Mantis (6lb) weight class events
« on: July 23, 2014, 12:49:17 PM »
I've was following the recent BotBlast event, and it seems the number of mantisweight entrants has increased compared to last year. I would be interested in building a mantis class robot, but I'm a bit concerned about the lack of interest relative to other more popular (ant, beetle, feather) weight classes.

I know that the mantis class has been around a while. I remember seeing them fight at the now-defunct BattleBeach event in Florida (back in '06). Does anyone know if this weight class is getting more support these days? The closest events to me are BotBlast, Moto, and Franklin.

Pretty sure Bot Blast is really the only event that runs Mantis at the present moment. I don't think the details of the October MIT competition have come out yet but they might run them, there's at least a possibility.

edit: Forgot Mecha Mayhem has mantis as well. If you were to register one you'd be the second one, too.
