I'm sensing a problem with the wedge. It might fold under itself, making it useless.
Make a shell spinner! :P
Or you could make a real life EMERGENCY :P
Make a replica of SFTW. :gawe:
Or you could make a real life EMERGENCY :PYou stole my idea!
On topic: Maybe you could give Shish more power, like a pair of 150-Ampflow motors.

I'm already pushing 4 hp with what I got in it now. I might switch to dewalts though but that would require a bigger vantec and a battery with more capability.

Just FYI, in Apollyon I'm running 18v dewalts on 6s with the Holmes Hobby SC, and in Moros, 5s with the same speed controller. They work well and aren't too pricy at $100 a piece.
Were they the ones you were telling me about at the Franklin?
Could you give me a link to them?
30lb:So you've finally seen sense :P
flipper bot (un named, un decided basically just an idea right now)
30lb:High Pressure I presume?

Thats high pressure :P30lb:High Pressure I presume?

I was thinking unregulated CO2.
When you said high pressure I thought you were referring to HPA. :PIf you're interested, Explosion uses the following:
There is the "dead zone" between the bumper and the lexan at Robogames but NERC doesn't have a "dead zone".
I'm not too keen on the American flipper designsYeah, I never really got a hold on why American flipper designs are more boxy compared to the UK's.
I prefer a wedge design, which do seem to work better IMO
I think that a bot like Toro looks cooler than Iron Awe, but Iron Awe is more effective by a long shot. Toro style throws upwards, Iron Awe throws bots farther away to get them over guardrails and stuff.Technically speaking though, would it be more efficient to have a arm go vertically up with little change, than a huge sheet that travels in a more circular motion. You'd have more force, speed, and less drag.

Make sure you put the "nudge" on the panels so the bot is accurate. :)
If Doorstop had a drum weapon, I would love it even more. =D
Flipper looking great, what are you going to be using as armour?
Wary of how much a lack of buffer tank will effect it though :/
Well, a buffer and smaller gas bottle could infact get you more flips. For example, Kronic has 2 gas bottles and no buffers, but IA6 has 1 gas bottle and two buffers. Iron Awe gets a lot more flips, and is more powerful due to having space to allow expansion, whereas in Kronic, liquid gets through the system and into the ram, wasting a lot of gas.Flipper looking great, what are you going to be using as armour?
1/16" lexan on the bottom, 1/16" Ti for outer shell and 1/8" chromoly rear plowWary of how much a lack of buffer tank will effect it though :/
My system only gets 12 shots without a buffer tank. If I add one more air will be needed to pressurize the system which will take away from the total shots I have which is already very low. Buffer tanks are typically only needed to make up for a "low flowing" component in a system such as after a regulator. As of now it's better not to have a buffer tank.
600ml or 20oz depending on where you are in the world.Ah, we use Burkets :D
I only get 12 shots because I have a low pressure system that opens and closes the full pressure system.
Not bad. =) Have you considered adding a small skid on the back to keep the front end down when it accelerates?
Yep, very good idea, benefits Explosion greatlyNot bad. =) Have you considered adding a small skid on the back to keep the front end down when it accelerates?

It's almost done
With planned armor it will weigh an anorexic 24lbs (10.8kg).Will it also fall onto its side comically each fight yet somehow make it back up again?
I'm really liking it. Reminds me of pele.Pele was only a pound....
2,700lbs of thrustThat's a lot of thrust. Should be very powerful.

Now get working on those attachments!I did, the plow that I posted at the top of the page can also be mounted on Phoenix. I also came up with stupidly simple anti crusher armor that isn't worthy of a picture.
Looks nice, still a little concerned about the lack of a buffer tank
What motors are you using in there?
Looks awesome, I'm only worried about the seemingly fragile stuff at the back a bit.
Hope you can drive well :)
So I have some sad news to report. My source of drive motors (Harbor Freight 18v drill motors) dried up. I don't have any spares so as of now I have no way of maintaining three robots through one event so currently I'm debating about pulling Shish, and DoorStop and only running Phoenix unless I can find some replacements. I don't have money for dewalts or banebots gearboxes so don't suggest them. This looks like it may be exact-
Stats I'm looking for for the motors are 550 RPM after the gearbox, 18v, size RS550 motor, single speed
The motors looked like this (http://www.teamrollingthunder.com/Kitbots/550_Drill_motors/cordless_drill_motor_550.jpg) and the drills looked like this (http://www.manufacturer.com/upload/product/6537031/Cordless+drill_0_desc.jpg) if you see anything like that drill in a store PM me with the details; brand, store, ect.
The guy who made Minifridge is selling me some.G.K.? :gawe:
For the record having a plow that weighs 6.5 lbs when the rest of your robot weighs 5.5 lbs is a bad idea...
Mini Phoenix?
I'm guessing it's going to have a Pneumatic Spike?Mini Phoenix?
Nope,
I'll give another hint
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/5226photo(10).JPG)
11" stroke, 1.5" dia ram, 2 DeWalts
and the bot is not a flipper
It's a hammer, I think.Ah yes, because of that hookly thing on the end of the piston?

Hey SKBT, I noticed you aren't registered for Motorama. Something come up?
Are you sure that's really going to fly? Aerodynamics is complicated stuff...
It'll be cool if it does fly though.

I subscribe to the "Brick Thrust Theory". (the idea that with enough power anything can fly)

Moto is the last weekend of the "build window" for FIRST, and I was told I needed to be around to finish the build.
Shish-Kabot looks like vladiator with poker.
Vid please.Its in Mike's thread
wtf is that??A primitive example of a blueprint. It was found inscribed on the wall of a cave in the region of southern Egypt. :gawe:
Sweet. Is there a Dick Dastardly to go with it or is it just Muttley?(http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/484057_507907112568817_222647587_n.jpg)
it's been built almost in the style of your RA2 bots.I fully support the use of a large bash bar... RA2 or IRL
wonder if wheelguards of some description would have been useful.yeah... about that... it got a wheelectamy pretty much every fight. Wheel guards will be added before it fights next.
Odd, the only damage I see are the wheels on the back.
Also, I love the use of extra lite flites(Lets see who else knows what I'm talking about)
To make it cool obviously.Camber wheels don't work in real life.
Also camber the wheels.

It's not very hard to angle motor mounts breh
I was talking to MikeNCR on FB and then this idea happened. This is just a quick sketchup sketch to get the idea out.Maybe you can turn this into the world's first ever popup, idk, maybe by making the flipper shorter and making the end look like a hook....

I'm thinking 30lb pneumatic front hinged launcher.
HF drill drive 3" wheels, low pressure, maybe 2.5" bore ram cause I have one lying around.
I can't see how that would be worth the effort. Surely a proper flipper would work a lot better in real life.
I'm not saying people shouldn't, just I can't see why they would when it wouldn't really work.I can't see how that would be worth the effort. Surely a proper flipper would work a lot better in real life.
The 30 pound sportsmans class is about having fun and experimenting with designs, not beating everybody.

I can't think of anyone involved in competitive robotics that isn't a tryhard. I think you have to be :P
Shouldn't the lock nuts be on the other way?
Shouldn't the lock nuts be on the other way?
yes but i don't want to lock yet. i need to take it apart again to wire it

done and comically underweight at 2lb 6oz
Spin-up is going to suck anyway because he's using direct drive.(https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/188678_585603861465808_1752849250_n.jpg)

Make a heavier disc. Or would that affect the spin-up time too much?
How much is autodesk inventor?Yeah about that....

it should move faster now
Nice CAD. Does this spell the end for the original Shish-Ka-Bot though? Will it be salvaged for parts?
You should name it Cave Johnson, and put a old aperture logo from portal 2 on the wedge.sylandro, shut up

lel internet meme xd
Perfect name.
Hell yeah!Perfect name.wedge-kabot?
Neat. Shame the wedge isn't happening. Can't wait to see Robo-Rooter and Muttley at Bot Blast.
edit: Oh wait, I see you pulled Muttley. Why?
Doesn't look that bad tbh, but it's just a photo. New left wheel, re-bolt the wheelguards and push the safety link back inside the chassis and it should be good as new.
Oh geez. Thought you were gonna have wheel guards.
Finally doing Doorstop with the drum huh?
Phoenix looks like an Inertia Labs bot. Very nice.
wedge:bot ratio too small
I'd agree, IIRC that same type of o-ring got shredded by an ant at bot blast. Knowing you though you probably have some.
Don't you have a vantec?
DPBut that's my team's gimmick D:

are those hobbyweight drive motors :O
this thing is gonna be like etek on a lightweight fast
Seriously hoping i can shear a wheel off before you get under me
Can this thing even go in a straight line?
so.... Dumb Post Motorama Idea #1 actually won a fight.... and then fell in the pit and then did it again. and i think i grudge like 1/2 the 3lbs there.Neat.Can this thing even go in a straight line?
the answer is

should be suplexing soon
Nice. What's the clamp arm made of?
Wheelguards look thicker now.
Will it be at Franklin?
i don't think i've actually seen a finished picture of your 3lb. whats your blade height at?
