try to do my part. I've been doing too much in the background and not enough in the foreground for everyone else to see (lead by example).

That is not to say that members should depend on the staff to do everything. You as members have quite a bit of control of how things are run around here. You should be trying to limit your use of foul language and negative behaviors. You can also hit the report button when you see something that you consider questionable. PMs to staff members are fine too but please limit yourself to only doing it when it is a private matter.

The rest of the staff is also responsible for doing their part in making GTM a better place for everyone. It is important that they lead by example and manage what they can. The fact that we don't have very many active staff members is definitely a problem but I'm not going to promote anyone unless I see them stepping up and staying out of trouble. This is yet another reason why people should restrain themselves and try to help make GTM more fun for everyone else (by not overloading the staff with dumb things like foul language edits/punishments).[/quote]

Because some people (like me) don't want to see the f-word being posted all the time without punishments.
Title: Re: Tougher people on the boards.
Post by: cephalopod on June 21, 2013, 03:24:11 PM
From what I can gather, Jamin's trying to say why should there be punishments.
But I kind've understand from the Admin team perspective, as any kid can access this site, then it's just 2 minutes before angry parents end up all over the site, and it does make the place look nicer/kinder/cleaner from an outside perspective.

Foul language and arguing doesn't make people meaner.

also, the claim that the forum is more hostile is nonsense. Bullying is actually a very rare occurence if you are a normal newbie, and we try to keep it down.

The only people who are bullied are the n00bs who post BS and generally make themselves look like complete retards.

also people who post in playground expecting a friendly welcome, but it's Playground. It is above good and evil. You can leave it if you don't like it.

chatterbox... sometimes, but we need a stricter set of rules for it.

We do need a good rule system, though.

The playground is only good or evil if you make it to be that way. I don't take the playground seriously, I don't believe it's evil and I don't believe it's good either. So my presence on playground is as neutral as what I make of it. simple as that.

Yes there was, individual users have always had control over the censoring of naughty words.

It's incredibly hard to take you seriously when you smiley spam the end of your rant.

This is fact.

Why the hell are "profanities" even a problem to begin with?

Profanity laced webpages are automatically removed from search engine results, and in theory it would be nice if this community could grow a little now and then instead of fizzle out.

Abbreviations do not make foul language OK. Ironic that you've posted it in this thread. Also, your tough-guy attitude will bring you nothing but trouble. I suggest you drop it.

For a while I was one of the toughest staff members on the forum, but I don't have the time or the energy to do what I used to do anymore. I can only take care of the things I see in passing nowadays. It's pretty easy for something to slip through the cracks.

Uh... you're on a forum with its services paid by someone else. And that person assigned moderating duties to some other people. And they're tasked to clean up the crap and prevent fights from occurring in general.

So yeah, you have to care about what the others say about you.

There are no bullying on this forum, just repeated offenders in stupidity.  They just draw a big target sign on their chest.

Do you know what happens in other forums?  Those so call "victims" who think they can do whatever they want would have already gotten perma-banned for starting trash over and over.
