Post by: helloface on August 28, 2013, 05:27:13 PM
When I click on the upload button it says "An Error Has Occurred! The page you requested cannot be found."

Any more details?
Screenshots?
What are you trying to upload?

A .zip file. I uploaded it in the downloads section under misc, but if the link IS broken they should fix or remove it.

The file host should still be working but I'll look into later today. Is there anyone else that is having issues with it?

Yesterday I tried uploading that Robot Designs folder RPJK asked for in the RR AI thread and I had the same problem as helloface.

if the gtm file host doesnt work you can always use solidfiles (http://www.solidfiles.com/). 100% free to use and doesnt strain this site's servers.

dropbox > all

I think a different file uploading system would be a good idea. With our current system, anyone can upload anything without even being a member. It's only a matter of time before we host a file that isn't legal without even knowing it. I think that if we want something available for download on site, we should have to request through Trovaner or ACAMS before we can upload the file. That would keep unneeded crap from slowing down the server and I feel it would protect GTM in the long run.

dropbox > all

That is literally what comes to my mind every time you post something like that.

I was just referring to the extra useless download link, but Andy has a good point.
Some random person could upload illegal content and maybe even think it's funny to put malware in the File Host. I think you should put some verification thing on it to make sure it's not a spammer. Of course people could just make an account to put some bad stuff in it, but at least it would be doing something.
It's probably not that simple to do, but as Andy said it could protect the site in the long run.

@HA
My opinions are fact and yours are either the same as mine or wrong. That's how the internet works.

Seriously though, Dropbox has very fast DL speeds, is free, is very easy to upload/download to, you can get direct links easily, there's no waiting times and most importantly has no annoying adverts. This is not true for most other free upload/download sites.

I was thinking that maybe instead of the downloads tab, we could upload the files to other sites (rapidshare, mediafire etc.) and just link to that from the DLs tab. Easier on the site, avoid problems with hosting dodgy stuff, would be very similar functionally.

The problem with using off-site alternatives is that links go bad due to sites shutting down, files getting removed due to low activity, or annoying restrictions.

I was planning a complete overhaul of the file uploader in the not too distant future but I could do it sooner rather than later if you guys prefer. Otherwise, I'll just fix it and come back to it when I have more time (after the bot exchange which has been undergoing some rigorous testing to close holes in the security and improve maintainability).

Edit: I forgot to mention that members without accounts do not have access to the file uploader.

It should be fixed now. It was previously sending you to a non-existent test page that didn't get changed when I copy/pasted the code over to the uploader that you guys have access to.

Really, I should be thanking you for letting me know that there was an issue. If I had to guess, its been broken for the past two weeks.

Seems about accurate, I was having the same problem about that long ago. Figured it was this computer or maybe Charter, but guess not.

It works for me, that sounds more like an internet issue than the site.

Try spamming refresh. I agree with Chris here, it sounds like an internet issue.

I still don't see the point in having a button that doesn't work properly.

Everything seems to be working.

The "this webpage is not available" message usually implies that there is an issue on the client side. Does it still appear to be broken for you?
