Budget Robot Parts
« on: February 28, 2010, 08:36:32 PM »
Most likely the cheapest prices you'll find, anywhere. Just starting up, but expect to see much more appear over the next few weeks. Most of the parts there are perfect for antweights, which is one of the best weight classes to start with. If there is something you'd like to see stocked, you can send me an email and I'll do my best to find it.

I dunno what average prices for parts like that are, but they're low anyway! (heck, a movie ticket where I live is like 12 bucks!) If I had permission (dunno if parents would buy it), know-how and time I would TOTALLY build an AW and buy parts from your site!

Sugestions for website.

Include motor RPM motor torque rating in product description. With many builders they will not buy off brand or unmarked of what brand it is parts. When we buy parts we want to know "who makes em".

I sugest you stock "lite flight" wheels they are good wheels for ants and beatles. I would also stock RC gear. Specktrum BR 6000 recievers and DX 5 or DX 6 spread spectrum transmitters from Specktrum. I suggest you stock parts from Demsion Enginering. They make good insect weight bot parts and some are useful in heavier weight classes. Finaly I think you could sell Carbon Fiber sheets to construct the bots with or for armor.

Good luck getting this business going

Ooh, good tip. I'll get on that. Most of the brands are non-existant, I'm buying most of this stuff before it's even labeled, and the parts that -do- have the labels on them are such off brands it's not worth listing. The motor RPM is there (That's what kv is), the torque I'll see about getting.

Thanks!

Edit:
Yeah, seeing what I can do about stocking colsons (or equivalent) and lite flites (or equivilent). Also spoke been speakign with Banebots, will likely stock their motors and wheels. Not sure if it'll be a better price, but it'll at least be a little more convenient to only shop at one e-store. Still working on finding more suppliers.

Can't get info on torque from the manufacturer, but you can guesstimate the torque based on the size of the stator (take a few mm off the overall diameter) and the number winds (if the kv/rpm is low, it has a lot of winds), you can also get a good idea if you consider the amps, size, and kv of the motor. I expect that these motors are comparable within about 10% of an axi, but don't quote me on that. And with this sport, an extra 10% isn't really a big deal, when you can simply just increase the size of the motor or give it more volts. I used one of these offbrand motors myself as a weapon motor in my 12 lb robot. It worked betetr than the same size axi, for me. And to the best of my knowledge, the kv and stator size were very similar.

- With the offbrand motor
- With the axi (Trouble spinning up)
