i gotta admit it seems like it has poor control and looks to heavy and big to be an antweight

Well, it wasn't much bigger than a soda can.
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: Lupus on June 13, 2008, 12:31:38 PM
yeh but have cans are reasonably big, plus im pretty sure its bigger than the size limit and i bet its over 1kg's and 1 more thing that wouldnt be aloud in robot wars its a violation of health and safety.*sigh*

but still it looks nice and it would mince anty B

The soda can combo is really nice. I like this small drum.

Yeah, this looks pretty big to me, for an AW. I've seen antweights with the fourth of the volume of this bot.

Post by: zipdragon64 on June 13, 2008, 08:57:07 PM
its a us (1 lb) antweight and the only reason it looks like it has poor control is because its in a 4x4 box and i didn't want to slam into the walls and how is it  a violation of health and safety when you battle is a lexan fight box

in england it would be a violation of health and safety don't ask ME why it is

Hey, it's a working bot, which is more than most people on this forum can say they have.

If you ask me it looks pretty awesome.

im still designing my antweight i haven't been paying attention to it in ages, plus zipdrag are you in america or england ?
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: kill343gs on June 18, 2008, 07:25:36 PM
I would assume america because he i s following an amaerican system of weight (1lb).

The bot looks nice. I've though of building a robot as of recently, I just don't really have the funds to start in such an expensive hobby right now.

I have a real, real working bot (I mean he does a job). It's a Roomba, he cleans our house.
And I have a working R2D2, he doesn't do a job, but he brings me a can of beer sometimes.

Oh,btw: The bot is cool. Well done Zipdragon!

I would put some wheel guards - plus the weapon motor wires are exposed.

What's the point of the two yellow trapezoids at the rear of the bot ?
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: zipdragon64 on December 30, 2008, 08:23:16 PM
i already have wheel guards planned just haven\'t got to them yet and they will protect the weapon motor\'s wires to it will be just like this when its all done

I don't know, but I would be a bit cautious about using a belt in that. VSs could have ability to throw them off of their sprockets (is that the right word?)

(pulleys) but close enough ;) theres not much i can do about it, i've made the groves on the pulleys as deep as i can so hopefuly i won't have this problem plus i have like 6 spare belts, after all there just ebay o-rings

The noise is scary.

How many RPMs?
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: zipdragon64 on February 14, 2009, 07:56:35 PM
well in a perfect word the motor should be spinning at 14,060 on a 7.4v battery and with a little less then a 1.5:1 ratio it should be pulling around 9400 rpm-ish with a 5 1/2" blade not bad i guess

Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: Madiaba on February 17, 2009, 08:19:00 AM
That's nice, Zip. Well designed and built, IMHO.

A few suggestions to check out, since I cannot see it myself (and you may already know):
- I would check your driven assembly's (hub and blade) static and dynamic balances. Considering it's turning around 10k rpm, the vertical depth of your hub, and the length of your blade, it wouldn't take allot to get imbalances. The scews on your hub are not the same height; I don't know what's under the hub.
-From working with dragster engines and blowers that turn at that speed, imbalance will sop up power quickly and load the support structures(esp. bearings) that strive to hold it in check. ACAMS can also verify what I say here. Some electric motor shops can balance it for you. BTW: For a reference, the more 'whiney' it sounds the better it's balanced, but the more it sounds like a 'buzzer' the worse. From listening to it on your vid, both the buzzer noise and the variation in rpm point toward rotational imbalance.

I quickly googled and found this illustration. The static balance would relate more toward your blade, the dynamic toward your hub/pulley:
Static Imbalance:
(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/helpStaticImbal.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)Occurs when there is a heavy or light spot in the tire that prevents the tire from rolling evenly and causing the tire and wheel to undergo an up-and-down motion.(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)
Dynamic Imbalance:
(http://www.discounttire.com/images/helpDynamImbal.gif)Occurs when there is unequal weight on one or both sides of the tire/wheel assembly's lateral centerline, thus creating a side-to-side wobble or wheel shimmy. (http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)(http://www.discounttire.com/images/kotspacer.gif)The static imbalance creates a hop or vertical vibration. The dynamic imbalance creates a side-to-side or wobbling vibration. Most assemblies have both types of imbalance, and require dynamic balancing (commonly referred to as spin balancing) to create even weight distribution.

Hope this helps. Just trying to share useful info...Spyguy will nail me again(hehe).

Why are they all green and black nowadays? MikeNCR might have some copyrighting to do.
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: zipdragon64 on July 05, 2009, 03:50:23 PM
the green is from the lexan noise makers i got from moe (team 365 first robotics) and the black is the defalt garolite color i bought and i didn't feel like scraping the paint off the lexan

oh ya, i cut out some peaces for the shuffle bot but untill i buy my lathe or get access to one i can't make the drum/beater
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: Weirdo on July 06, 2009, 06:27:39 AM
I wasn't complaining about the green and black, personally I think its quite a good colour combination, I was just making an observation.
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: zipdragon64 on July 06, 2009, 07:43:46 AM
the hor bar is suposed to have garolite on the top to but i made a cut on the wrong side on my line and ended up 1/8 short and the only other color i have at the moment is blue so i just threw some lexan on it there happens to be no difference in weight so why not
Title: twisted sick robotics
Post by: roboman2444 on July 06, 2009, 06:35:14 PM
wow nice.
the only thing that i dislike about the drum bot is that the rings around the motor kinda get in the way of the actual wep.
other than that its a good looking bot.

i just started a summer job so i might be able to actually finish some of my bots.

When there was a competition in my area the original LiveWire was a complete FAIL. Ill find the video of it.

i mean the bl outrunner to the weapon dd.

actually a lot of champion fws aws and bws are dd weapons. most shell spinners, overhead bar spinners, drum/eggbeaters, and undercutters are dd. just look at the builders db.
Title: twisted sick robotics

fangus is dd the outrunner is right in the drum, but this will be a belt drive with a 1:1 ratio

so i have some more progress on the vd, im very excited about it can\'t wait to finish and test it but i need to get a milling meching first, witch will be another two weeks at least :/ i will most likely cut the wedge points flush but for now they look cool =P

I would leave it like that unless its a weight issue, may keep other bots away from your sides/wheels better.

i haven't added teeth yet because of a lack of a milling meching but they are in the first pic at the point of the left wedge they will stick out from the disc 1/4" and 1/8" on the sides, oh right the disc is 3" in di (3 1/2" with teeth) and weights 4.5 oz

harbor freight, its an 1/8" slot cutter but it only weights .75 oz i plan on using it for a fairy

I like the one with the wedge in the back.  If your weapon gets shattered or something and you have to enter a fight weaponless, you can still fight as a wedgebot.  Also it just plain looks cooler.

And Ripto is looking great.  That's a thick disc for an AW.

that depends on where it is. i plan on going to robogames 2010 with a fleet and im also trying to get ready for moto, i should be taking 4 bots. i'll try to post up some progress here soon.

On the topic of Battlebots, what is the 15Ib class about? I know one has more destruction, the other does not.

Edit: Danggit Battlebots says your weapon have to be an active system.
Title: Re: twisted sick robotics
Post by: zipdragon64 on December 25, 2009, 09:48:21 PM
its just 15 pound combat, and the only reason its more destruction is because you have people who have never built verses teams that have been refining their building techniques for years. you end up with alot of fights between the brick sh** house drums and driving sheet metal boxes

roulette - what kind of bot are you planning?

i have also been rebuilding the fangus's's's's, right now i have the frame for 2.2 and 3.0, 2.2 just being a slightly upgraded version of 2.1 and 3.0 haveing a bigger drum/beater and shuffling system

looks like motor access ?

how much does it cost to put together a chassis like that ? and what materials do you use ?

Looks like he used UHMW Polyethylene plastic and Lexan Polycarbonate glass. Price really depends on sheet size, thickness and whats available on E-bay.

Post by: zipdragon64 on July 13, 2010, 12:43:04 PM
the poly carb is just there to strengthen the motor mount and it looks sweet =P and right now im going to say there's about 10$ worth of plastics there, i buy most of my uhmw off McMaster but ebays a good source to. and the base plates are galorite

well i was driving =P, but the other camera is in the corner, you can see it in the vid

I know you were driving.. but I dont exactly see any large sofa's where the drivers are sitting so one would assume your standing =P

so your were on the opposite side to the camera filming that last video ?

im only asking becasue I can see crowds, judges (or what looks like judges anyway) so I am trying to workout the layout for the arena

well ive already started for FI, i have one ant done yet to do is remodel Szalor into a shuffle bot with a big 7 1/2" bar build a new beetle, and help joey with SW2
oh and my theme for FI is hor spinners
this bot was a speed build, very simple design well see how it does but i feel the design need refinement. i designed this bot mon, started building tue, and finished it up here today

Shufflers (this is not actually a true walker, but a shuffler, like the original Son of Whyachi) get a slight weight bonus, so he is able to use a bigger blade.  This ain't no dying breed here... I expect that this Szalor is going to be a monstrously powerful AW.

Walkers combined with generic kit designs=YAY!

find me set kit and i will buy it for you

i just try to build with the KISS method, the more custom something is the more time you will have to devote to fixing it when it breaks. and any more i take 3+ robots to and event. whats wrong with building tried and true designs anyway? they consistently work with low maintenance. in the world of combat robotics what more could you ask for?

its a cheap serious robot. i had a bunch of servos laying around and wanted to get some good use out of them. if i like how it performs then ill rebuild it using so higher end parts
