Robogames was taped for a TV series that will be called Killer Robots and will be airing on The Discovery/Science channel on Memorial Day weekend. I'd post more info like a website but this is all I know.

Is it a robotic combat show.

Perhaps this will re spark the robot building craze once more, though how much of it will be combat I don't know, RoboGames has a ton of other events like sumo and ROBO-1.

Well it's called KILLER Robots so, I'm guessing it's about Robot Combat.

No, we can forget them and substitute Carlo berthochini and Gage cachois.
You seem to have forgotten that Killerhurtz actually came Second in the Long Beach 1999 Battlebots, also picking up the "Best Driver" award at one point ;)
Also Mortis- they picked up the "Most Aggressive Robot" award at one point, Razer won a Gigabot Rumble, and Little Sister/Bigger Brother won another Rumble.
-
Darn, I wish Jim came with Nightmare instead of Breaker Box.
-
Darn, I wish Jim came with Nightmare instead of Breaker Box.
Why? Breaker Box did better in one tournament than NightMare did in its lifetime.
-
Nightmare can cause tons of destrution.
-
To itself.
-
Nightmare is...........dead, so to speak.
-
Well we got Ziggy in place of Biohazard
-
Except that Supers dead, no SHW class at the last Robogames.
-
Well we got Ziggy in place of Biohazard
No. That will never account. How dare you say that.
-
2 hours left! Or at least in my timezone.
-

I didn't mean that, I meant he's the same bot type

-
HEHEHEE.....you lost!
-
lol, Sewer Snake cheat won
-
Thankfully, they'll be replaying the show at midnight.
Also, already seen the finals with Sewer Snake and Last Rites. Not surprised that Sewer Snake won.
-
I was pulling for it, even tho he changed to a plow blade.
The fire is useless.
-
HEHEHEE.....you lost!
:O :O :O :O :O!!!!
At first, we were like, "Oh no, he's not spinning!" Then he started spinning and tearing up Sewer Snake....then he made some OUTTA NOWHERE comeback.....man....
-
Just watched it with my dad. Bet him $1 over the final and I won! I really hope that this leads to some big things for bot building shows. It's been too long.

Yeah, like Battlebots or some other new robot show coming on tv?

Maybe ITunes will have it soon.
Man that was great. Only complaints.... Bounty Hunter's lack of airtime and that this isn't going to be a weekly series. :P

someone might have recorded it *cough*
also Last Rights vs Original Sin was nuts.
-
Grant was screaming during that fight lol. Anyways I would've like to see the other weight classes, prelimbs, and the other half of the first round elimination. They could've easily made this a weekly show. Do you think anyone will expand on this or will it be an annual show?
-
I watched the whole episode and it kinda left me half-satisfied. Don't get me wrong, it's great so see something like this on TV again and I'm glad that there's still an interest in the sport. It was also nice to see some of the familiar faces from BattleBots. The problem I had was with the format of the show. They didn't show enough of the robots. A lot of the show (like many other similar discovery/science/history channel shows nowadays) focused less on what was going on and more of the drama surrounding it. For instance, the show kept cutting to the crowd, drivers, and Grant over and over again during the fights. I just wanted to watch the fight, not the faces the crowd made while it was going on. Another problem I had was how rushed it was. They had to fit an entire series plus in-depth behind-the-scenes moments with all the teams. Fights were skipped and three minute long matches were trimmed down to thirty seconds.
All in all, and despite some of the criticisms I have, I really hope this show takes off. I could tell the entire thing was done on a restricting budget. That being said, they did a good job of presenting the show. If the show takes off, they get more money and some time slots to occupy. With these resources they could probably follow in the footsteps of BattleBots more closely. But heck, even if the show takes off and the format doesn't change I'll still watch it just because I get to see a little bit of my childhood again.
tl;dr - I liked the show and how they're reintroducing the mainstream public to robot combat, but the format needs a little work.
-
Just a heads-up... All of the cut fights are on science channel's website. There are 8 fights on here and IIRC none of them we'd in the show.
-
I lol'd at something: one bot's name is Mini Fridge and another's name is Avalanche!
-
If you really want to laugh, watch this-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJvsWvaTr4w# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJvsWvaTr4w#)
Then realize that the team that built Preda Raptor built "Inflictor" aka Tripulta Raptor.
-
I like DxTer, Son of Ziggy and the one built by the team that made Disector.

As well as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Carnage, and Pack Raptor(s). The Pitzer's are fairly well known, indeed.

My point was more that they lost both fights they've had with a hammer wielding mini-fridge.

Sorry, just realized it... dang.
-
You gotta watch out for those hammer wielding mini-fridges! :P
-
Darn, Sewer Snake won. Im also said that this isnt a series. But we can wait for next year. But one thing. They didnt show all the fights. Like the ones with Breaker Box. You know where I can watch those.
-
Sciencechannel.com

Sciencechannel.com
You can also find some of them on YouTube. That's where I seen Breaker Box vs. Sewer Snake and the finals before they arrived on Science Channel's website.
-
meh it was OK
Also I loved Vera vs Touro, that was just insane.
Also kinda upset about the outcome of Avalanche vs Great Pumpkin, and Ragin' Scotsman was a pretty cool bot to see in the semis, even though 3/4 were pusher bots.
-
As much as I love Grant Imahara's face. We didn't need to see it all of the time.
-

Ha. That made me laugh.

Here's how the tourney actually went.
According to team run amok's page. (http://members.toast.net/joerger/robotica.html) They just took the best bits and made a tournament which never happened.
I thought there was something fishy as soon as I saw loser's bracket matches on their website.
...Huh.
-
I know you all hate me. But heres the show without comercials for people who couldnt see it. Take care.

-
Thanks for posting that - I didn't catch it on the Science Channel.
I have to agree with the crowd that Grant was completely unnecessary, they already have a guy commentating, and it just seemed redundant to have him saying more or less the same things the emcee was.
-
LOL what was with the guys in the skirts?
-
I watched it on TV and in person. :P
-
I take back all the horrible things I said about you qwerty. :gawe:
And wow... while I do agree with the consensus that the show was 70% filler and 30% robot combat, that 30% of robot combat was reeeeeeeeealy nice.
It has been ages since I have seen bot matches with nice television production values. Slow-mo, sparks, replays, wow wow wow. I would love to know if the science channel got good ratings out of that show to convince the executives to explore future killer robots installments.
Worth the watch in my opinion. The final battle had me cheering at my computer screen. Excellent stuff!
-
LOL what was with the guys in the skirts?
...They're called kilts?
-
That's a relief  . I do agree that the shots of grant during the match were quite pointless. I mean, we can hear him. We don't need to see him! Well, its better than no robot show right?
-
OMG GOD DAMIT YOUR BACK
-
Yes I am :trollface . But i've changed! *I hope the like the new me* Either way. I just came here to post that vid. I say some apreciation, so i thought i'd stay for a bit.
-
hopefully you aren't a noob anymore
-
Looks like he is changing. As long as he does not act like Hard Bot, GarvintheGreat or Hypnodisk2010 he should be fine.
-
DP. There are three videos avalible on iTunes in the podcast Discovery Science, they are two web exclusive fights and a video featuring the most deadly parts on the show. They are for free btw
-
Can't believe Sewer Snake performs so well in the US, it came to the UK once and got completely trashed :P
-
is there a video of that?
