check it out this is my first test drive of my first ant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPmtmKmlgws
-
i gotta admit it seems like it has poor control and looks to heavy and big to be an antweight
-
i gotta admit it seems like it has poor control and looks to heavy and big to be an antweight
Well, it wasn't much bigger than a soda can.
-
yeh but have cans are reasonably big, plus im pretty sure its bigger than the size limit and i bet its over 1kg's and 1 more thing that wouldnt be aloud in robot wars its a violation of health and safety.*sigh*
-
but still it looks nice and it would mince anty B
-
The soda can combo is really nice. I like this small drum.
Yeah, this looks pretty big to me, for an AW. I've seen antweights with the fourth of the volume of this bot.
-
its a us (1 lb) antweight and the only reason it looks like it has poor control is because its in a 4x4 box and i didn't want to slam into the walls and how is it a violation of health and safety when you battle is a lexan fight box
-
in england it would be a violation of health and safety don't ask ME why it is
-
i gotta admit it seems like it has poor control and looks to heavy and big to be an antweight
Hey, it's a working bot, which is more than most people on this forum can say they have.
If you ask me it looks pretty awesome.
-
I agree... I also like the weapon of choice.
-
I like it too, ZD64. How does it do against other bots... (any vids?)
Cool and potent looking.
-
sorry no not yet but i am going to an event july 12 and i hope to have vids of how well i do
-
im still designing my antweight i haven't been paying attention to it in ages, plus zipdrag are you in america or england ?
-
I would assume america because he i s following an amaerican system of weight (1lb).
The bot looks nice. I've though of building a robot as of recently, I just don't really have the funds to start in such an expensive hobby right now.
-
Hey, it's a working bot, which is more than most people on this forum can say they have.
If you ask me it looks pretty awesome.
I have a real, real working bot (I mean he does a job). It's a Roomba, he cleans our house.
And I have a working R2D2, he doesn't do a job, but he brings me a can of beer sometimes.
Oh,btw: The bot is cool. Well done Zipdragon!
-
Man that thing looks mean! Nice bot Zipdragon!
-
thanks everone and im working on 2 other bots at the moment one is a hor spinner and the other is an over head bar spinner they r both ready for parts (as soon as i get the money)
-
Nice bots!
-
Very Innovative! My favorite is the first one.
-
seeto looks like hworf lol nice bots. robot wars so i have seen on there rules has banned spinners so your lucky to be in america
-
robot wars so i have seen on there rules has banned spinners
Crappy rule. I'm bored to see flippers in RW.
-
in antweights >_>
-
Ah OK. Well it doesn't change a lot. Antweight vertical spinners are really fun to see (this could not be CB's opinion)
-
got board rebuilt and heres some gyro dancing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGrmWg5eBQM
-
alright i have some videos from the comp i went to two weeks ago (sorry i didn't post them then then) but herer they are
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA8XMsu13mY
lost my bushing in the begining of that match
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q_5webG2LU
had some control issues and got my ass kicked ;)
-
No offense, but that hit at the start of the second video was HUGE:eek:
-
You owned on the first video. I love how the wheel just falls off when the dude grabbed it.
-
That was pretty good, nice bot by the way.
-
ya thanks im working on a rebuild with a big brushless motor ;)
-
so ya about that rebuild im almost done and also
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwq2cIBFI8k (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwq2cIBFI8k)
-
Wow, nice weapon and very cool looking. Good job.
-
Looks nice.
I would put some wheel guards - plus the weapon motor wires are exposed.
What's the point of the two yellow trapezoids at the rear of the bot ?
-
i already have wheel guards planned just haven\'t got to them yet and they will protect the weapon motor\'s wires to it will be just like this when its all done
-
ok so its completely done now time to start working on my hor spinner
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dGx6No58GA&feature=channel_page (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dGx6No58GA&feature=channel_page)
-
ooh, I'd love to see some of our members fight.
-
But we already have flame wars!
BTW ZD64, what weight class is that?
-
BTW ZD64, what weight class is that?
Ant.
-
Whoa, I'd figure it's be a BW at least.
-
What's the armor on that?
-
well most of its made out of 1/4" poly and the top and bottem plates are carbon fiber and ya its just a one pounder, just looks big in the picture
and i really like the idea of everyone getting togeather and fighting robots
-
im not so sure about that weapon. doesn't seem damaging to me.
-
well i could get some pics of the stuff i've been testing it on if you want plus i want to make a video where you guys vote on what i destroy so it anyone has suggestions on what they want to see get wrecked post em here
-
How bout you show it grinding through a piece of wood.
-
How about it busting up an old computer mouse?
-
that i can do got a few of them =P
-
well heres just what some of you wanted and for those who did speak up when they had the chance they missed out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAcgLIzbuO0&feature=channel_page
the one video won't process i've been waiting for over an hour its a youtube problem, but as soon as it works ill plug it in and you can check it out, but for now you can just enjoy the above
-fixed it-
-
well here is my current progress on Szalor my hor spinner should be done with it in the next weeks or so
-
Looks frightening. Nice job
-
thanks and the frame is pretty much done just a few more little tweeks then i\'ll be ready to mount the motors and finish it up
-
Looks good. Love the colors, too.
-
I don't know, but I would be a bit cautious about using a belt in that. VSs could have ability to throw them off of their sprockets (is that the right word?)
-
(pulleys) but close enough ;) theres not much i can do about it, i've made the groves on the pulleys as deep as i can so hopefuly i won't have this problem plus i have like 6 spare belts, after all there just ebay o-rings
-
ok i have finsihed the weapon assembly on szalor here is a video of the test spin-up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc3Wu9lNeEI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc3Wu9lNeEI)
-
The noise is scary.
How many RPMs?
-
well in a perfect word the motor should be spinning at 14,060 on a 7.4v battery and with a little less then a 1.5:1 ratio it should be pulling around 9400 rpm-ish with a 5 1/2" blade not bad i guess
-
nice.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulALpQnmchg&feature=channel_page
Szalor is done! except for some driving issues witch im going to fix later oh and its a little over weight thats another thing i need to fix but other then that its done
-
Is it alot or a little over, because if it was a little, just go crazy with a drill.
-
That's nice, Zip. Well designed and built, IMHO.
A few suggestions to check out, since I cannot see it myself (and you may already know):
- I would check your driven assembly's (hub and blade) static and dynamic balances. Considering it's turning around 10k rpm, the vertical depth of your hub, and the length of your blade, it wouldn't take allot to get imbalances. The scews on your hub are not the same height; I don't know what's under the hub.
-From working with dragster engines and blowers that turn at that speed, imbalance will sop up power quickly and load the support structures(esp. bearings) that strive to hold it in check. ACAMS can also verify what I say here. Some electric motor shops can balance it for you. BTW: For a reference, the more 'whiney' it sounds the better it's balanced, but the more it sounds like a 'buzzer' the worse. From listening to it on your vid, both the buzzer noise and the variation in rpm point toward rotational imbalance.
I quickly googled and found this illustration. The static balance would relate more toward your blade, the dynamic toward your hub/pulley:
Static Imbalance:
(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/helpStaticImbal.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)Occurs when there is a heavy or light spot in the tire that prevents the tire from rolling evenly and causing the tire and wheel to undergo an up-and-down motion.(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)
Dynamic Imbalance:
(http://www.discounttire.com/images/helpDynamImbal.gif)Occurs when there is unequal weight on one or both sides of the tire/wheel assembly's lateral centerline, thus creating a side-to-side wobble or wheel shimmy. (http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)The static imbalance creates a hop or vertical vibration. The dynamic imbalance creates a side-to-side or wobbling vibration. Most assemblies have both types of imbalance, and require dynamic balancing (commonly referred to as spin balancing) to create even weight distribution.
Hope this helps. Just trying to share useful info...Spyguy will nail me again(hehe).
-
^^ static inbalance: exactly what happens when a VS loses a weapon head.
-
im pretty sure the speed controller just sucks because i used it on my other robot for a while and it did the same thing then i switched to bane bots and i haven't had a problem sense it just frustrates me when you pay 60$ for something that doesn't work right
oh and its a little over 2 oz's heavy its a fat tank
-
Who can't hate a bot that has it's own theme tune!
-
The singing speed controller IS rather weird. I like it though.
-
moto update FAIL i'll have a video of fail later
-
ok here is my fight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBtZTu1eC58
and i lost
-
Maelstom is hard to beat with those snowploughs and castor armour with a VS.
-
Maelstom is hard to beat with those snowploughs and castor armour with a VS.
Wrong Maelstorm dummy.
-
I know that, it's just a joke.
-
so ya heres my next project it\'s a beetle weight shuffle bot im probable going to start ordering the uhmw for the frame and cams here next week oh and heres also a side profile
-
It looks cool, but I don;t really like shuffle bots.
-
why not? have you seen belladonna?
-
there back, and hopefully better then ever!!
-
Awesome. I like the drum (but your dog doesn't seem to care. :P). :D
Oh, and how's your shuffle bot coming along? :D
-
Why are they all green and black nowadays? MikeNCR might have some copyrighting to do.
-
the green is from the lexan noise makers i got from moe (team 365 first robotics) and the black is the defalt garolite color i bought and i didn't feel like scraping the paint off the lexan
oh ya, i cut out some peaces for the shuffle bot but untill i buy my lathe or get access to one i can't make the drum/beater
-
I wasn't complaining about the green and black, personally I think its quite a good colour combination, I was just making an observation.
-
the hor bar is suposed to have garolite on the top to but i made a cut on the wrong side on my line and ended up 1/8 short and the only other color i have at the moment is blue so i just threw some lexan on it there happens to be no difference in weight so why not
-
wow nice.
the only thing that i dislike about the drum bot is that the rings around the motor kinda get in the way of the actual wep.
other than that its a good looking bot.
i just started a summer job so i might be able to actually finish some of my bots.
-
it sticks out quite a little bit plus its sharp as heck
-
testing
part one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwhvVE-2UiY
and two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc8xh-2E4-0&feature=channel
-
ok good
from the angle of ze pic it looked like it wasn't.
-
Szalor testing

fangus did very well (still can\'t beat maelstrom) hes all f-ed up now but here are the fight vids

-
Heh heh, good job there.
-
Nice bot and nice job.
-
Go fangus.
seems to me you have a rival called Maelstrom.
-
yes its seams i need one more up-grade before i can truly go toe to toe with maelstrom, maxons. with a solied drive system it would come down to a judges decision
-
Any way you could armor the drum motor? It seems like that got whacked pretty hard in one of the fights.
-
ya it got nailed pretty hard but it only really took superficial damage, the things a beast and it still spins, when i do get around to fixing it im going to replace the bearings in the motor and run a 3/16" ti shaft throught the whole drum/motor system making it one piece
-
nice. im (hopefullly) going to http://www.buildersdb.com/eventdetail.asp?eventID=292
-
What weight class?
-
ant!
-
Well I wish you good luck.
-
umm... its been canceled you know? read the Competition Description
-
oh right and heres this match
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82-ghcte6zA&feature=channel_page
-
Boy, you got it easy.
-
Heeeey... I see some of DinoVenger's bots were there. I didn't know he was still fighting. And it looks like he's doing quite well... Wheel Stealer 2 and LiveWire both look like tough bots.
Congrats on the success with Fangus. It will be tough for me to ever get back into real robot fighting with that kind of competition lurking about...
-
oh come on click, franklins coming up, you know you want to
ya he swept the beetles but he still need to fix box #5's blade throwing problem
-
Heeeey... I see some of DinoVenger's bots were there. I didn't know he was still fighting. And it looks like he's doing quite well... Wheel Stealer 2 and LiveWire both look like tough bots.

When there was a competition in my area the original LiveWire was a complete FAIL. Ill find the video of it.
-
ya the up-state new york robot battles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c1wVCsZSM0
-
Funny thing about Buster Blade...
-
my plans as of now
not going to the franklin comp
just bought a lathe
redesign and build the shuffle bot
rebuild fangus
finish this sweet little vd, trying some new building techniques with it
-
Looks like it's gonna be dangerous. No surprise there. AW or BW?
HA! Looks like I'm not the only one who uses paper and pencil to design bots.
-
Graph paper=pwnage.
-
ant, though it would make a very cool beetle and ya my cad trial ended :(
so click when you going to get Defy Ant back up and running?
-
is it going to be direct drive?
-
is it going to be direct drive?
I hope not. D.D. sucks in all weight classes.
-
i mean the bl outrunner to the weapon dd.
actually a lot of champion fws aws and bws are dd weapons. most shell spinners, overhead bar spinners, drum/eggbeaters, and undercutters are dd. just look at the builders db.
-
fangus is dd the outrunner is right in the drum, but this will be a belt drive with a 1:1 ratio
-
ok
what motor(s) are you using?
HA! Looks like I'm not the only one who uses paper and pencil to design bots.
i do too
-
turnigy 1900 kv for the weapon, and im switching all my ants to maxons for the drive
-
so i have some more progress on the vd, im very excited about it can\'t wait to finish and test it but i need to get a milling meching first, witch will be another two weeks at least :/ i will most likely cut the wedge points flush but for now they look cool =P
-
I would leave it like that unless its a weight issue, may keep other bots away from your sides/wheels better.
-
it depends on weight and right now its looking iffy, im very close to over and i don't have everything done yet but we'll see
-
awww sweet disc!!
and the weight wont matter much, it looks like he is kind of using a tread setup.
-
That chassis looks pretty cool.
...But what are you going to put on the disc now for damage? Or is that a small tooth i see on the top of the disc in your second pic?
-
im pretty sure hes gonna put some teath on it.
-
i haven't added teeth yet because of a lack of a milling meching but they are in the first pic at the point of the left wedge they will stick out from the disc 1/4" and 1/8" on the sides, oh right the disc is 3" in di (3 1/2" with teeth) and weights 4.5 oz
-
perfect for an ant
edit: mtf2's wep is only 3 oz, so its a little underweight.
-
i haven't seen it compete yet, do you have any vids
-
its kinda not finished yet.
just waiting for the new wep motor to come in.
-
some more stuff done still about two weeks away from my mill though :/
-
looks pretty nice!!
that saw thing in the background also looks nice, where did u get it?
-
harbor freight, its an 1/8" slot cutter but it only weights .75 oz i plan on using it for a fairy
and there cheap 8 bucks buys you a 1/8" and a 1/4" and they have a 1.75 dia
-
nice!
for my fary, im making an overheadbarspinner thing, hopefully that bar will be watterjetted titanium.
-
You might be able to narrow up the center section to save a little weight, but then I'm not an expert on this.
-
Are you planning to put the wheels on the rear and make it invertible ?
-
ya im ocd about that, i don't ever want to lose a match for such a stupid reason. it will have o-ring tank drive
-
Are you planning to put the wheels on the rear and make it invertible ?
for my fary? no its not gunna be invertible, its gonna be like tornado but much much smaller.
-
just wondering...
how big is the motor shaft?
-
3mm
-
k
i just got my new bl motor. shaft is 1/8 of an inch(to busy to convert it to mm)
it is exceed rc alpha 370 63m13( i got it for 12 bucks at hobbypartz.com)
has 1080 kv
gonna be a direct drive to a 2.5 oz blade.
-
kind of forgot about this but heres riptos first spin-up (without teeth) most of the sound is from the carbon fiber vibrating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WFPGtpWf18&feature=channel_page
-
hey it has the same rx as mine!
-
on another note i\'ve been redesigning fangus and am torn between two designs i like the one design better, but at the same time i really want to try the other one. I\'m looking forward to imput so feel free to post something and let me know what one YOU like better
and i forgot to add i\'m increasing the drum/beater size to 2 1/2" instead of the old 2"
-
I like the one on the right in the top picture
-
thats you one i want to try out but for some reason i like the other design a little bit better, idk mably i'll just build both
-
I should say I like the triangular one, it'll be more combat effective, but the other one looks better.
-
thats the same conflict im having
-
As Donald Hudson says: "Every builder wants there bots to look cool, but everything on all our bots has a purpose" (or something similar).
-
The rounded one looks like it would be stronger but the pointy one looks soooooo much cooler and much more stable.
-
I like the one with the wedge in the back. If your weapon gets shattered or something and you have to enter a fight weaponless, you can still fight as a wedgebot. Also it just plain looks cooler.
And Ripto is looking great. That's a thick disc for an AW.
-
I agree with everyone else the one on the left looks cooler but the one on the right would probably be a better decision. Ripto is looking pretty good i was just wondering how big the spikes are on ripto?
-
the teeth will have 1/4" of bite and with teeth the dics will have a 3/4" wide striking area
-
fangus 3.0\'s new drum/beater more progress to come, oh and its .05oz less then the old one
-
put the teeth in ripto\'s disc today
-
Looks violent.
-
Are you sure those screws will hold out?
-
alloy steel grade 10.9 plus there set into the disc so little stress is on the screws
-
booooom!
looks awesome
and another comment to sys32: upon impact(fling bot) the force will drive the teeth into the center of the disk, where that will easily take the blow. the screws are just there to make sure the teeth stay centered and dont fly out.
-
driving
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnGV0xPfyLc
and spinning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxDFxYUwSyo&feature=channel
and as always i need to change my batts =P
-
:O
That's one damn fast disc. And you said the batteries are almost dead. :P
-
that looks so cool, Im hoping to land a new job soon and get some extra money to put into a proper killer AW or BW robot
-
ya jobs help ALOT i have a 2k meching shop now thanks to mine so the only thing that really holds me up on building bots now is waiting for parts to ship ;)
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPyoM_WY_Xs
win
-
some quick pics now that i have it mostly togeather http://s363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/?action=view¤t=100_2700.jpg
-
Do you know how fast the spinner is?
-
14k rpm on a fully charged battery
-
Ripto came in first at the saxon bot battles!! and szalor came in 2nd, or 3rd not really sure
i only got riptos fight though and here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wmecjiiZlw
-
Did One Hit Kill even have a weapon? It just seemd to sit in the corner and twitch.
-
it had a rat trap flipper that only had on shot wich was the flip in the begining
-
Oh, I see. That explains the name, too.
-
Another perspective in that match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBTQpTW79rg&feature=channel He also has a Szalor video.
-
I think some rubber pads might make the shuffler grip a little better.
-
AWW SWEET!! thanks for finding those, and i do have grips on the shuffler its just slow :P i also had some electronics gremlins during szalors match makeing it so the left side wouldn't drive forward but i just improvised
-
Hmm, it seemed like it was slipping because in your original tests it seemed faster if I remember correctly.
-
ya it runs alot better on carpet, less bouncy
-
back from pennbots and i just finished uploeading all the videos http://www.youtube.com/user/botman64#p/u
ripto took 1st and szalor took 4th
-
Whos birthday was it?
-
thats the same thing someone else asked, but that was from the group that had the room before us =P
-
Why does Ripto bounce so much, is he like a crawler?
-
Shuffler.
-
ya the original version was a very fast and smooth o-ring tank dive but it was 4oz over weight so now it shuffles, takes away all the speed but has a massive intimidation factor
-
ZipDragon, are you going to build a robot for the 2010 Battlebots event?
-
that depends on where it is. i plan on going to robogames 2010 with a fleet and im also trying to get ready for moto, i should be taking 4 bots. i'll try to post up some progress here soon.
i don't have any plans on building at that weight class but if its close i might go as a spectator
-
is that bot 1 pound or 150g?
-
witch one? ripto is a 1 pounder
-
first one
-
fangus is a 1 pounder, i think everything i have in this thread are ones
-
My metal fab and the mechanics class are teaming up (UCLA) and the Dean is still trying to approve the budget and we'll be constructing a 109 pounder for the event.
-
On the topic of Battlebots, what is the 15Ib class about? I know one has more destruction, the other does not.
Edit: Danggit Battlebots says your weapon have to be an active system.
-
its just 15 pound combat, and the only reason its more destruction is because you have people who have never built verses teams that have been refining their building techniques for years. you end up with alot of fights between the brick sh** house drums and driving sheet metal boxes
roulette - what kind of bot are you planning?
-
Hopefully we will have a bot that is simple and effective, like Hazard.
-
just though i would up date the status of my bots and stuff
the new beetleweight version of Ripto is comming along nicely, all i really have left to do is build the weapon assembly
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Ripto/100_2869.jpg)
i have also been rebuilding the fangus's's's's, right now i have the frame for 2.2 and 3.0, 2.2 just being a slightly upgraded version of 2.1 and 3.0 haveing a bigger drum/beater and shuffling system
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Fangus/100_2833.jpg)
and last but not least i have do some work on crim my fairy, i had it up and running like this but im redesigning and rebuilding
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Crim/100_2806.jpg)
-
on your fairy what is the weapon motor ive been meaning to ask that
-
its this http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2108
its a bit of over kill but works great. and i use it with the turnigy 10amp speed controller
-
75g! kind of heavy for fairy/UK ant :(
-
thats the shipping weight, the motors weight is is under its description, its only 26 grams
-
oh whoops
-
That is some excellent craftmanship there!
Somebody get this man some GTM sponsorship decals!
I wish I had the time and money to get into building like that. You do a great job!
-
That is some excellent craftmanship there!
You do a great job!
Agreed
-
thanks guys, to be honest with you i need to find some faster manual machining processes because its taking me far to long to make stock of some parts
-
well im back from moto to

Nice job

NICE!
-
getting ready for pa bot blast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr7krktVQJU# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr7krktVQJU#)
-
Whoa. Good luck, man.
-
Nice! Wish i can be there. But the new blade for maniac Kathy has not came yet. And my ants are in bad shape and I can't figure out the new design for Swamp woman 2. but I will be entering in FI. Best of luck for your antweights and beetleweight.
-
Looking good. The slow motion hits are cool--you should film a match at that speed and then upload the highlights
-
It looks like you'll get some good bot launches out of that.
-
thats what i plan on doing, and i cant wait to see some of the weapon to weapon impacts at that speed
-
got the shuffle drum done and made a vid of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgZLDn1Mi-Y# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgZLDn1Mi-Y#)
and i also took some pics
http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Fangus/win-2.jpg (http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Fangus/win-2.jpg)
-
:D
Nice
-
Is that a walker?
-
sort of, its a shuffler
-
Nice! How is the progress on your beetleweight?
-
well i cut the two main frame rails yesterday before i went to work, so not much real progress. but i should have a lot done with it after this weekend though sense i dont have work :3 ill keep you posted. oh and i might be able to help you out with you new design for swamp woman after botblast, ill be in touch
-
Cool, Thanks!
-
whoa baby this things looking pretty!
http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Arcbeelte/CIMG0344.jpg (http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Arcbeelte/CIMG0344.jpg)
-
So far so good
-
awesome stuff
-
lol, lots of screws there.
-
What's the see-through part for?
-
looks like motor access ?
how much does it cost to put together a chassis like that ? and what materials do you use ?
-
Looks like he used UHMW Polyethylene plastic and Lexan Polycarbonate glass. Price really depends on sheet size, thickness and whats available on E-bay.
-
the poly carb is just there to strengthen the motor mount and it looks sweet =P and right now im going to say there's about 10$ worth of plastics there, i buy most of my uhmw off McMaster but ebays a good source to. and the base plates are galorite
-
back from the pa bot blast, it was absolutely awesome great matches all day. i took first in the ants and second in the beetles. i also got the award for coolest robot and most destructive robot. im going to start putting vid up tomorrow
-
congrats
-
awesome work
-
Cool. Congrats.
-
thanks everyone, so far i have pics up http://s363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/PA%20Bot%20Blast%202010/ (http://s363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/PA%20Bot%20Blast%202010/) but i havent been able to start with the videos yet
-
nice pictures there. now i really can't wait for the vids.
-
welll most of the vids are up, im putting the high speeds up as we speak, take a look and enjoy http://www.youtube.com/user/botman64 (http://www.youtube.com/user/botman64#p/a)
-
Very win.
-
I love that last hit against Bob Sago, It was epic and so was your whole match against Zip
-
just wait till i get the rest of them up, i put entropy off the top of the box twice, the second time it tore the drum off
-
You got a lot of sparks off the second to last hit on Sagot. I bet that looked really cool in real life.
-
WE WANT VIDZ!
Poor Zip. XD
-
yea it did =P ti is a real crowd pleaser
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXsFq0PQtzo# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXsFq0PQtzo#)
-
awesome, were you standing on the same side as that camera? or the other side?
-
well i was driving =P, but the other camera is in the corner, you can see it in the vid
-
well i was driving =P, but the other camera is in the corner, you can see it in the vid
I know you were driving.. but I dont exactly see any large sofa's where the drivers are sitting so one would assume your standing =P
so your were on the opposite side to the camera filming that last video ?
im only asking becasue I can see crowds, judges (or what looks like judges anyway) so I am trying to workout the layout for the arena
-
lot of nice fights. tho the 300FPS vids are annoyingly slow.
-
I love the HQ slow-mo stuff personally
-
well there were crowds on two faces of the arena then the judges table and drivers side
-
well ive already started for FI, i have one ant done yet to do is remodel Szalor into a shuffle bot with a big 7 1/2" bar build a new beetle, and help joey with SW2
oh and my theme for FI is hor spinners
this bot was a speed build, very simple design well see how it does but i feel the design need refinement. i designed this bot mon, started building tue, and finished it up here today
http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Zergling/CIMG0492.jpg (http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Zergling/CIMG0492.jpg)

-
Nice disc! I dunno, but a couple of these in DSL3 would be cool!
-
i agree there. looks very nice.
-
awesome, its like a miniature Surgeon General :gawe:
-
well i finally updated my website, you know its been awhile when you have more then 4 robots to add to the list XD anyway there is a full build report on zergling some of you might like. as for me im going to bed
-
well Misfortune is officially mine, it came in the mail the other day. so far i finished welding up the frame and remade one of the a123 battery packs, today im probable going to work on mounting the motors and re-aligning the beaters bearings.
http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Misfortune/img2522.jpg (http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Misfortune/img2522.jpg)
-
Did he rust?
-
ha lol ya theres alittle oxidation on it but its no big deal im just going to wire wheel it and paint it, any way the last version was very successful and im excited to see how it does agents a different caliber of building
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajl6Kanoa_s&feature=related# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajl6Kanoa_s&feature=related#)
-
Glad he got a new life lol. I'd probably leave it rusty if it weren't for the fact it weakens it.
-
Wow! awesome! Are you going to entered misfortune in FI as well?
-
i haven't decided yet it depends on what the competition looks like
-
i haven't decided yet it depends on what the competition looks like
You know you want to.
-
(http://img.chan4chan.com/img/2009-02-20/1235116693180.gif)
-
if it were more like moto maybe but i already plan on bringing 3 bots so i don't want to bring more then i can handle in one day
-
pay for my airfares and I will take a week off work to fly over and help you out =P
-
welll most of the vids are up, im putting the high speeds up as we speak, take a look and enjoy http://www.youtube.com/user/botman64 (http://www.youtube.com/user/botman64#p/a)
I like the foam bits flying everywhere off The Rake's wheels against Szalor. And Entropy's drum bouncing around the arena. :gawe:
-
next time im bringing some flood lights so the quality doesn't get destroyed again =P
-
And Entropy's drum bouncing around the arena. :gawe:
you that was mobile longer then the rest of the robot XD
awesome videos

update
i've built a new ant zergling and did a full build report for servo witch can be found here: (http://http://twistedsickrobotics.webs.com/zerglingbuildreport.htmi also have some progress on modding szalor, should be shuffling along nicely soon, now featuring a 4.5 oz bar vs the old 1.5oz http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Szalor/CIMG0530.jpg)
http://twistedsickrobotics.webs.com/zerglingbuildreport.htm (http://twistedsickrobotics.webs.com/zerglingbuildreport.htm)
and ive also done some work on modifying szalor
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Szalor/CIMG0530.jpg)
-
well i got some more progress on Szalor, been driving it around just to see how well it controls with the weight displacement
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Szalor/CIMG0531.jpg)
-
A bar walker ? :O
-
Looks great! can't wait to see it action in a few weeks
-
I think he is trying to interpret a dying breed of robots into each of his designs, Good Job!
-
Walkers combined with generic kit designs=YAY!
-
I think he is trying to interpret a dying breed of robots into each of his designs, Good Job!
Shufflers (this is not actually a true walker, but a shuffler, like the original Son of Whyachi) get a slight weight bonus, so he is able to use a bigger blade. This ain't no dying breed here... I expect that this Szalor is going to be a monstrously powerful AW.
-
Walkers combined with generic kit designs=YAY!
find me set kit and i will buy it for you
i just try to build with the KISS method, the more custom something is the more time you will have to devote to fixing it when it breaks. and any more i take 3+ robots to and event. whats wrong with building tried and true designs anyway? they consistently work with low maintenance. in the world of combat robotics what more could you ask for?
-
Walkers =/= K.I.S.S.
-
well the way i make them is rather simple and i haven't had anything break yet
-
yea
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/design%20scraps/CIMG0638.jpg)
-
woa!!!
-
awesome :gawe:
do you machine it all yourself ?
-
heck no =P had it water jetted
-
Hey Zip, if you still have RA2, maybe you could make a rep of one of your bots for RW2? IMO it'd be neat to see it.
-
ya when i get free time maybe, i seam to have none of that anymore
-
started work on torgr yesterday got quite a bit of progress
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/torgr/CIMG0663.jpg)
-
yea
*Awsm pic*
SHURIKEN FEVER.
-
all done, just going to test and see what kind of gyro ill have to deal with
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/torgr/CIMG0669.jpg)
-
all done, just going to test and see what kind of gyro ill have to deal with
That looks so kick-ass.
I want an antweight bot now.
-
lol this ones a beetle, but if you want on of the ant bars i would be more then happy to sell you one as soon as i harden them
-
:D
Reminds me of a 4WD Ruiner. We need some of your bots in DSL 3.
-
lol this ones a beetle, but if you want on of the ant bars i would be more then happy to sell you one as soon as i harden them
I always wanted to make a flipper TBH.
A mini dantomkia
-
Whoa! That looks awesome! Can't wait to see in action at FI! and I will be nervious if my bot fights your bot
-
ha im nervous just spinning the weapon just out of fear that it might explode!
-
Yup now lets all take a look at the recent happenings in the Near Chaos Robotics thread and see what could happen to this.
Real comforting isn't it zip?
-
yup, i guarantee mine won't rip into tree pieces though. maby two but not three =P
-
lol this ones a beetle, but if you want on of the ant bars i would be more then happy to sell you one as soon as i harden them
few questions...
how long is it?
how much?
and will you post to Australia? (I will pay for postage too)
that is if you can send that kind of stuff :P
-
pick one and ill give you full specks and price
-
Im sorry to sound clueless but do you mean one of these? :P
yea
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/design%20scraps/CIMG0638.jpg)
-
yup, i dont have any more of the one tooth disc in the top left hand corner or and of the fairy hammer bars, just though i would let you know
-
how about the larger triangular weapons ?
-
2.7oz, 4.5" swing, three .2" holes, .5" from the center at 120 degree intervals for the bolt pattern, 20$ for the disc + however much shipping would be
-
*pulls out calculator and paper*
cost wont be a problem I dont think... if you able to do it as an international envelope its $3-$10 on the USPS site's quotes
if im reading right it will occupy a vertical height of 11.43cm ?
I will get back to you after I got all the electronics together ;)
-
Congrats on the performance at FI. I'll let you share the details.
-
thanks, as for the details szalor took first in ants, zergling took second in ants, and torgr took third in the beetles. the little spinning tortoise thingy (ant) witch i was driving most of the time took third, and spinning tortoise (beetle) took third
and i want to thank mike for all his help with both my robots and rj's it was a busy day and he saved my ass on more then one occasion
(http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo76/botman64/Franklin%20cup%202010/CIMG0745.jpg)
-
1st and 2nd? Did you fight yourself?
-
I drove Zergling for him the two times they met in the brackets, also, quick correction, Spinning Tortoise got 2nd in beetles
-
yup, twice. i didn't get a chance to get any video of it though but im sure someone out there has it
-
whoops i was thinking second but typed third =P
-
Congratz
I think our antweights are fun (150g), I think you call them fairyweights :D
How heavy are your beetleweights? Are they similar to our raptorweights (6kg)?
-
they would be alot closer to 1 1/2 kilos, little less actually. and ya the fairy's are fun and easy to build, im going to try and have two for moto
-
*wwooooooorssssshhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppsssss*
-
awesome stuff, congrats
hearing stuff like this makes me wish we had such activity down here.. its going to be forever an ambition of mine to start up a competition circuit down here :gawe:
-
bump
I saw Jukid on the Builders Database Zip, looks cool.
If you guys wanna see it it's here:
http://www.buildersdb.com/botdetails.asp?eventid=326&BotID=8339 (http://www.buildersdb.com/botdetails.asp?eventid=326&BotID=8339)
-
looks nice, but how effective is that axe?
-
I think it's a lifter/clamp like Complete Control, there are servos powering the bottom dustpan..
-
oh ok.
-
robot suplex http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150173608297067#&comments (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150173608297067#&comments)
-
That's cool. :D
-
thanks mate, easy build to XD
-
So is this a serious robot, or a prototype for a real robot?
-
its a cheap serious robot. i had a bunch of servos laying around and wanted to get some good use out of them. if i like how it performs then ill rebuild it using so higher end parts
