would that work?

You know I would but the only sticker I put on my bots is my teams one - I think extra stickers ruin Hunter's devilish good looks :P
Also Vert, sorry I couldnt go maidstone, first it was i was going to a ju-jitsu ko-budo (weapons training, nunchucks, katanas, ect.) Then when my dad couldnt do it i asked if i could go - turns out none of our robots are ready because we wasnt going to go because we had other plans  :FFFUUU
So instead i ended up going to my cousins birthday meal.
I am really annoyed.
Hopefully I can do more events next year, and hopefully i'll have 3 finished FWs and 2 AWs to fight aswell :)

When you say "On the gadget show" do you mean:
A) it'll have a significant portion dedicated to it.
B) It will be a 5 second fly by in the inevitable 2 minute "The Gadget Show Live was great" section?

I'm guessing the latter.
Title: Re: Robo Challenge - FW UK Championships @ The Gadget Show Live, Birmingham NEC
Post by: Vertigo on April 02, 2011, 12:49:13 PM
There will be a whole show on the gadget show live, and we are one of the main features of it

But TBH, I'm not too sure, but I think there will be atleast 10 mins of robots on the show

Even if its just building an AW, its a very good place to start (thats how we started)
Saying that, some feathers can be quite simple to build

I've already bought a couple of drill motors and some robochallenge wheels and started playing with them. So technically it's started :P. Part of me had this crazy idea to butcher some hanging basket brackets from wilkos to make sides for this bot. It's coming together, just very, very slowly.

You'd probably be testing an automatic Kilt Washer of some sort  :trollface :

And you'll be testing a multi-functional Scone Maker. :P
As long as it has an extra attachment for Clotted Cream Tea, I'm good. What goes around comes around I guess

My older bro's friend has tickets and asked my older bro to go. He tried to buy a ticket for me so that we could all go together but they had sold out. D: *Jealous* :P

I think you should have kept the rusty look on Annihilation, personally. But good luck to you anyway. =] Hopefully you'll do fairly well.

Its not a flipper, just a hardox box
Has a "flappy wedge" though (like an axle wedge in RA2)

Side question:

How big is Annihilation and what's with that funky rear end? I'm just a little curious because I was able to cram two 18v drillmotors and a 2ah nimh battery into a 11x6" chasis.

Also good luck.

^Should give you a fair idea of how crammed it is :P^

Roughly 40cm wide, 20cm long and 10cm high, but that is roughly

And why is the rear end funky?

Or at least a deeper pit, like they used to have. Come to think of it, I think RR hates pits- it's very small and shallow, and even when a robot through some miracle goes in, Major Damage takes them out again immediately afterwards.

If they want hazards, they could have the crappy ones from the first series of Robot Wars. Tank traps, corkscrew lances, things like that.

The roaming robots arena is fine, any extra hazards means a lot of extra construction, which takes long enough as it is

Why don't you go the whole hog and put a BIG RED BUTTON sticker on the chassis?    ;)

i rofl'd  ;)

Anyways, well done vertigo, and why don't you use those square stickers and put something like this on them:

G T M
Www.Gametechmods.com (http://Www.Gametechmods.com)

would that work?
(and yes, i'm bored of that "i am the bubbleman blahblahblah" crap.)
i'm going to get some custom stickers printed after christmas and i'll get some gtm ones done, if anyone wants any I could send them some when I get them done

Yeah, just noticed, your draw is pretty awful .

Not 100% pleased with what I've got, but I'll give it a go (been drawn up against the 1st & 3rd seed)
Title: Re: RoboChallenge - FW UK Championships 2012 - The Gadget Show Live

My draws:
Johnny 2x4 v Reavenger v Mini Mighty Mouse
Ripoff v Johnny 2x4 v LS4 (Good lord.)
Wedgie v Johnny 2x4 v TS2

Match 1 i'm confident will be a good match regardless of who wins.
After match 2 Johnny 2x4 will be going home in a bin bag though, i'm pretty sure of it. :P
Also what is Ripoff? Haven't heard the name before. I'm hoping it's made out of Balsa wood so Ls4 goes for that first.

Post by: Vertigo on March 11, 2012, 10:46:05 AM
Ohhh, that's yours?

Great to see you getting involved

And Ripoff is being built by Team Toon (Tiny Toon), out of the original Rip shell from Robot Wars, hence the name :P

Post by: Conraaa on March 11, 2012, 05:58:03 PM
...so it's not made from balsa wood? :P
And yep, that's me. Pretty sure i'm screwed, but should be fun none the less. I'm trying to find some metal I can screw to the front or something for Ls4 so I can make it to the 3rd match!

I can't see hiding in the pit as a good idea...   :P

Rubber Sandwich Mounts (http://www.mcmaster.com/#vibration-damping-sandwich-mounts/=gmvblp) + hunk of 1/8" Steel and you could totally go 3 min with a spinner like LS4...

Even if you have to run with thinner armor in other places to add something like that I see it as worth it.

Rubber sandwich mounts? That's not a bad idea SKBT. I'm going to have to look into that.
Failing that I'll run straight at Ripoff and hope it flips me oota before any real damage happens. :P

Another option would be to wrap the bot with car tires or thick rubber. If you get a long continuous strip covering the front and sides it should help a fair bit. Just make sure to keep the edges of the rubber away from the weapon so it can't get a really good bite and pull the whole thing off.

Best of luck to Vertigo who is qualifying tommorow w/ Explosion. Have to admit, you seem to have some nice draws for the first round. Just don't get too battered, I want to face you in the whiteboards on the Saturday!

Post by: Vertigo on May 12, 2012, 05:29:26 PM
Update to this thread, and it's even better because I can moderate it now :P

Anyways, Guildford in a few weeks time. There's also Edinburgh a week before that, but due to the fact that it isn't a 'full' event and the fact that a lot of people can't go, I'm skipping it. FYI, you can now view all upcoming UK events on the frontpage of http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/ (http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/)

So we'll be at Guildford (again), last full event in Eruption's first year! Can't believe how quickly time flies. Pretty gutted that we can't go to Edinburgh, falls horribly in the middle of Maths GCSE's. Still there's an upcoming event in MANCHESTER, a holy 20 minutes from my house, and one in Leeds, and quite a few booked past September and *potentially* the UK champs over the summer. Gonna be a busy few months :P

Not that it's ever any different...

Just wondering, is anyone going to the Robots Live in Deeside on October 20th-21st?
I literally live down the road from there, and yesterday, i was coming out (as i go to karate there) and saw a stand with UFO on it, nearly screamed with joy, and hauled dad in from the car to see it.
We might also be making a featherweight to participate (and also get free entry :P).

Course we do, I personally would love to see a wooden robot in my qualifier :P

I can't think of many people that would dislike a certain robot because it wasn't up to a certain standard, we need all the robots/roboteers we can get! One thing to note is that your robot went home working and many others didn't.

Maybe it was just from the little spinner boys after LS4 didn't spin so much after our match :P

I like to think I bested it. I hope this time I can beat Little Hitter 4 by it running out of gas and LF3 by it running into the pit.

Dantomkia should be at Barnsley this year (again), but I've still got a lot of work to do. It's just a shell at present!!! (Should be working in time to be battered again)

I really want to fight Haz's HW...

Are the RW House Robots (Sgt. Bash and Matilda) actually the ones we remember from TV? Or are they just reconstructed replicas? They seem to be higher off the chassis than the original House Robots.

Only matilda still runs and that is a replica IIRC, the only other house robot RW have is Major Damage which is a Mr.Psycho style bot with flamethrower on the claw.

Who here is going to the Robots Live European Championships?

It’s taking place at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, Norfolk (the home for Thermidor II).

Saturday: 15:00 & 18:00
Sunday: 13:00 & 16:00

At the event you can expect to see robots from Robot Wars and all over Europe, the new house robot Goliath, boxing robots and Skeletron from Technogames. Even though I’m only going to the Saturday events I’ve got the feeling it’s going to be great!

The Dutch turn up with Gravity and tomahawk at events occasionally. so I'm guessing they'll be going since I haven't seen the signups.

The Whitley bay event finished a few hours ago. I Only saw one fight, and got to drive a battle rat.
Eruption vs Toon Raider: never happened. Unfortunately eruption did not work so instead a new robot which many of us thought was a bot that literally only had came that day with no previous experiance or name and simply was known as S due to it saying S on the flipper.
"S" vs Toon Raider
As soon as the match got under way S came out strongly flipping over Toon Raider. However Toon took full control and literrally flung him into the side, and unfortunately S got stuck with it's flipper ending up useless to get him back up. However S does show potential.

Tony and Jamie might not be bringing the usual army of featherweights so numbers could be down a bit.
