Avatar size has been increased to 140x140.....and a new status created....we now have veterans that have extra privileges and 150x150 avatars. I may have skipped a few true veterans (sorry) and if so I will catch it later and veterans can be nominated here (does not mean you will be selected)

Wow, cool. I was wondering where my name was on the nominees in the first page, but then i realized my name was gold. Musta been a first pick (hehe)

EDIT: I think there should be one more category for Major Modders, (such as Serge and Gigafrost) who aren't exactly vets but have made major contributions to the game (perhaps green names?)

Serge has been around longer than all of you, infact if I remember correctly he was on RA1 old boards. I would call that a vet.

perhaps a bot-building skill ranking. or something. Somehow thats what got into me as what a vet was. probably in my early days vet always meant good builder. it stuck.

SHW isn't really great. SHW's are pretty much frowned upon that said!

I would say two things:
-Color, for the forum rank
-Title, personal

Example, all the vets will have their name in gold, but each could ask for a different title rather than "Veteran". But this title must be deserved/earned with a special thing.

Examples:

Urjak => Spiderweight (in the title, not in the avatar)
Serge => Modder (gold because he's a veteran)
Hydro => 9x Post Combo Master
Gigafrost => Major Modder
Madiaba => Major Modder(blue, moderator)
Clickbeetle => DSL Team(red, admin)
Starcore => AI Master

And for all noobs, well, "Noob-weight" or something like that.

Etc.

- win the BBean championship
- organise and conduct to its end a championship
- delivers new and valuable AI pack or component pack (either with the help of others)
- build a good arena
- help in improving the program knowledge (Serge)

some may take years before becoming vets, others are 'RA2 infused' and grow quickly.

Not to mention that most vets have been here since the old forums (My Join Date: 10-14-2004  10-14-2004  on gametechmods alone/ 2003 for official forums and serge for who knows how long). Not all members may become vets for this though. It really depends on their contribution like you said and it goes deeper than things like posting 9x in a row or being a superheavyweight.

Infinite has alot to say...

First off. I hate the color yellow. Why would you use a color you can barely see on a white background?

and I do agree on color coding thenames dependig on what kind of vet you are. I thinking green for mods, red for admins/moderators, blue for builders.

I like the idea, alot, but the yellow isnt right...and why is madiaba blue?

Anyway, you should make orange for flamers, but nothing else really for the lesser members around the forum, that would jsut get too complicated and out of hand.

Sorry, but I really dont think Sorrow and Phlox are good enought o be veterans building wise, because they wouldnt be vets for any other reason.

Uhh. sorry PB, but not reallly. The last one is really the only good suggestion. Anything else anybody can do.

I think Scrap Daddy, R0B0SH4RK, and if you havent done him yet, Jules, all deserve to be veterans.

Not sure, i have no idea of the way to make a good arena (by the way i do not call me a vet and do not pretend to) perhaps many people should give good Ai pack, ...  perhaps, but it is not done yet and effort should be rewarded.

If you want ACAMS, I can create badges for Veterans and all the others. Just to eliminate the whole changing text thing all together. But I really think that Veterans should be able to choose their colors (Advanced users are able to as well but with less colors to choose from and so on for Heavy Posters)

Regular users should stay grey...

Haha... I don't really care that much about what the colors are, but here is my opinion:

Veterans: Dark Blue
Advanced user: Green
Heavy Poster: Dark Red
Members: Wouldn't regular members just have no color?

EDIT: I think Giga has a good idea, it would be nice to choose our own colors if we are going to do this at all.

Well just because you have 500billion posts a month (somebody, Naryar) does not make you a vet. I agree some of the newer member should have vet status......but that is something to look forward to. Is someone one the vet list you think should not be, or someone not there you think should?

I agree with you as well, but to clarify my other post talking about badges:

It is a little badge I made in like 10 minuites. It is a golden badge with silver trim (And looks more handsome than colored text IMO).

 However, I don't know if you can put this in usernames, but it's just an idea to get the ol' brain goin. Of course admins, vets, etc. have a variety of these royal colors to choose from.

Regular user: Should stay grey.

If you give everyone a colour, it'll just be confusing. Especially for n00bs when they first join.

Screw colored text all together. Custom titles are simpler.

New person= Noob
Regular= (regular title)
Veterans= A custom title of there chose
Moderator= Moderator
Admin = Admin
Heavy posters don't need anything special
Modders can go under Veterans or have a title of "Modder"

Simple yet effective.

I think the colors should still be selected (more colors assigned to higher ranks). Especially since we already have that title underneath our username that tells us what we are... Kind of eliminating the fuss about which rank gets what color.

Basically normies can get drab colors: brown, tan, sea green, etc. (better than grey IMO)

Heavy Posters have an addition of Black and moderate colors (brick red, navy blue, etc)

Advanced users have even more so with the addition of rainbow colors

Vets, Mods, and Admins have all colors along with royals (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Onix, etc.)

This way, at least everyone will have a little bit of variety other than just one color.

I think it's a mountain. The painter is a person named Kay Sage, which, when I typed  Sage into google looking for an avatar, is how i found this. If you look at it right right way, it does look sorta like a wizard or something, but really it's just (according to Kay Sage) "sharp, spiny forms."

Does it really matter though? I mean... its not like you get frequent flier miles or discounts at Denny's for being labeled an Advanced User or Veteran. Personally, I am more of a fan of the unique tags that have been given out over the years "Spamweight, Cheeseweight, etc etc."  I find those amusing and more meaningful.

Besides... there is only appx 30 of us on the forum that are here regularly... if half of them are labeled AU or Vet... the other half know better.  This place is not flooding with noobs that are going to be all starry-eyed over a members title.

Just my opinion... sorry if it offends anyone.  I am cranky from working three 14 hour workdays in a row...  *grrrrrr*.

It really depends on what the title is. If everyone's was the same, yes. If they were all different.. well, it wouldn't have the same effect still, but it's still tuned to your tastes.

If everybody was an admin.. not including the chaos there'd be, the point of being an admin would be ruined.

Speaking of titles there's probably a few plain members who deserve AU.

I didn't see a thread for this, but I didn't want to make a new one:

So, I was looking at the list of Veterans on the forum, and there are 3, maybe 4 active ones. Personally, I think that Scrap Daddy and R0b0sh4rk both deserve the title. They are both fantastic bot builders and have been with he community for a long time. If I have Veteran status, they should as well.

Also, Ounce + Urjak = AU.

You may think so, but Andrewm0304 hasn't really done anything spectacular either, and he's an AU. You are one of the best builders in DSL and highly over the average in stock, much better than the aforementioned people.

I think AU is for members who are active within the competitive community.
 
You know, built plenty of bots, and fought in tournaments with varying success. (The bots need to be decent, mind you.) AU members probably have to be active and promote discussion within the forums as well, and as a last point, they should also be here for a while, and show that they are here to stay as well.
 
I fit this criteria, and so does STW, GK, OUNCE and others.

I hosted 2 successful tournaments, managed the current tournaments and helped out around the community and been present for 5 months when I can to get nominated for AU rank (thanks SSG :D)

GK is only 1 tournament short of what I had done to get AU rank but has AI'd for more then one other tournament (and also starting a new tournament now)

I personally think that is enough for AU rank

AU doesn't get you anything bonus.. just an orange name, I just loved it as someone else was who recommended it to ACAMS, I didn't ask for it, someone (or SomeStrangeGuy :P) just told me I deserved it.. that is why I think its so special.

On my old forum, we used to demote people who asked for status. Not promote, but demote. Status is something that has to be earned through your actions enough to be noticed as an extremely important part of the community by other people, not demanded because you did a couple little positive things. This little spree certainly hasn't helped, Jonzu.

And thanks for the congrats you guys.  I appreciate it.

My next step is to host a tournament and build up my AI skills and recording capabilities.  I think that most Advanced Users need to solidify those skills. I will be posting info about my tournament pretty soon. I have a ton of notes to go though and type up.

Maybe if I didn't drink so much I would be able to learn faster and be as 1337 as Naryar wants me to be.  :P

Edit: I made it 109 X 130 and it's still not working, even though my 120 X 130 test gif worked fine. Could the file size be too big?

Yea... I was also wondering why 99% of GTM had a 'invisible' avatar.
My old one is on a different computer.
I'm just too lazy to start it up for 3 seconds.
But later tonight, I'll probably have my original back up. ....Not that anyone might care or anything.

I hate it when I have to resize a pic like in 10 different sizes (80x80, 140x140, 160x160, etc) for different forums & stuff D:


I guess ill just put an old LiNcK one since I have one 150x150 ready :P
