I want to build a robot but my family has'nt got the money so where can i get very cheap robot parts?
-
Hahahahaha. Close thread.
-
*Don't be too mean to him, MM. :P*
Heh. Do you know how to make circuits or at least have some basic knowledge on binary logic? :D
-
Errr...
No.
My grandad is an expert though.
-
Hmm... fair enough. Don't forget to ask his permission, though. :P
You don't really need to spend much money to build a robot. You can always think out of the box and use common household components. Mythbusters used a simple wok for the shell of the first version of Blendo. And JB also showed here that CD stack casings and soda cans can be made useful. Some of RFS's showcased bots don't really need money. Me and my FRC '09 team also built most of our prototype bot using junk material (we had to fabricate the final bot, though). We just bought flat bars, nuts and bolts from our local shop (CPU, motors, wheels and controllers were provided). A trip to the hardware store should do. :D

Scrapyard=robot part heaven.
or you could go to a hobby store. My first prototype bot is made out of an RC car.
-
Buddy, I did 2+ YEARS of research before I built a robot.
-
Cheap and robot combat don't go together!

6 YEARS!!!!!!!!
Lol
Listen, if you want to make a robot, then you need money.
I mean, 2 small AW motors cost me £39, which is expensive, but the motors are much better than others i had used in my AWs.
Overall my new AW, Little Patience cost me £70, which is rather expenisive.
Trust me, if your thinking of becoming a roboteer, then money shouldnt be a worry.
-
Use Tigre outrunner motors. They are fast, cheap, and easy to mount.

Cheap and robot combat don't go together!
If you read any other post in this thread you would know that they easily could.
-
Depends on where you go cheap on. Armor, wheels, weapons, and motors you could go cheap on if you were crafty. But all electronics is some thing you should never go cheap on. Ever.
-
Remember always expect everything to be 2 to 3 times the cost of the robot you originally planned.
-
It actually is possible to build a good bot inexpensively., I think there was a SHW made completely out of lumber and recycled materials called "Bobbing for French Fries" or something like that that was built really cheap and actually won some fights.
On a side note, does anyone know where one could get cheap RC equipment? I don't need any at the moment but it's good to know.
-
The biggest problem with using house hold parts or parts out of a junkyard is that they are not nearly as good or reliable as something you buy off of robot marketplace. I would say for drive motors buy 2 cheap drills and use the motors out of them.
-
hobbypartz.com 5 dolla servos!
-
Here's a good place to look:
http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=166
There's lost of parts, some free, and if you've got the money, some whole robots in wroking condition.
If anyone has 900 pounds lying around, Iron Awe is for sale; the version that flipped out Bigger Brother.
-
Thats the robot that changed the course of RW series 7!!!111!!!(I was rooting for BB).
-
Looks like Wham already got first dibs.
-
S.M.I.D.S.Y is for sale for 500 pounds! Boy I wish I lived in the uk!
-
=D
I'll be saving up...
-
Bah, I'm building my own.
Btw, theres one on ebay for those in the US.
-

I wouldn't say that; Wham's only offering to pay 200 pounds, but the owner won't budge past 600.
-
Can I see a link please?
-
Does anyone know a good place online for weapons (not motors)?
-
You can use household items.
-
Looking back at all your comments, heres whats happened on FRA:
Iron Awe still hasent been sold (I two was rooting for BB in that fight) and i no longer have £200
SMIDSY was sold some time back and went to new owners
Mostly all robots have been sold.
Sorry guys!
-
Lets just say my house hold objects are not damaging against decently armoured opponents.
-
hmmm a spoon against a custom waterjeted titanium eggbeater... sorry spoon, it looks like the only thing you will beat is cereal.
-
101 cost 1 pound and 1 penny to build!
And it got to the series 3 semi finals!
R1885... Cheap and robot building DO go together!

Come on now, you don't really believe he built that robot from scratch for less than the cost of a candybar, do you? He just scavenged most of the parts from Robodoc, his old bot, which incidentally, cost him 1000 pounds.
-
I am at home now and have some links to parts and such.

A UK flea weight maybe.
-
With motors like that, COID can be a reality.
-
So true.
-
Still,It would suck.
-
The scrapyard cause that's where i would get my parts if i were to build a bot.
-
best make antweight first cheap and once you start entering it it will make it more likely for your mum and dad to make HW, LW ect

If you're in America I have no idea but there is a five channel 2.4gz set called the Planet 5 or something like that for sale in the UK for a low price.
