Active Bots:
Scutlet V3
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/46535Scutlet V3.png)
Motors: 2x Servos
Weapon: Wedge
-
wow big pics, too big nice bot btw
-
it has immense power on those servos but they might be too heavy
-
Edit: stuff happened... this post is now irrelevant. :P
-
Ooh Meccano.
-
Where do the battery box and receiver attach?
-
Eww, servo drive.
-
Where do the battery box and receiver attach?
battery ontop and reciever at the back
-
A wedge bot?
-
kind of
-
ok AW is finished!
will post some pics and a vid but my ca,era needs recharging
-
YAYS IT IS FINISHED!!!

US or UK Ant? If US ant it is slow. You might want to switch out the servos for gearmotors. I am not that familiar with UK ants so I don't know. Good job on your first build.
-
UK Ant.
150g.
-
lloop is correct
-
lloopp is correct.
Fixed.
-
So it's a US fairy weight.
-
Ja.
-
I would not consider that to be a regular Antweight due to the fact is is pretty much helpless, and I do not want to see good servos go to waste. If I were you, I would enter that as a sumo robot so there is less damage (and debt) involved on your first robot.

StagMite (FW) is in planning stage.
So far i've found

Alright here is some advice.
Read Kickin Bot By Grant Imahara. (Guy from Mythbusters). Good advice for any builder.
Don't use drill batteries. They take way to long to recharge. Check out some NICADS http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/batteries_battlepacks_nicad.html I'm not saying you should buy from there because of pricing but it is worth a check.
Motors: Two 12 volt motors might be a little skimpy for a Featherweight I know guys who use two drill motors on their 12lbs bots. I'd say at least 4 motors if you dont have an active weapon. I run 4 18 volts and Shish can push me. (I weigh 160 lbs)
Speed controllers: Vantecs are awsome!! They are an all in 1 speed controller for drive. I use a RFDR 22 in Shish-Kabot. http://vantec.com/acatalog/spdcat.html (The RFDR 21 should be fine for your purpose)
UHMW plastic is a great construction material but very heavy.
What kind of wheels are you planning on using? 4-5 inch wheels will get you about 10-14 MPH (I don't know the specs of the motors just guessing based on other bots) If you go bigger you run the risk of stripping the gears in the gearbox. (I know from experience)
Do you plan to have an active weapon on planned for that? If it is just a pusher you might want to consider a wedge bot.
Any questions just let me know and good luck!
-
Removed that design and went for something a little easier, I've just finished the chassis and I will post pics soon!
-
It's spelled scorpiOn. :P
-
My ant now
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/11790Antweight.png)
And motor one is done for my FW!
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/85316Motor Diagram.png)
-
heeeyyyy something I know stuff about :P R/C car stuff to be exact
do I read 21 turn on that motor ? also im interested on your battery charger and battery life LOL
-
That battery/wires are hecka exposed on the AW
-
Stag: Motor looks way too small and doesn't have a gearbox to make the output RPMs usable. You really might want to invest in using 18 Volt drill motors like these. http://kitbots.com/product.sc;jsessionid=3C124443C74D993BADBED88DDC5CEFAD.qscstrfrnt02?productId=6&categoryId=1 (http://kitbots.com/product.sc;jsessionid=3C124443C74D993BADBED88DDC5CEFAD.qscstrfrnt02?productId=6&categoryId=1)
Or motors like these http://banebots.com/ (http://banebots.com/)
Play around with this to try to find the best motor/wheel combination that you can afford.
http://members.toast.net/joerger/squid/newtorquecalc.htm (http://members.toast.net/joerger/squid/newtorquecalc.htm)
I also would try to stay away from RC car/truck parts. They are designed to move a 3lbs car not a 30 lbs combat robot. The amp draw on the Speed controller would be too great and it will fry.
I recomend Vantec speed controllers http://vantec.com/acatalog/spdcat.html (http://vantec.com/acatalog/spdcat.html)
They have single stick mixing so you drive with one joystick on your controller and you only need one vantec to drive up to 4 motors. (2 each side) You either need a RDFR 21 or a RDFR 22.
Also ditch the RC car battery because they charge slow weigh a lot have low voltage (7.2volts or less) and dont have much capability.
-
Does it use DSA?
-
Does it use DSA?
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
-
Lol'ed.
-

My Traxxas Monster Truck is a bit more then 3lbs but has a much bigger ESC then that... my current drive motor is the max size for it (22,000 to 23,00RPM geared to drive) so I would say that ESC may not handle an RC of that size...
its probably a more suited to something like an AW set up, I would suggest (if you want to use R/C stuff) Venom R/C Batteries have a good power charge time ratio but the weight would be an issue.
I spent a bit over $100 for my ESC.. but I paid a bit more for a waterproof version (something you wont need to for a robot)
-
And motor one is done for my FW!
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/85316Motor Diagram.png)
BUMP
I would suggest that you use a more powerful drill motor than that, as it won't be able to turn a 13kg robot, even running it on 12V (trust me, I tried it, the motor blew).
Also, is it a s/c for each motor? As that one looks underpowered.
And what is your budget for the feather?
-
The newest Ant!
Ace
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/37445Ace.png)
Strengths: Very Fast
Weapon: Aluminium Spike
Weaknesses: Reliabilty problems, Can only turn right.
Drive: Geared basic 1.5 V motor
He can make holes in cardboard but it's main weapon is probabley its speed.
-
I have one of those cars.
-
They work well
-
may I suggest a better attachment method then what appears to be sticky tape.
if you doing this as a non competitive hobby I would use industrial glues froma hardware store.. you can get some strong enough to hold 50kg, makes a lot better attachment and can be cut away with a knife if need be.
-
The spike is attached with industrial glue from a hardware store, the tape just got stuck there and I'm wasnt bothered to take it off.
-
Scutlet V2 now has a spring powered flipper! I will post pics sometimes.
-
MIne was a non competitive hobby but I still got trashed.
ANyway nice bot stag.
-
I was going to say the spike looks brittle right now :P
You might want to put it horizontally like Vladiator did.
-
Bump
Do you have to pay for tickets when signing up for an event on Roamingrobots? I'm also buying a battleant kit.
-
why did you change the team name!?!??!?!?1?!?
-
Scorpion was taken on the roaming robots database.
-
Ah, yeah, ofcourse.
-
nice :P cant wait to see your feather in action then we will fight mahahahahaah

no

:D
Has a flipper and its very fast.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/68451FBlike.JPG)
-
Cool, what can it flip?
-
It flipped Scutlet over.
-
You should paint it.
-
That looks quite good. =D Is it able to self-right?
-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peI4S3XLUPQ# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peI4S3XLUPQ#)
Yeah it can, in that video the flipper mechanism fell out.
-
Cool indeed, although graham?
You're supposed to give your bot OTT insane names like bleedingmetaldeathdestroyervomitcannibalrottingcorpse :p
-
Graham is a good name.
-
yeah, Graham is a strange robot name.
-
Name it something that sounds epic, like Megalolythical. (Not even sure if that's a real word though)
-
I'll probabley remake the flipper and have it direct to the servo, the mechanism isnt very powerful.
-
You should tie something else onto Graham. Name it Awesome Graham or something similar. =P
I think you might want to consider moving the arm for the lifter a bit further away from the hinge. It'd make it easier to lift the arm up, and you could lift a bigger weight with it.
-
While driving one of the servos lost all power. The motor was spinning, but it wasnt spinning the gears.
-

True but he would get less travel from the arm. Also I'm not to sure about the entire frontal armor lifting up and exposing the jucy insides, lack of bottom armor and the effeciveness of a lifter in the antweight class if the US ants are anything to go by.
-
Cool bot Stag.
-
SKBT, It has bottom armour.
-
Its the battleant kit, which is overweight by 100g
-
120g, i just checked with my scales.
-
Sure? Some stats somewhere say they're 250g
-
I know, my one should theoretically be lighter with my 6 gram receiver.
-
checked, the battleant kit is a superant, weighing 250g
-
I already know, you told me.
-
the effeciveness of a lifter in the antweight class if the US ants are anything to go by.
its the UK.. all their robots flip :P
-

lol not all mine do XD

Our arenas are perfect for flippers :P
-
It's the one surefire way of beating any opponent in the UK, throwing them OOTA.
-
Swapped the flipper for an axe, the servo just wasnt strong enough.
-
how powerful is the axe? will it be able to pierce trough some armour? will you still be able to self-right?
-
can we see a new pic?
-

If I had a front scoop so the front doesnt lift itself up while axing it might get through stuff. Its mainly for grabbing things. It can self-right.
-
I got some lego stuff today and made a bot, then decided to have a 3-way battle, I could have had it 4-way but my sister is a typical 14 year old.

Darn Scutlet is so slooooooooooow.
-
:D
-
No posts?
-
Scutles is slow as heck. XD Graham's hammer is surprisingly not that damaging, from what I could make out.
-
My brother wasnt actually lowering it completely, he was moving the toggle stick up and down too fast.
-
Well at least Graham doesn't move at Scutletspeed D:
-
Average, won't stand a chance against the new Spark
-
That ain't actually a bad tactic. Attach your drive to a chain and put spikes on your wheel and you have a flailing weapon! :P
-
Average, won't stand a chance against the new Spark
So your the master now are you?
-
Average, won't stand a chance against the new Spark
So your the master now are you?
No :P, those ants are good for what I call, the build in a day ants, I have seen MUCH worse
All I'm saying is that the "build in a day ants" will never stand a chance against the properly constucted ones
-
so if I procrastinate for a few months while building an AW.. it will be unstoppable as it wasnt built in one day :gawe:
-
so if I procrastinate for a few months while building an AW.. it will be unstoppable as it wasnt built in one day :gawe:
No :P, all that I meant was that ants made of cardboard & lego are never going to be a threat
-
But Graham is 3mm polycarbonate.
-
Have you seen ochayedonald's Lego Robot Wars on Youtube? That seems to be more what you're going for here. Graham in particular reminds me of some of the bots in that series.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/7436SUNP0044.JPG)
Built this a couple of weeks back.
-
omg I have that little RC car thing too
-
I think someone else said they had it too (G.K.?).
-
I wish you built bots as well as you build battleboxes :P
-
I wish you built bots as well as you build battleboxes :P
Or he could build lego robots if you have Legos Stag.
Then, if you wanted to get fancy you could put hazards in it as well. :gawe:
-

Yarp.
-
Looks like it is still Christmas where Stag is...
Also, I had an arena like that when I was about 7. I made it out of stuff in the garage and a hammer. The arena had a flipper and a pit that worked via some levers & motion. I was always good at stuff like that.
-
I have that RC car too! ;)
-
Good job on your first build.
Seconded!
