Team Ignition (AW FireArrow is a go!)
« on: November 27, 2010, 05:30:45 PM »
OK, After several years of dreaming and planning this is it, I finally have an ant in the works. The link to the build will be here shortly.

Team history:

2010-Reptillian Robotics (no bots built, one antweight planned)
2011-early 2012 Team Ninja Force (no bots built, one ant planned)
late 2012-??? Team Ignition (out of planning stage, buying parts ASAP)

Talk to Zip and join a real robotics forum. I'm no help. Smallest thing I've built is 30 times heavier than what you want to build.

Planning to make an AW wedge/thwack called The Anole. I wanted to use this as a start:

What do you guys think?

Don't get it. That gearbox is crappy, the radio system is outdated, the wheels are heavy, and I don't like sabertooth speed controlers.

Also don't build a thwack bot you'd be better off with a wedge without the thwack ability. (more weight for thicker wedge)

I can tell you the Laser 75MHz radio is bad. You want to get a 2.4GHZ radio http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-SPM5500.html and a compatible receiver. They hop frequencies and are mostly glitch free. Unlike the standard 75MHz.

I don't know what are good drive motors for antweights but this might  be able to help http://www.architeuthis-dux.org/torquecalc.asp
Just find the motor you want to use on the list fill it out and see if it meets your requirements.

Good luck with creating your robot.  I bet it would look great when finished.

you know those kits are overpriced IMO

follow Zip's AW part suggestions and you will come out at half the cost

Just did all the calculations, if I can get some chassis and armor materials free from my dad, an AW VS will cost me only $163.73 USD. Thanks guys.

bump

Planning to build one or two ants over the summer, maybe a fairy too. Depends on how much cash I have in my bank account (should be around $400 now, got the account last year)

You might get one ant out of $400 if you are frugal with your money. A radio/receiver  and ESC combo for an ant will run you around around $130 alone.
