Appeal System
« on: July 30, 2011, 01:02:00 AM »
JoeBlo said that someone with a clean record can suggest stuff, so I decided to take a step into the unknown and suggest a system which I've used on at least five of my forums, and it works relatively well. (My record IS clean, right? o.o)

What I'm talking about is a Punishment Appeal System. Based on the Appeal System that Prisoners use to Appeal to their Sentence, the Punishment Appeal System would allow people to Appeal against the perhaps more shadily explained bans (As an example, I'll just use GF's ban "GF is banned for 3 days for spamming said thread and discussing said explicit images in seemingly positive light"). Now, don't think that this would put any more work you mods' way, because it really doesn't.

The Appeal doesn't go through to the Mods, but to an Independent Adjudicator, who has an Unbiased View of the Situation and will look at all Sides of a Story - rather like a Detective of sorts. If they believed the Ban to be Unfair, then they would Report their Findings to a Mod via PM. The Mod, based on the Findings given, would then decide if the Sentence should be Reduced.

This is just a suggestion though, so do with it as you will. I don't expect much positive feedback to it, but I can provide working examples from several of my forums.

Also, a fairer and clearer Banning Tree would be another thing I could suggest (and I could help set one up for you, if you want)

You should understand though that we dont always judge on a single case basis..

You ever notice when people push things and nothing happens.. well we dont forget about them,

When a Bans issued its usually just the final nail in the coffin with previous activity already contributing..

In a lot of cases the warn level is an indicator, if your sitting on 75% and causing trouble then you can expect a ban for the next thing you do wrong...

Looks at the Nate/ Sparkey situation.. They both took part but Nate came off with less and he had a previous clean record and no warn level, Sparkey was limited at the time..

So while things can look not proportionate or balanced with similar offenses you need to look at those peoples rap sheet first.

I can see where you're coming from with that, and I do understand, but some bans can look too long (*points to TX's last ban*), too short (*points to Jonzu's latest ban*), or actually not really necessary (*points to GF's ban*) (Points based on collective views, not just my own)
This system would give a bit of power to the people, as such, and would help make the community stronger, in my honest opinion.

But, like I said, it is just a suggestion.

I'm open to the idea.... But structure needs to be tweaked.

I'm open to all suggestions for improvements to the system I suggested - what kind of tweaks did you have in mind?

Why just Advanced Users? I'm the one with the Junior Degree in Psychology. I'm the one who's studying Criminology and Law at college (as well as Computing). I'm the one who suggested the idea, so why just people with a flashy color? TT-TT

The idea of the Independent Adjudicator is to analyse ALL sides of the story, so mods are already covered

Maybe selected users are allowed, like a group for them, the same could be done for rep.

That's one of the first constructive things I've ever heard you say O: That's a good idea
We could have like a little detective team like CiD in Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes! \o/

That's already the case for rep, btw

Not all AUs can - I can't. And I don't know about this 'agency'. There would be a lot of bias with the... 'Junkyard Crew'.

If they are banned, they have no where to appeal to!
