I'm getting a job for the summer at a machine shop, and I want to spend the money on a robot. I don't know what weight class to choose, but I don't want it to be insect-weight. I'm hoping to pick a weight class with a lot of competitors, and note that I'm on the US side of robots. What class should I choose?

With the end of Robogames/Combots, the only west coast competition left is Western Allied Robots in Washington.
Most of robot combat has moved to the eastern US.

There was also an event in southern california for 1lb, 3lb and 12lb robots put on by Smash Botz
