Microsoft built a Battlebot at some point or something
« on: August 30, 2012, 03:15:47 PM »
I'm not sure if I should make a thread for this in the IRL robotics section or not, so I'll just put it here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/features/2005/jun05/06-07BattleBot.aspx
looks like another fine example of people with no experience focusing more on petty high end crap than actually making a robot capable of being competitive. I reeeeally want to see this thing fight Last Rights.

What's great is that they totally could have made that thing invertible, but they had to give it that gigantic roll cage to cover all of the internals...and treads, lol@people using treads.

There are a number of weight divisions, from a half-dozen ounces on up to 200 pounds-plus. The reigning champ in the heavyweight division is a bot called BioHazard. But I think I can take him. My two 24-volt batteries push my weight up to 120 pounds, so the weigh-in should be no problem. And I’m in great shape — 45 inches long including my lifter arm, 24 inches wide, 16 inches high

So he wants to face Biohazard, while being half the weight of his opponent and having an awful ground clearance around most of his sides? Oh and if he gets under Biohazard's skirt, he still can't lift him due to it being about as strong as me.

Yeah but he cost more than bio... and moar money = better robbot amirite?

It also looks like one of these but with a lot of crap bolted to it...

I'd also be willing to bet my 30 could beat it.

I'll be honest, you would be able to beat it. Just ram  the spike into the treads until they snap, and try not to get run over. Hell I'm sure getting run over wouldn't even harm you in any way.

They also missed one large factor in the cool=good robotics laws. They forgot to paint flames on it to make it faster and cover it in diamond plate to make it stronger. Diamond plate has diamond in the name so its really strong right?

You where right about it being built off of one of those treaded platforms. The team was assisted by the guy who built El Diablo. Guess what robotics platform manufacturing company that guy also works for?

Hm... do you think that, once I finish Battlewagon, I should take these guys on or something?
