now i'm not sure on whether to make my ant a bar spinner or a shell spinner when I build it, mainly because i've never seen an antweight shell spinner ( maybe for a very good reason ) and i'd like to see how it would do

Assuming you mean UK ant, there's a few-

http://buildersdb.com/botdetails.asp?botid=4080

I imagine it's mostly an issue of finding the weight for a shell that's strong enough to survive and a baseplate that's strong enough to handle the hits at that size.

once i've got the motor, lipo, etc i think i'll just try a few different spinner types and see how it goes but i'll start off with a simple bar spinner

Can also try an ant ringspinner.

I'd probably reccommend attempting something simpler

Just an idea. Think it would be fun to see something like it.

had another idea for minor tom's shell,
construction should start in the next week or so and I should have it running as soon as I can afford the esc's

Just a little tip, it's generally better to build the chassis around the components  ;)

I need your guys opinions on this, should I wait and save for my feather's esc's or should I start work on my antweight spinner because I have just about enough money to finish it ?
edit: this is what I have been working on in dt for about a month too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC3l9NHUrFQ&feature=related#ws

and would I be able to wire 2 batteries at different voltages in series, e.g a 6v battery and a 12v battery or would that cause a short ? because if it won't i'm going to wire them in series tomorrow as batteries for my featherweight

Bad idea... work out your dimensions before you cut anything. Make a CAD first. And by CAD I mean cardboard assisted design. Lay out all your parts on a piece of cardboard larger than your planned size. Arrange your robots parts in their planned configuration on the cardboard, and cut it down to the smallest size, while still protecting your components. And that's just one way to size your robot.
