Snappy in particular is looking really good. It's come a long way. And you know how I feel about the mouse houses already.

Very retired. I still have a design for a TNP2 around.

hey, I recognize twin headed death flamingo, I saw it at the Portsmouth extreme robots event, it was pretty cool but a large number of kids and adults compared to a lonely lil teenage boy was rather surprising. Did your team make it or nah?

I was one of the people that built it, yes. Two-Headed Death Flamingo is a team of 4 people, often joined by Rory from Nuts who helps us maintain it, and our respective partners. The youngest of any of us at Portsmouth was 21. If you were at any show that wasn't the first on Saturday, you'll have also seen my featherweight, the big pink one :)

Related, event report for Mingo from Portsmouth, where we finished the competition in 3rd place!

Thought it'd be fun to do a summative post of the 4 years of evolution on Snappy. Hardly anybody's first bot is a piece of art, the best way to build something cool is to start, and improve! Only now am I getting to the point where Snappy is actually the robot I wanted to build when I started.

Very proud of where it's at, and looking forward to taking it to BBB this weekend then Bugglebots and the European Championships later in the year!

Liking the new snappy. Servo under a full body length lifter it looks like?

Yep! A lot of people are critical of not having a hard linkage from the servo to the lifter but I've found it really advantageous. Verts hitting the wedge just tend to throw the wedge back instead of the entire bot, plus no broken servo. It means I don't get optimal power but as long as it can lift bots, that's all that matters I think.

Hmmm good point. You wouldn't be able to self-right either way so it doesn't cost you anything. I like it

Over the summer I'll actually be upgrading it with a 270degree servo so we should have a decent shot at self righting!

I see this area of the forum is dead in general but wow, 2 years. Feels like time for some form of update. I'll split this into sections... long post ahoy...

Snappy
Snappy has done various events in the last 2 years and underdone various upgrades and rebuilds.
BBB3, July 2018. 3rd place.

Bugglebots Season 1, Sept 2018. 4th place.

Secret cameo as froggy house robot for bodgebots event

Bugglebots Season 2, April 2019. Dung Beetle winner

BBB Beetle Champs, March 2020, as Super Snappy. Top 8.

Snappy fundamentally looks very similar over this time but has had various upgrades and changes... most of which outlined here

go and watch bugglebots tho it's great here's all snappy's fights from season 1

Mr Cat's Mouse House
had a rebuild in 2019, it was dumb as ever and could actually (hilariously) self right. did terribly at uk beetle champs 2019.

Two-Headed Death Flamingo
it's still a thing.
some fun fights from 2019:

2019 upgrade summary/vlog:

Bish Bash Bosh
New collab feather cluster between us Bristol Bot Builders boys. They're fun.

build/test videos:

okay that's enough i'm not including any ants or other shenanigans, see you in another 2 years

idk here's some updates since late 2020, nick posted a pic of og sir lance-a-frog on discord and i got nostalgic for this place

we built a new flamingo which didn't get into battlebots but who even cares their loss

we're still having fun so it's still happening

snappy got retired cos it's old and sad but it did meet panic attack

mr cat's mouse house got like 2 new versions and is also done for now

bish bash bosh got a mini version that accidentally came third at our own comp

mr cat's mouse mansion became a goose

i got bored and made a tiny beta called bop! which looks cool

see you in 2026
