Title: FOUND: Robot Combat show in korea
Post by: qwertythe300th on July 26, 2014, 02:44:21 PM
I was surprised when someone told me there was a show similar to Robot Wars in South Korea. Initially I expected those weird Humanoid fetish robots doing karate or some shenanigans like that, but looking up on YT and navigating through the pornography; I found it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rNcMd2cnCI (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rNcMd2cnCI)

Robot Power. This show had a surprising range of robots that fought (around 20+) And even have some weird house robot. They do a Trial (kind of based around Stock Car from series 1) As round 1, Then 2 Fights in round 2. Every now and then they throw in those wierd Fetish bots for whatevers. But it seems pretty cool. The arena is like a mix of Battlebots and Robot Wars

SKBT would love this show.

Edit: Just saw the House Robot, loving how it would get absolutely raped by most things on Robot Wars.

Thanks!

Apparently it ran on a popular South Korean channel in the mornings (The guy who showed me lived in South Korea). It went 2 Seasons long from 2008-2009. Around this time we were hype for Battlebots coming back, When a new robot combat show was here the whole time  :gawe:

EDIT: RFS, you should legit write a review on this show. I love your writings (like the one on Killer Robots) So it'd probably be halarious

There's a really unique Last Rites-esque spinner in this video at around 4:20 -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxbw51qrONE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxbw51qrONE)

Has some oddly cambered wheels and scoots around. It doesn't WIN, but it's neat looking.

There's one or two decent designs, particularly here with the Little Drummer Boy clone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the information on the website seems to say 75kg weight limit on competitor robots.... What weight class would that be? Middlishbutalittlebitheavybutnotbymuchweight class?

Every other country who has any knowledge of robot combat in that fashion seems to take into account the same standards as the rest of the world. The Dutch, the Germans, the Australian, the Italians and the Caribbean all take the national weight classes into account, it does seem odd that the Koreans are trying to be so different.

If your wondering how I know about the Caribbean's, I've got family in Trinidad. Mind they did get Robot Wars Extreme Warriors on TV!

My apologies if my post sounds somewhat negative, it's more inconclusive if anything. Just wondering how genuinely though out this is or if the Korean's have done another cheap copy of something European, like their clothes industry.

I can't figure out how the knockout tournament works.  The hexagon robot finished last in Stock Car but didn't get eliminated. Also, REX2 is painted red later in the episode for some reason.

Its this.

Fastest bot auto goes to fight finals

2nd fastest takes on slowest
3rd takes on 4th.

Winner of those go to fight eachother

winer of that takes on fastest bot

I like how there seems to be no restrictions on weight! Odd. Strange that a Korean team never took part in the us or UK.

Easterners tend to look past weight being an issue. Thinking that the speed and agility a lighter bot brings to the table is enough to trump something larger and more powerful, easterners see agility and speed as the key to victory, idk why but it's the same for Japanese and even Chinese. Not necessarily on robot combat alone. But in other sports as well. (Chinese boxing/Kung fu, I remembered Japan's PRIDE had at some point just allowed any weight to fight each other and there's a video of a 154lb guy taking on a 300 pound sumo wrestler).

Also, how many of these bots do you guys think actually weigh 65+?

Also there's a 2010 season and a 2011 season in addition to this first one

Most robots seem to be around 30 kg according to the final match profiles instead of the 75kg max. Perhaps they meant 75 pounds? Still an odd weight limit.

There's so much stuff on the screen... and all the roboteers have to wear shiny motocross pads...
Plus there's more sound effects than a 5 year old with adhd using a soundboard.

It's a pretty cool find. And it's fairly recent, which is a little hopeful.
