I may have missed it being mentioned, but weapon heads shaped like the spinner bars would be great, that, or upping the damage the bars themselves can do.
-
Yeah, that would be great.
-
The bar right now isnt bad if used right. I have a hammer bot that uses them and its not that bad.
-
don't we already have spinner bars that do significant damage?
-
No, the DSL bars fall off in like 4 hits.
-
The HP and damage of the DSL bars are both upped significantly over previous settings in DSL 2.0. Your bot still benefits greatly from having weapon heads on the ends, but bare bars can actually be weapons now.
I sense a disguised way to show off your bot. I will say that that thing looks very impressive. Professional stuff there. Has it competed yet?
-
it's first competition is Robolympics 2006.
There's one problem left to fix, then it will be ready.
-
Wait, that's your bot? Very nice! :D
-
OMG BUHUU WHAAA WTF BRB ZOMG!!!!!!
I wanna build a robot too and fight it in real life!!!
But I can't because here in Finland aren't any robot competitions. I move to America or Great-Britain. DAMIT!!!!
-
OMG!!! Thank you.
-
Well I decided not to join it because I don't have enough skills to build a robot.

Nonsense. Just about anyone can build a bot. When I started building Defy Ant, the most complicated construction project I had ever attempted was a light organ in my high school electronics class. It took so long for me to make the box (a folded piece of aluminum sheet metal with a few holes cut in it) that I didn't finish it before summer.
Of course, Defy Ant hasn't won a fight yet, but that's beside the point... I did get it built (with the most advanced machining tool used being a band saw), and I had fun.
-
I started a bot with old spare RC motorers and a gut RC car but when I was testing the weapon (a vertical kinitic disk) its fell off and distoryed everything and broke my hand. I havnt had time to start rebuilding.
-
You don't need skills to build a bot, just patience.
Ruiner is the payoff of 5 years of work. I started seriously researching and learning during 8th grade. I've got through 4ish designs, and have at least one that I completely scrapped after getting it 80% done.
The current version has been in the works for over a year. One of the major delays was the chassis, as I was having trouble finding a welder.
If you can afford the parts, and use the tools(or find someone that can), you can build a bot.
-
Okay. Maybe I'll start doing something when the summerholiday comes. And that isn't far away.
And quess what. I will make my Spike Beetle to be real.   I have already found a disc for the spikes. But it aluminium so I think it is quite hard to weld. I have to find out what kind of machine is capable to weld it.

*looks at my Volkswagon sitting in the garage, thinking about what weight class it would be in with some manipulator arms and a coupla chainsaws on the font* Nahhh........

I don't have skills or patience...and I still build bots (they suck though).
Ruiner looks real spiffy Mike. Can't wait to see it compete (someone better take videos.
-
Looks like somebody has.

That is one mean machine.
Also, thread moved to real robotics. It's kind of becoming the catch-all real robot thread.
Edit: Just noticed the thread already in RR. How did I miss that? Oh well, another link to that cool video can't hurt.

Just found this forum, even thought I have played DSL v1.2 almost every day.. 8)
Well I decided not to join it because I don't have enough skills to build a robot.
Bit late here, but I´am finnish roboteer and I have built something like 10 bots, but only few have competed. And when I started building, I knew.. well, nothing about building bots, but still I have won 3 events. And in fact my simple wedgebot, XIII (http://koti.mbnet.fi/zest/robo/XIII_final.jpg), won the first event I took part. Nowadays I can even build destructive bots like >this< (http://www.robosota.fi/index.php?sivu=robotit&robo_id=110&toiminto=robotti) (125mm 90g sawblade @ 8-13krpm) even thought I started from zero. :D
Building real robot isn´t that hard, just join our forum and we´ll happily help you. :)
