Goodbye and return threads are becoming way to prevelant.
« on: November 29, 2010, 01:46:49 AM »
A whole new section dedicated to such threads should be made. A section to announce extended leaves and arrivals, so that the off topic section isn't cluttered with such nonsense; a "Gametechmods Airport" if you will.

We could just do a thread named, Goodbyes and other personal announcements. There is similar thread at Gene-rally.com

I'm kinda in agreement with you, DH. I think one of the problems is the kinda more noobish members making an "I'm Leaving" thread as a way of kinda grabbing attention, Sparkles springs immediately to mind on that one. If the threads were actually giving reasons why you were going, such as things in real life, instead of going on an aggressive tirade at the rest of the forums, maybe that'd make them seem more reasonable. But I think a GTM "Airport" seems like quite a good idea, personally.

^ that was ^ if you read it with a pause :P

we havent had any of those threads for a month or so have we ?

in any-case we are not making a new section, heck I cant even have a section for my RA2 mod on an RA2 forum due to the excessive number of sections on here so in no way can I see one being made to be filled 90% with attention whoring.

a single topic in the chatterbox would be fine though

Yeah, one thread sounds like a better idea.

At any rate we'll still have to rant at noobs who'll make their own personal leaving threads anyway

Yeah, but it could be for personal announcements and suchlike. Perhaps a thread for letting off steam (which I would instantly use...), or for reassurance from other members.

Maybe, instead of making a GTM Airport thread, one of the moderators could go through the forum and delete all the "I'm leaving/I'm back" threads.  That would clean up .... what? At least a good half of the bandwidth ..... Or, if you absolutely HAVE to keep the threads for some reason, merge them all into one giant thread that would take anyone reading about a month ....

Maybe we should ban for a month the person that makes such a thread..?

Just wandering, does this guy just come on here every now and then to make a thread complaining about something then leaving again?

I know.
I don't see how threads like this help with the problem anyway.
