Why I hate Chomp:
1. Like Mortis and Obwalden Overlord, they just think that state-of-the-art technology is just going to breeze them through to win the championship (ex. It has an automatic sensor inside it that fires the axe when a robot is in range of the weapon).
2. PRIMARY WEAPON (aka The Disk O' Inferno lost to Chomp despite dominating because its flywheel stalled).
That's all I can think of right now. What other reasons are there to hate Chomp in your opinion?
-
Because Chomping your mouth can make you bite your tounge.
-
I don't know who agrees with the first one?!?! But the reason I hate chomp is because it's a sh**ty, barely functional battlebot. It turns over every time it hits its weapon and has the highest center of gravity I've ever seen in a battlebot. But the reason I hate it the most is because it was put through twice over two robots that clearly beat it. Disco inferno pushed it around and turned it over multiple times but because chomp's useless ****ing weapon hit it twice they got the win. then the same thing happened when bite force lost to it. It's just a sh**ty robot that made it farther than it should have because of whatever reason

Welp, it's not actually one of the reasons why I hate Chomp (I'm not a misogynist), Reddit users said that's one of the reasons why they hate Chomp. Oopsies.

Chomp poisoned our water supply, burned our crops, and delivered a plague unto our houses!!

Chomp actually had a good hammer.
Yes, the Disco Inferno decision was debatable, against Capt and Bite Force, percision hits disabled the weapons. This allows Chomp to control much of the fight.

I wouldn't say "controlled" the fight. Actually Chomp only got a few hits on The Disk O' Inferno, meanwhile The Disk O' Inferno kept on overturning Chomp with its lifter throughout the match.

Why I hate Chomp:
1. The captain of the team is a woman
I'm not a misogynist
Okay, chief.
Anyway, I really liked Chomp. Sweet pneumatic system, cool looking weapon, but the magnets didn't work. Chomp is cool, I hope Zoe can improve it and come back with it.
-
Chomp is a beautiful piece of engineering. I just wish they'd make the wheelbase wider and put the hammer system between the wheel motors instead of on top.

I swear, I edited that out right when you posted, I'm definitely not the brightest guy on earth but that was just dumb of me to do that.

I forgot to say that they should make the ground clearance just a little shorter.
-
Yeah I'm watching this thread closely. A thread built on unnecessary hate never ends well.
Clearance I'd say is fine.
-
If Chomp had some kind of wedge or dustpan at the front, it would be anchored to the target by the target, which is a good thing to have in a hammer. Also way less complicated than electromagnets, just saying.
-
I'd say it's because it had an undeserving win in one match, then everyone just held a grudge over its head when it defeated Shrederator and Bite Force fair and square.
I think it won its first match because Disco's flipper didn't count as a primary weapon.
The same happened with Mega Tento vs Stinger.
Whatever the case is, Chomp's getting nerfed next year.
I'd personally nerf it by making control the 2 points on the score card instead of aggression.

Agreed.

Thank god someone agrees with me on this

TBH I kinda liked Chomp's Season 1 appearance, even if it did crap. The Season 2 version is way too unstable - it needs to be flatter and wider - but it's amusing in a dumb kind of way to watch it fling itself all over the arena like a mad thing. It may not have deserved its win over Disc-O-Inferno (for which I think we should hate the judging criteria rather than Chomp), but it deserved its win against Bite Force after that precision hit.
-
Chomp is a beautiful robot. It's a marvel of engineering (Scroll down through the photos of their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ChompTheBattleBot/) for proof of that). It's no small feat to make a 360 degree pneumatic hammer and they did that with aplomb. Pop the hood and you see that everything about that robot is beautifully designed. People seem to forget that people much more qualified than yourselves (or myself, for that matter) awarded Chomp the founders award (https://www.facebook.com/ChompTheBattleBot/photos/a.368421900020263.1073741828.368402293355557/537739713088480/?type=3&theater) this season, so it has to be doing something right. In the teams own words, it is awarded for "bringing an exemplary bot that does interesting things and pushes the sport in the direction in which the founders hope BattleBots will grow". It's one of the few robots that has implemented autonomous features successfully (case in point that hit on Biteforce) and there's not an ounce of excess weight on it. Basically it's CAD porn.
Unless you can come forward with evidence that they somehow influenced the judges decision outside of the fight, saying that you hate the robot based on a handful of decisions that people other than them made, is petty. The Disk'O/Chomp call was representative of the poor scoring system and that is something I hope changes for next season, but that is not related to Chomp. The (Incredibly flawed) judging criteria of season 2 and Chomp are two separate discussions and I wish people would stop mixing them.
So, to answer this threads main question, why do I hate it? Simple, that combination of green and yellow on the side, awful.

Welp this thread is a thing sooooooooooo....
I kinda hate/love Chomp as its a great concept that works and is a meh bot BUT Chomp isn't good the driver's are as Zoe managed to stop Bite Forces s*** in seconds so its your choice :)

Wasn't the hit that crippled Biteforce's weapon triggered by the autonomous system?

Maybe maybe not it could have been both

Oh that's quite cool so why are we hating on CHOMP
-
I dunno, i thought chomp deserved to win AWS43. Wasn't robot simulator 2014 vs Fandabydozy the controversial judges decision???

*claps* well done mate well done
-
It just tips over too easy lol
-
They got screwed by the lack of magnetic floor, they'd been depending on it to absorb the recoil from their hammer
-
I don't hate Chomp, I just hate the scoring system for allowing Chomp to win its controversial matches.
-
IMO I think a significant portion of Chomp hate in general does stem either from misogyny (not implicating anyone here) or saltiness that DoI didn't win or get a wildcard. I can see at first glance why someone could consider it a sub-par bot, seeing as it ends up flopping like a fish half the time and its sole means of self-righting look really flimsy (I'm honestly surprised it took until Yeti to get one of those wings knocked off). The only issue I personally have with anything Chomp-related is that the loser of Chomp v. DoI should have gotten a wildcard slot regardless of who won (and I do honestly believe that fight could have gone either way had PRIMARY WEAPON not been such a huge factor).
-
MISOHJUHKNEE
-
Ugh, this thread and another I've posted have turned into absolute chaos, now everyone hates me here and on Discord. I.G.U. on this.
-
We have different definitions of chaos.
-
I thought Chomp was a really cool bot that was targeted by angry people on the internet instead of the new judging criteria

Gonna disagree with that. DoI's weapon died after a single hit and only got a few lifts in. The producers didn't want a box on wheels with a broken spinner, so they made the decision to not give it a wildcard.
-
It kept falling over. Been said here before but if they made it wider and moved things to between the wheels instead of on top of them, it would probably be a lot better to control and use that auto trigger weapon, have a lower CoG, and not fall over so much. Winning the fights it won would have been fine if it hadn't been on its side for large parts of them.
