I was bored today, so I whipped up these two (horrific) logos for GTM in 10 mins, in the same dimensions as the original, at the top of the homepage.

So, I was wondering, could anyone make a good logo for GTM? I'm not saying the current one is bad or needs to be replaced, but it is something to do when bored. The only rules are that is must be 377 pixels wide by 98 pixels high, and must mention 'GameTechMods' or 'GTM' somewhere on it.
I look forward to interesting entries, if anyone can be bothered at all

I edited the first to have some glow on it, makes it a tad more interesting.

If the two you presented wrere the only two choices, I'd go with the first by far. Sure it's generic, but at least it spells the name out in full. There's no shortage of things "GTM" can stand for: http://www.acronymfinder.com/GTM.html (http://www.acronymfinder.com/GTM.html)
And that monstrosity of a robot as our mascot? I'm sorry to whoever made it, but it's really ugly - from a selling & advertising perspective it looks like an arts and crafts project that someone abandoned after they spilled glue over all the pieces.

Well, I asked if some of the better artists on the forum would contribute with their work, which will obviously be better. My attempts are just to start the ball rolling.
And I just thought that AC was the most iconic robot to come from GTM, it may be considered the perfect robot, which is a large achievement to come from a small community. At any rate, that was rubbish.

No no- I just liked the first one more, perhaps not as much as the current one but I think it's the better jumping-off point of the two. In fact you're right- I should be presenting solutions, not problems. Let me get us on the right track by sharing what I'd make if I were a pofessional graphic designer.
The logo itself would be a gashed-up steel plate with "Gametechmods" written on it in the Robot Arena 2 font. In the background there would be be lines of code (in green-against-black like you see on computers in movies) and a robot blueprints; more detailed than the chassis-shaping grid in the RA2 botlab, a sketch that shows an outline of the structure, plus some of the components in place. The whole thing rests against a series of gears that make up the outer border.

See you may not know but the entire theme ACAMS made on this forum is basically identical looking to the original RA2 forums (only saying GameTechMods not Robot Arena 2) by Atari after it went down.. its made this place really feel like the home to RA2 since.. Im too fond of it and its history to tamper with it..

See you may not know but the entire theme ACAMS made on this forum is basically identical looking to the original RA2 forums (only saying GameTechMods not Robot Arena 2) by Atari after it went down.. its made this place really feel like the home to RA2 since.. Im too fond of it and its history to tamper with it..

As I said, I never claimed to want it replaced, I just was wondering what people could come up with for some fun. ;)

The current White with the grayish grid background is a replication of the official forums that was adopted on this site after they went down..

Sentinel would probably be the most iconic and famous robot of Ra2 if anything, not that ugly ass monstrosity of a thing in that logo TheBadger made.

Hmm...I'm not trying to turn this into a game of GTM Banner one-up-man-ship, but I'm gonna have a crack at making one tomorrow. I'll keep the same dimensions, though, that's kind of a given.

First of all i added some colour to the logo. Also i added a darkish gradient to the background to make it the logo seem that it is dimly lit as it is away from the main imagery. I kept with the rounded rectangle shape such that it can be related to the original logo. The graffiti-like central "GTM" was to make it more urban and slightly messy as robotic combat has this kind of environment. It overlaps the rounded rectangle to show the forum isn't too formal and we do hav fun and laughs (lol). I placed the actual name at the bottom for completeness. The "GTM" in the middle let's newcomers now that gametechmods is normal abbreviated.
May develop this further such that there are more technological aspects to it.

Yeah I can see that I'm going to be branded as a terrible Absolute Chaos hater, so let me just say that I never said AC was a bad fighter, just that it looked ugly and unrealistic - things to consider when we're trying to attract new users.

My only constructive criticism advice thing is that the bottom of the T should be a bit more filled out, so it has some distinction from the left portion of the M as a separate letter. Other than that its really well done.

And make a logo for the dark theme, and the SMF default theme as that is the new dark theme when the forum gets upgraded.

This is the only post that actually made sense.
The logo is fine and all, just, it looks a little stretched, as the edges are a bit blurry.
And MAYBE we could replace the O with a gear...
.....
I would re-make the logo, but that would defeat the purpose of everyone else getting a chance to do so.
Plus, me and Joe are lazy and LIKE the way the current logo looks. The nostalgia is what makes it wonderful.

If you want it to do with the game why don't you make the letters from the chassis in the game sure letters like A are impossible but they can be done with BFE I think. Good Idea?

Or you could just make the backround transparent.
And it would almost auto-match itself to the theme.
