Simple. If they whine, they get another warning.

They'd just get a warn about excessive and pointless bawwing. I do think that making the Warn ratings visible would generally improve behaviour. It definitely wouldn't slip people's minds that they had a high Warn rating if it was on display. Same as with everything, though, this would only work if we implement and use it correctly.

If people can see it then they can bitch and whine about it.....

OOPS did I forget to mention that those idiots who are tagged are already bitching and whining non stop as is?

There was a system similar to this on an old forum I was once part of. The members had the Avatar and such on the left, along with a Warn rating. I think it went in 20% increments, and when it reached 100%, a temp ban was issued. Would it be easier if a member's Warn rating could be displayed, so they could see how thin the ice they were walking on was?

Yeah, on my Marble Blast forum, they did the same thing. I was banned for 2 years for applying as 11 years old (the limit was 13) 3;
Let me guess...was Heat Miser the Administrator?  =/

No. :P

Thing is, it's kinda behind the scenes right now, and not many people might know about it. I didn't know this was the system we had already, maybe if it was displayed, there might be a bit less confusion over it, and people would know kinda who to avoid, depending on what their Warn was. Somebody made some pretty good points in favour of, as well.
Yea, and if we could see it it would save a lot of time and confusion AND people can see how close they are to getting banned or whatever and might calm down a bit.
I guess we could replace it with rep?

How about we put a warning system into place. Every time someone says or does something stupid (Starting a flamewar, SOTGing a thread, making a pointless bump or DP, etc) They would get a warning. 3 warnings would result in a temp ban (like say a week or something) and 3 more would result in a permaban.

What do you think? Another forum I'm on has this system, and it's pretty darn effective.

As far as I know you are describing the system that is in place right now.

But really what Sage said.

Have you ever considered the affects of making them public? That could be a deterrent because everybody knows how close the people are to ban. I think it could work because of people not wanting to have other people know of their problems with the mods.

We already have a system like that.. us staff have a list of warnings issued and keep track / notify each other of every warning.. get to many and we decided how to deal with you..

It may not be clear all the time but we are in fact keeping a close eye on people..

Cause ACAMS doesn't want to ban anyone.
