Title: What do I need/cost?
Post by: RammingSpeed on March 11, 2012, 05:26:10 PM
What exactly would I need to build an antweight, and how much would it cost?

Don't use servos for drive, or you will be driven around in circles by faster robots. I recomend Finger Tec gold spark motors, and the tiny ESC. Works well for me(Though I get a pound of weight to work with).

I'm English, so anything that I need to get from the US of A is out of the question.

servos are an ok option for drive in a uk antweight but you can spend more money to use gearmotors but you need an esc for those but they are alot faster and stronger
Title: Re: What do I need/cost?
Post by: RammingSpeed on March 12, 2012, 12:46:26 PM
Looks like I'll be buying servos, the price of gearmotors is more than I'm willing to pay for a motor.

what? 5 quid a motor?
Title: Re: What do I need/cost?
Post by: RammingSpeed on March 12, 2012, 12:58:31 PM
Really? I typed in gearmotor on eBay and it came up with motors about £70 a pop! Are they bigger ones?

Right, I for one am going to disagree with both of you :P

I've tried these motors, and, they're "alright", but don't have as much torque as the not-so-cheapo versions. These are probably alright for a spinner, but for something that really needs the torque, especially pushers, I wouldn't reccommend them.

I would advise the following:

Would 4wd be a bit overkill?

Would 4wd be a bit overkill?
I think not because Vertigo made 4wd antweight robot.

Absolutely not, and the sabretooth can easily handle it.
