Just found about swarmbots today. Pretty interesting stuff... Might be worth a read for you tech-heads and open source nuts.
The video is amusing to watch. Kinda reminds me of that zombie infection time-lapse map thing that was circulating the interwebs a while back.

Ah... Saw something like this on the Science Channel. However the bots were much bigger, but a similar concept applied.
A number of Frisbees, of two groups of colors were distributed randomly about an octagonal area. The bots were equipped with a claw to pick the Frisbees up, as well as a sensor to determine the color of said disk. Bots wander randomly until they hit (and pick up) a disk. If the disk is color A, the bot will move forward and then drop it. If color B, the bot will carry it until it hits another disk. This programing, given enough time, will sort the Frisbees into two groups by color.
